Apologies , I couldn’t find the thread I’d initially put the following facts in, or just gave up.. Due to no real news at present, mainly speculation,...
A little update for those who find it of an interest..
Gold in the UK, after the first 3 months, Gold has sold in the region of 4-4500 k steadily each week, has not been outside of the top 20 best selling albums and has reached a high of 10 ( twice ) .
Therefore at present it has sold 56k plus and is currently the 10th biggest selling album for 2023.
Just to link it in with Voyage, probably the show , Gold is unlikely to be withdrawn anytime soon, so any new compilation including Voyage tracks is going to have to be something special for the record companies to produce, release..as really not worth it as sales numbers are so low.. Voyage sells Gold and vice versa...

^^^ Your right Johnny, that would’ve been a perfect ending, alas the UK is unlikely to win, plus the UK only held the ESC by default in 1974....Luxemburg had won in 1973 and assume couldn’t afford to stage it , so UK stepped in..... I’m guessing there would be a higher chance of ABBA performing in Sweden anyhow... it’s a long shot.. unlikely...but hey you never know..... we have guessed on many things like a new album !!!
So a new song? ..as long as it’s not Thankyou For The Music..lol....

A anthology would be nice, but realistically it would have to be priced competitively, I’m not paying £100 plus for something I have many times in various guises, that’s just me of course, so it’s going to a big ask for me to part with money, it would have to be something new or finished off to make it worth while, and as awful as it sounds all the tracks end up on you tube....so again a £10-£20 cd/ vinyl of new music would work...
Let’s be honest , there’s not to many of us fans left out there, only 600 plus so called on here and only 20 or so post, so no great numbers , sales would be very small unless there is something new, so will the record companies go to great expense for a few 1000...
So a finished CD of new or put aside complete tracks please...
As cliche as it sounds and I had mentioned before, If Sweden win Eurovision and hosting in 2024 wouldn’t it be a fitting finale and a huge coup , for ABBA to be the interval act and say goodbye then ...full circle......

Full circle ?
If the odds are to be believed, and fickle fate deals its hand, Then Sweden is red hot Favourite to win ESC..
So that would mean the ESC 2024 would be held in Sweden.. exactly 50 years after a little known group that we all now love won, wouldn’t that be a great coincidence..
Hey, we could speculate forever and a day on a ABBA appearance in the final... now that would be a fitting finale.....

^^Joe , I hope there’s more than 5 of us that post regularly, at least 10..lol.. it’s a shame so few of us post, a sign of the times I guess, we may have a up surge next year breaking that 20 posters ?
Enough of that, I have had a thought and realise that I don’t deviate much from that Pop/ Ballad genre... Soft rock comes about as radical as it gets, Tina Turner esq...It’s not that I don’t listen to other types, but I seem to default if playing a CD for instance.. Recently I’m trying to appreciate “ today’s “ music without to much success, I like the current Flowers by Myley Cyrus..but as Colin once said a lot of today’s music is beige and instantly forgettable or is it just my age,

^^^ Yes The UK has upped their game, it’s a top 10 finish, ( I doubt the UK would want to hold ESC again next year )

Over the years I’ve tried picking the winner, not my favourite, with pretty bad results..unless it was obvious..
At the moment it’s looking like Sweden and Loreen with Tattoo, I forced myself..lol, to listen to the whole track, and yes it’s very good and can understand the hype, the issue she has is that she hasn’t won the Swedish qualification yet surely a formality ?
With very few tracks to be confirmed, including the UK, can anyone beat her...
Tickets for the final sold out in 36 minutes yesterday and within hours the touts had them for sale for £9000.. disgusting... I believe, that has been stopped now, but more fool you if you bought them, ring side seat... TV I’m afraid. I’d love to go, but even at normal price of £380 is pushing it.. that’s nearly 4 times seeing Voyage...

^^ I agree, Australia would be good for a few months, 6 at the most really; and probably in Sydney; but I can’t see them going to that expense for such a small time, so Asia wise that’s going to be tough, Singapore was touted, but hey China has the population, but all in all they weren’t that popular in Asia, Japan adore technology....
North America, alas is has to be Las Vegas, on the tacky side but it’s such a huge entertainment venue......
Europe probably the hardest, but somewhere central, like Munich, In Germany, Austria and Switzerland have big fan bases as well. You can forget Belgium , Netherlands and even Ireland all massive fans but far to close to London...
It’ll be interesting, I have a feeling it will happen sooner than we think......

