Just wondering if Abba would have cracked the (UK) sooner had Honey honey been follow up to Waterloo given that Sweet dreams had a hit with it in the Uk? Had that been so they may have shaken off the Eurovision tag sooner and had greater success with I do x5.?Strange I dox5 was a sizeable hit in the USA but not (UK).

I guess it depends what you mean by 'cracked'. I reckon not releasing 'Honey Honey' themselves was another bullet dodged. It may well have charted but that taste of follow-up success may well have tempted them into following more of a bubblegum-pop route. We'd probably have ended up with more IDox5's and fewer KMKYs. As things stand, IDox5 sticks out like a bit of a sore thumb in the ABBA catalogue - and personally I'm happy that's the case! ABBA could easily have taken the wrong fork in the road in 1974/75 and piled down a saccharine cul-de-sac.
