in the UK today it has been announced that ABBA among other celebrities have been recognised , by the giving of a blue plaque,
( for those who do not know what that means, here in the UK famous people are recognised for a particular achievement, whether it's music, literature, science etc, and usually where they lived or in ABBA's case won world wide recognition, they erect a blue plaque in their honour)
so as of today the Brighton Dome where they won Eurovision is to be given this honour of a Blue Plaque, quite an achievement when you consider all the other famous people, like Churchill, Dickens, etc...

The BBC web article led with a pic of ABBA, but in the text it stated that 'Alfie Boe will be the only living recipient' The line has been removed from the BBC article now, but lots of other websites still make the claim, as a Google search for "Boe will be the only living" demonstrates. Not sure if this is the reason for the error, but looking at the list of notable honourees on the BBC page, it may be that strictly speaking the Brighton Dome is being commemorated for its part in the ABBA story, rather than ABBA itself. ...it may be that strictly speaking the Brighton Dome is being commemorated for its part in the ABBA story, rather than ABBA itself. It looks to me as if it's the group that's being honoured. Their not being counted among the living reminds me of the scene in Spinal Tap where the band is thrilled at hearing their gig being plugged on the local radio station, only to hear the DJ say "and that was the latest entry in our 'where are they now? series'"...

Bigger version so one of the people here can look closely for references and make an SVG version of this plaque. (Font: Gill Sans, like every British signs...)