Thought it about time to start this thread, how many are interested is another story? I guess we only ever mention it because of that event in 1974... that said personally I’ve always had an interest...
Favourite by a long way is Sweden; yet again, and they haven’t even had their own final to choose their representative, this year there’s a huge amount of hype as run away favourite is previous winner Loreen ( Euphoria) with her track Tattoo...
From what I’ve heard so far , 20 countries have chosen , UK not one of them, it’s not a great year... so far....

Ironically, I’ve never been able to get those figures from HOH onwards either....

FYI for those that are interested ..Gold stats so far for 2023.. UK official album charts...
Positions....13,10,11,13,15,13,15,10,13...
Selling just over on average 4000 sales each week, so year to date is approximately 36-40k
Not bad considering, at this rate it’s heading to over 200k for the year...realistically 150k plus...
Weeks at number 1-8 Top 10 weeks-76 top 20 weeks-195 top40 weeks-451 total weeks in the UK top 100 - 1086 the most ever by any album.
So carrying on from various threads of what’s to come, why on earth would they release another compilation, it would be lucky to sell 50k, no money in that for the label...

Post by foreverfan on Feb 21, 2023 15:16:32 GMT
God knows what they can release that would please everyone, the label, the fans, the general public, themselves... nothing really comes to mind that would be a big success. Another compilation with those two added tracks, it wouldn’t sell very well, so no return for the label, after all it’s not going to be another Voyage, most albums sell under 50,000 to get to number one, some considerably less, here in the UK, so no great revenue there, and it cant be full of the old classics and a couple from voyage, the fans have them all... two single releases won’t do much, as for themselves , who knows....
So it may be a no win for everyone, of course a compilation of rarities would go down well with the fans , especially , love or hate JLT featured, but would it encourage the casual fan.. doubt it , unless promoted as a new studio album of rarities...but would it really please ......with some tracks , decades old !
Alas, it may be another compilation, which just a few thousand will buy, mainly “ us” if it includes those two tracks....but not many others....
Tend to agree 2023 may be quiet. A possible set change be in the show, but not much else and one final hurrah in 2024...
We wait.....

What do you really think ? I’m guessing the vast majority of us on here are hoping / wishing for more....
I’ve just been playing around on you tube and came across various clips of ABBA ( Voyage ) in the studio, I’m beginning to wonder why they bothered? There appears to be no programme on how Voyage was created; Album and show... The show part I can understand more as it’s still ongoing, but the album ? It just seems such a shame that there is so much material out there and none of it will be even in a 30 minute programme...
Have they missed the boat, or was it never going to happen, or is there still a possibility that we may get something...
1 year anniversary for the show looms but the 1 year album has well and truly passed....

Perhaps a little known fact....
A UK comedian had a minor hit with Come To Me I’m Woman, made 71 on. The charts for 5 weeks back in September 1985.... so perhaps Frida missed an opportunity ? Su went on to have a UK number 2 and final hit with Starting Together...
Not saying she had a great voice but she had a hit......

^^^ There are Johnny, very few of course and a long way ahead; a wet Wednesday in January 2024... block K row N... truthfully. Otherwise anytime this spring, we’ll over £100. I’d go again, but over £100 is pushing it for me second time round... I know I’m of a older generation where £100 was a lot of money, these days it’s a meal out; so slightly difficult to get my head around ....

^^^^ there’s been quite a few recently, some prime time; Guessing it’s just the usual promotions, dead time of year for most shows, but from what I can see Voyage is doing well, out of curiosity I looked for £21 tickets yesterday and had to go very late into 2023, saw some in January 2024....otherwise your looking at a good £100 plus....
I also guess the promo is to do with the up coming 1 year anniversary, albeit a little early..... will there be that set change?

Good to hear from you again Colin.
It would be interesting to know official up to date sales for all those tracks that qualify, so many conflicting figures out there, for instance we have never had sales for those late 82 singles...it’s been reported that KMKY and ST have sold over a million, but nothing official, and quite a few are close or so they say...... I guess it depends on your interpretation of sales ? And whether the data is out there to be had....... a good guess would be good ?

Alas no big surprise regarding the Grammys.. I guess what gets me is that I understand regarding today’s music and artists, even though ABBA are still up there, is the fact that the Grammys and even more so The Brits have never really honoured them, a small tribute at the Brits years ago doesn’t really cut it.. surely Abba deserve some recognition, even a “ Legacy “ award would acknowledge all they have done, but nothing is a scandal really....
Again, the gains they have got for Voyage in the US will fizzle out almost immediately, as always love to be proved wrong but realistically those gains will instantly disappear...
I read recently, that MMM is gaining a lot of plays on some platform, probably Tik Tok ... but gains are quite big......
Ironic since not in the show......

