*'Kenneth' because he wrote the Swedish lyrics to mostly Ted's original music. Has anybody here heard of Polar Music's dark horse and the 1979 Swedish representative of Eurovision Song Contest, Ted Gärdestad? (1956-1997)  I listened to his music a few weeks ago and he really is an underrated artist; and I do mean underrated because his music (also known as Not YouTube!), even on Spotify, is not available in the USA... First impression of the Ted? He sounds like a passable Freddie Mercury voice doppelgänger. Second impression? Still sounds like the same way to me, but with his own styling of course in a great way 🙂 Here are a few selections of Ted's songs to get the thread started (Good luck getting that out of your head) |

He is one of my favourite ABBA-related artists. This song is one of those produced by Benny and it strongly reminds me of ABBA's style, especially the backing vocals:

I remember when i was younger I didn't like Ted's music very much, but when i listened to some of his songs in early 2016 I really liked them.  Some of my favorites are Sattelit, Klöversnoa, Hela världen runt, Låt kärleken slå rot, Come Give Me Love, and Snurra Du Min Värld. |

Meanwhile... Universal released Gärdestad's first posthumous album "Signerat Peter Nordahl" (of course, it's Ted with the new orchestra, stripped from the original vocal tracks of Ted and the other vocalists, I believe. That's awesome! ABBA should do something like this if Benny and Björn were more open minded with any kind of ideas like this) back in May 2017 and I didn't realize it until now. The orchestration is very great, that it shivers down your spines... Adam Pålsson's soundtrack for Ted: Show Me Love is out and streaming, for the Brits/Americans and Svensks, to hear his interpretation of Gärdestad's songs
But the movie didn't come to America yet... Judging by the soundtracks, he will be an awesome Ted in the movie.
I think Ted's voice has a bit more attack than Adam's and very out there. But Adam's voice is more smooth and refined.
But they got the instrumentals nailed down to the tee, without ever sounding like a replica, but catering to today's tastes in rock music.
For those who can't Spotify, here's one of the songs from the soundtracks, and Ted's own, just to compare between Adam and Ted :-)

I'm gonna keep my eye on this for a good month. An English subtitle of the movie is better than a horrible English dub. Whoops; disappointed that there aren't any. I will follow the plot by its visual as usual. The Blu-Ray looks like a total STEAL anyday.. I hope Amazon or any other retail store will offer it as an import to the American markets. |

Well; just seen the Ted Gärdestad movie for a good while. It was a very tearjerking movie that left me in awe. This is what I consider a "guy cry" bio-movie. It is almost impossible to be left without tears. As opposed to Gärdestad's breakthrough song, which implies that tears do not fit an ideal man. 1. Hannes Holm did a great job combining archive footage (e.g. Gärdestad is under the influence of cult leader Rajneesh and he is no longer being called Ted anymore while being interviewed on TV) with Palsson's acting. 2. Angelina Håkansson as Anni-Frid Lyngstad's hair did not change too much (not too worried about it since it's all about Ted, hehe) 3. Despite the movie being branded as an adaptation from Ted's career (excuse my mistranslation), I was shocked when I saw that Ted did not really care about international fame and wanted to stay in Sweden "for love's sake"... 4. I don't really think the director cared too much about the look of the studio since the prop looked the same; comparing his first recording and his last visit to the studio, the only difference was that the timpani moved to another different point. And there isn't a blueish sound insulation (see first photo in first page of this thread) that indicates that Ted was at another studio like Polar Music Studio. 5. Especially in the Eurovision segment; the scene where Ted was screwed up, hallucinating with his "glam rock" suit (eventually scrapping it in favor of his down-to-earth clothes later) was intense and I never slept for several days.
However, I will still give loves and praises to Hannes and Ted's brother Kenneth for crafting the side of Ted Gärdestad we had not seen before, and not overdramatize the Ted in the style of soap opera, like Delta Goodrem with Olivia Newton-John and Matthew Pearson with Benny Andersson ("Lady, dinner is served"). But more like a Christopher Nolan kind of feel (without all of the special effects.) for a movie about Ted, which I also admire.. while retaining the Swedish sentimental feeling.  |

Liebezeit, I finally have the DVD too and I have to agree the movie is great. Unfortunately I wasnt't able to finish it yet (as I watched it together with my wife, who understands no Swedish and has a limited knowledge of English, so watching a movie in Swedish with English subtitles required some explanations from me now and then , thus it took longer than expected). I was very surprised to learn that Ted was invited to join ABBA on their 1977 tour as an opening act. I've never ever seen the information anywhere before and I wonder if it really is correct. If it is, than it was a wasted opportunity, especially when you consider his reasons and the way the things finally evolved (got divorced anyway). The scene from the Eurovision song contest really is intense and after I checked the video of the real thing and found out he indeed wore that old jumper during the performance and looked like he'd actually taken Valium before, it left me even more shocked. "Benny" looks the best and most "real" out of the four ABBA members. "Stikkan" is very authentic. What made me a bit confused in the beginning was that the 15-year old Ted looks the same as his older-self in the movie. They might have chosen a different actor for the first part of the movie. Also I would not be able to tell that the two brothers are eight years apart age-wise.

Yesterday we watched the remainder of the film. It is indeed very moving. I couldn't quite imagine how they would deal with the suicide and it was done very tenderly. I think I'll soon watch it again alone and in one go to let the feelings go deeper.
