THE JAPANESE 'ABBA 40/40' DOUBLE ALBUM - NOW TO BE GLOBAL???

In 2014, Universal asked Japanese ABBA Fans to Vote on which ABBA Songs should be on a Japanese Double Album - '40/40 - The Best Selection'. Unfortunately, 'The Day Before You Came' was not given enough Votes to be included. (I hated 'The Day Before You Came' in 1982, but now I love it). Anyhow, the UK Amazon Site is now saying that it is to be released in the UK on Wednesday December 6th. If it is true, I do hope for 2 things. It is too expensive, for a start - £41.99. (The Carpenters '40/40' Album is sold for less than £9 & Amazon sell the 51 Track Triple Queen CD, ('The Platinum Collection') for just £12.99. So, the ABBA '40/40' Set is very over-priced. Secondly, it really must have 'The Day Before You Came' on it. It is easy to choose which Track to 'dump' - 'She's My Kind Of Girl'. It is not very good, & it is not even a true ABBA Track. It has no place on '40/40'. The Japanese only Voted for it because it sold 500,000 there as a Single.....It is a 1970 Benny & Bjorn Single, with no Agnetha & Frida on it, & it was a 1972 Hit in Japan. It ought not to be on any ABBA Album. It was ridiculous that it was included on the 'B' Sides Disk of the '40th Anniversary' ABBA Gold, that was released in 2014. OK, it was the 'B' Side of the English Language version of 'Ring Ring' in Sweden, but it is still not an ABBA Track & there are plenty of ABBA 'B' Sides that should have replaced it - proper ABBA Tracks. (Amazon are selling that 59 Track, 3 CD 'ABBA Gold' for £21.99 - so the 40 Track '40/40' CD should not be selling for £41.99 - if it is to be released in the UK etc.). TO TIE IN WITH THE LONDON EXHIBITION? Is '40/40' being released in the UK on Wednesday 6th December, to tie in with the opening of the London 'ABBA Exhibition' on Thursday 14th December?

I've always been fascinated with SMH-CDs (though I've never collected them), but if ABBA 40/40 had to be released outside Japan, they should have picked Blu-Ray audio CDs (High Fidelity Pure Audio)!

My first thought was ... what's the point!! It's got to sell for around £10 to sell any copies at all.. so that looks unlikely.. could also spoil any MM2 release as ^^^ would have most of the tracks on, so why would ' we ' bother.......again... what are they playing at.... or or am I just being a miserable so and so...

Graham - No, you are not being miserable. '40/40' may not be released. Amazon may have made a mistake. Maybe the 2014 Japanese Edition is being re-issued - in Japan?
Perhaps Amazon have put it down as a UK release, when they mean that it will be Imported from Japan? Which would explain the very high price of nearly £42. You can't release an ABBA Double CD in the UK & expect it to sell, at that price. Even Triple CD's are less money than that!
We will see what December brings. I have been wondering if Universal would try to cash in on the December 14th opening of the ABBA Exhibition, in London.
I assumed that they'd just start re-advertising 'Gold' & 'More Gold' again. It never crossed my mind that they'd release '40/40' in the UK - and certainly not at £40+!!!
I do hope that Amazon have got it wrong & it is not going to be a UK release. It has a good Track List, but if too many ABBA related Records come out before 'Mamma Mia! 2', it could cause any plans to promote ABBA, on the back of the Film, to get very confusing, & if the 'General Public' gets confused, all kinds of messes can arise.....
I wish that something other than the 19 ABBA Songs on 'Gold' could reach the UK Top 10! 'Gold' is the only UK Top 10 ABBA Album since 'The Singles', in late 1982/early 1983!
So, none of their other Songs have been in the UK Top 10, since 'The Singles' left the Top 10, in early 1983 - 34 Years ago!
This is why most 'younger' people - people under about 40! - only know the 19 ABBA Songs on 'Gold'. Nothing else has sold anywhere near as much, since 'The Singles' was in the Top 10!
I find it very sad, that many people under 40, only know what is on 'ABBA Gold'.
Of course, 'Mamma Mia! 2' will give Millions the chance to hear ABBA Songs, that they will either not know at all, or only vaguely know.....

It now looks like the December release of '40/40 - The Best Selection' is just going to be released in Japan.
Apparently it is just a lower priced Japanese re-issue of the Double 2014 CD.
So it is not getting an International release after all.
As the 40 Track Set does not have 'The Day Before You Came' on it, it is a flawed release anyhow.
Especially as 'She's My Kind Of Girl' is on it, when that is a 1969 recording, by just Benny & Bjorn, that was a Japanese Hit in 1972. It is not really an ABBA Track. Neither Agnetha nor Frida are on it. Even though ABBA put it on the 'Ring Ring' Album, it is not an ABBA Song really.

Wrong topic, abbagnet. This is the ABBA 40/40 Japanese thread. We have an ABBA the Album 40th Anniversary thread at the New Releases category posted by The Rubber Ball Man (alexbury1)
