If Summer Night City was to be put in the original track listing for Voulez-Vous, where would you put it?

I'm not fussed as long as it's at the expense of DYMK, my least favourite ABBA song of them all

It's got to go somewhere where you get decent value from that opening 'Bam!'
I'd probably re-order the whole album anyway - and I certainly would if SNC was on it, as that would make it a higher-energy collection (assuming we're not dropping the title track - because then the album wouldn't be VV!). If I had to slot it into the existing running order and drop something to make way for it, I'd stick it at the end of old Side 1 instead of TKHLHC. I think Angeleyes would tee it up quite nicely. And you'd still keep the energy up at the start of Side 2 with DYMK.
Tempted to say start the album with it, though. But that would mean dropping AGAS, which would be a kind of heresy.

Just get rid of I Have A Dream. I don't know why it's on there anyway. Oh, yes I do- to have 'variety'. This approach I feel was a mistake. I can see why they did it: to please the mums and dads and grannies. But the album would be more cohesive without the dirgy ballad.
Failing that, in place of Does Your Mother Know. I've never really been keen.
As much as I actually like Two For The Price Of One these days (it has really grown on me), that's another one that is misplaced on and otherwise near perfect album.
Still, what the hell do I know? It's their work and they knew best.

I like the idea of Summer Night City being the first track on the album, particularly if it was the full-length version with that sublime intro and then the 'Bam'! But As Good As New serves well as an opener too. And I always thought that Voulez-Vous itself would work as the opening track. The first few lines of the lyrics sound right as an opener, to my mind. Even Does Your Mother Know could start the album. Spoilt for choice really.
I have contradictory thoughts about the Voulez-Vous album. Overall, I don't think the songs are quite as good as those on Arrival or The Album, and I think the running order of the tracks could be improved. But it's still one of ABBA's best, and contains some of my favourite songs (Chiquitita, If It Wasn't For The Nights, Kisses Of Fire, Angeleyes and As Good As New).

Hindsight is wonderful... I toyed around with the idea or reconfiguring Voulez-Vous a long time ago and came up with this track listing: A) As Good As New Does Your Mother Know Angeleyes The King Has Lost His Crown Kisses Of Fire Lovers (Live A Little Longer) B) Summer Night City Voulez-Vous If It Wasn't For The Nights Lovelight I Have A Dream
I left out "Chiquitita" but added the 1978 outtakes SNC and "Lovelight". "Chiquitita" could have been left as a UNICEF benefit release and it did appear on 'Greatest Hits Vol.2' six months later anyway.
AGAN and DYMK would work really well as a kind of medley. DYMK would start "in sync" over the end echo of AGAN.
The two ballads "Chiquitita" and IHAD do stand out like sore thumbs in the upbeat/disco album. I would still keep IHAD, at least it's not quite as schmalzy as "Chiquitita" and works better as the album closer (a bit like "Way Old Friend Do" on 'Super Trouper').
As VV was a 'disco' album, I would have made extended versions of the singles and obviously released 12" singles alongside the 7". The promotional remix of the title track is quite unexciting, I'm sure a better one could have been made. The single release of "If It..." was quite far along the way before "Chiquitita" overtook it. Quite many mix attempts were made already in 1978 for the track and obviously a great 12" mix could have been made of this track as well.
There wasn't much incentive for fans to buy the DYMK/"Kisses" single, since both tracks were already available on the album. I would have replaced "Kisses" with "If It" and used there the unreleased single mix. The 12" would have had extended versions of DYMK and "If It", perhaps even the discarded early version of DYMK.