Over the past few days there has been advertising on prime time TV, down south anyhow. Great little clip about 15-20 seconds, but shows the show off well....
What does it mean if anything, numbers down ? Or just promotion......
Do you think it’s a show that could transfer to screen ? Obviously not for many a year.. but it does look good on TV.....
Also read a few days ago.. Voyage on approx 463.720 sales.... numbers must be minimal now....couple of 100 a week......

Your right Johnny, it is a Greatest Hits Show, with a few others added, In reality it’s no different from any other artists GH tour, I’d imagine Madonna s GH Tour will be the same with a couple of less well known tracks thrown in for good measure... The inclusion of the two Voyage tracks, well you could argue they were Hits anyhow, TV and HIYS weren’t here in the UK, so from a marketing point of view , the whole show is spot on for the general public, to appeal to a wider market.. imagine what it would be like if we had our own fan way !!

Joesph.... just let it go......
Personally, luckily I have a good imagination, so it wasn’t difficult to believe everything in front of me was real (being honest, in the back of your mind you know it isn’t).. but just suspend belief , and take in the spectacle, emotion and everything that goes with it..... I remember having wet eyes, not sobbing, lump in the throat and a smile/ grin for the whole show, it is amazing...
Nobody will notice if you have a tear or two, everyone is wrapped up in what’s in front of them, I honestly wouldn’t have known if Agnetha was in the seat beside me..lol
Waiting for set change and I’ll go again....

FYI for those that are interested, To the end of January 2023 Gold has sold 17.200 and is the current 12th best selling album of the year. On average, it has sold above 4000 plus per week , which is slightly above its 2022 average.
It’s a sad state of the UK album charts even the number one album has sold less than 40.000....Taylor Swifts Midnight..
of course no sign of Voyage......

Ok, I think “we” can say in general no other act compares to ABBA, some got close and some so far away, but many were of the same genre. Steps were and did some great tracks, One For Sorrow being one of them, yes they may well be all in a similar vein, and perhaps they didn’t evolve the way ABBA did, they stuck to their own formula, and very successful they were to fact they have just celebrated 25 years together and last year had another number 1 Album, albeit another Greatest Hits, Others, must include, whether we like or not , Boney M very successful and one of UKs best selling singles ever intact 2, Rivers of Babylon and Mary’s Boy Child, their success was relatively short, but similar genre.also number 1 albums... Brotherhood of Man , a marmite group, did they copy , of course they did and got 3 number ones off the back of it in the singles chart, any good albums eluded them, think they didn’t trouble the top end .... Bucks Fizz, 3 UK number ones, top 10 albums, and still going strong, albeit under a new name The Fizz Others , THe Nolan’s, The Dooleys, many more I guess that all fall into that ABBA genre, they werent alone in the type of music that appealed, even the likes of Erasure in the 80s touched on those catchy MOR tracks albeit 80 synth. So although unique in so many ways, all the above had a certain theme and some were far more successful than others.

One of my favourite if not my favourite photo of Agnetha... Who could resist not liking this... amazing...... Still a great album, a little dated very 80s pop but contains one of my all time Abba related tracks...... Wrap Your Arms Around Me...
A number one hit in Belgium, alas only 44 in the UK...

It’s not that I dislike it, and it’s from my point of view only, it was a disappointment, I was one of the fans that really wanted a Christmas track, ( look at the very early posts on Voyage, before release and knew what we were getting, ) So the fact that it’s not a up tempo boppy little ditty is my issue, I feel if it had been what I wanted, being a little selfish here, we would have a hit every year, just like the “ classic” Christmas hits, Wham, Mariah etc , love them or hate them, both have been number one again here in the UK, a fantastic feat considering the age of each track. Little Things had that potential, but alas falls short for the UK public, and alas myself.
As stated by many if it had been a stand alone single it may have done better, if we are talking charts , but I still feel it would not have cracked the top 40, so it’s a matter of preference really, Christmas is a marmite time , most drive me up the wall ! so my disappointment stems from it not being what I wanted, totally selfish, but we all have preferences. The track it’s self is pretty harmless and fits in the vein for me of those middling Abba tracks that you listen to infrequently, and alas it’s going to be around Christmas.
You may have been lucky, in hearing it on the radio, but for myself , nothing, and I listen to around 6 hours a day........
