3rd promo single has been announced.. it's One Of Us..
so far neither GGG or SOS has made the UK official singles charts, the album will do better, but singles as stated before no longer work for older chart acts, that could include ABBA...
the charts , for older acts to chart here in the UK , need to be changed, which is unlikely...

^^^ personally , that's correct.. anything that did not make the top 50/75 is not a hit. technically it can be years between and 10s of singles/albums released but not charting, and therefore those that did chart are considered chart consecutive hits.

^^ As per usual many anomalies to wade through what's right and what's not. its getting harder and harder to compare chart facts of yesteryear and today.
It may be an age thing but I'm so disillusioned with the singles charts I hardly look any more , at least the albums have some normality.
That said, ABBA at number one again, we will see....

with the potential that ABBA may get 10 albums and 10/11 singles as always time will tell,
but id love to see them over take Frankie Laines 32 weeks at number one, in the UK singles chart ..they have missed out on that 1/2 weeks since 1980...they are currently on 31 weeks, but a long way off 44 weeks by the shadows who currently lie in 4th place, but you never know they could top number one for 14 weeks unlikely but not impossible....
That all said they may well probably slip back again as Justin Bieder and Drake are both currently on 30 weeks at the top.

Colin, you may know...
if it wasnt for the 3 track rule here in the UK. How many of the tracks would've made the top 75/100 ?
How many have they sold ?
Gold over 5,500,000 yet ?

Ying and Yang...life in balance or the thought of it..as actually nothing really balances for long..^^^^ yes a 3rd film would be a mistake, even I agree to that , and I like the films . yes on reflection, the films might have been better, different songs used, your never going to please everyone, but like I've said before I'm glad they exist, what's the alternative , obscurity, years of longing and nothing happening, this way we had something to talk about and has kept them going for 40 years, and us interested or not, even though they murdered Kisses Of Fire, and I had such great hopes that that would've been the track everyone raved about.. but no.. so yes I can moan. It's hard to imagine the two films never exsisting and the joy it brought to millions, yes millions, do we really begrudge that... Still each to our own and there's nothing wrong with opposing thoughts and there will be no winner amongst fans, but on the wider world, how many more have been exposed to the phenomenon that is ABBA.... Time will pass and they will fade, but hopefully not in my lifetime...😀

UK mid week Charts
MM2 is back at number 1 The rest are holding there own, not much movement.
The singles are down, and Mamma Mia is now out of the top 75.
Still no Cher for either GGG or S.O.S

With the relative failure of GGG not making the official UK singles chart, SOS has now been released on YouTube, Personally as much as I like her voice, the track is purely a cover version without much deviance, nothing to get to excited about. Beginning to think To much ABBA around..... did I actually say that Cher is getting lost...

It's got people talking.... Spoiers ahead....Don't read if you want to have something spoilt forever.... ok I will not listen to it for the very reason If do notice it I will notice it forever and ruin a very good track. Personally I hate it when someone points these things out , as curiosity gets the better of you and there you have it , a ear worm that will always be there.. For example ( and I won't ruin it for anyone else) Chiquitita will now always be associated with a food item , because of some idiot on the radio thought t sounded as such, therefore ruined song. Many tracks from other artists have suffered the same fate, probably one of the most famous is ( sorry to Police fans) So Lonely, which now will always be associated with Sue Lawley , here in the UK. Therefore , cleaver as it might be to find these anomalies, personally I'd rather not know and politely a spoiler warning should have been given.. I do understand the thought behind it all and no offence is given. Full marks though for starting a discussion again, it has been quiet in here and with quite a lot going on as well...🙄

^^^^^
I agree to a few of your points,
I guess the main issue I have is that these ' other ' charts may exist and various albums / singles are doing or have done better in those, it's still the fact that only the Official Singles and Albums chart count.
we may know for instance Gold has 850 top 100 weeks but only 572 weeks actually count and get in the " record facts and stats books etc " ( for those that care and interested in chart facts ) . So it seems that all the facts aren't reality or dont count, even many chart fans don't look any further than the official top 75. ( which for years now I can't understand why not a top 100 ? ).
Reality dictates that MM2 isn't as successful, for whatever reason and I agree that there are to many of the same tracks albeit slightly different versions on the album and may sell less because of it. ( I do see why in the film for marketing reasons, but don't really need to be on the album ) . Kisses of fire , and why was it allowed ? Is virtually destroyed, even on the album, I wonder how many skip that first 30 odd seconds without hearing the full song, sacrilegious. The album may have longevity and may surprise us, The summer still carries on, the film is doing well, to the surprise of many, the DVD release is to come, which will boost sales, so it may get closer to the million than we think.
As with everything time will tell, who thought in 1992 that Gold would still be in the top 20 in 2018.
I guess we can make a chart out of any statistic, but for the time being here in the UK alas only the Top 75 really counts.

UK mid week chart MM2 down to number 2 after 4 weeks at number one. It may change but looking unlikely as about 15,000 behind Ariana Grande and Sweetner. This may be just a blip and return again next week, it's all about staying power, and MM2 may have that over Ariana. we will see. All other albums and singles are dropping, Gold , goes up on last week's mid week's but down on official chart. More Gold makes an appearance at 74, whether it stays is another thing and Gold/ More drops out of the chart altogether. Still no Cher and GGG. 5 minute wonder ?

Could it all be about to change? UK Charts MM2 holds at number one for the 4th week , with fairly strong sales for this day and age. 30,129 sales MM holds at number 7 with 7,312 sales Gold slips to 11 with 5,688 sales Gold/ More falls out of the official top 75 to number 76 Compared to even a few years ago, these sales are small, so in these different times it looks more and more unlikely MM2 will achieve the sales of MM. UK singles When I Kissed The Teacher climbs 6 places to break the top 40 @ 40. With 11, 372 sales Why Did It Have To Be Me climbs 6 places also from 50 to 44 its highest position so far with 10,444 sales Mamma Mia holds at 57 under the 3 track rule surprise surprise after all the hype Cher and Gimme Gimmie Gimmie fails to make even the top 100, not sure what's happened there 🤔

UK mid week's.
MM2 still at number 1, with quite a healthy lead over the rest, so should make it 4 weeks at number 1
MM is at 8
Gold is at 15
Gold/More is at 53
singles...
When I Kissed The Teacher. 41
Why Did It Have To Be Me.46
Mamma Mia.58
3 track rule applies.
as an aside , it does make you wonder in another time, i.e. 1976, the first two tracks could've been massive, if they had been released, know WDIHTBM isn't a fan favourite, I've always liked it 😀Though.

I think I've mentioned more than once that MM2 wouldn't win any Oscars... How wrong could I be.... .. Apparently the Acadamy is opening up a category to the public to vote for, and MM2 is one of the potential favourites so are we going to vote for it if it happens?

^^^^ I have agree with your first comment and wrote so in a previous article I think in this post. Like everyone it's all down to personal taste, there will be some who wish even MM1 let alone MM2 was never made, they have never even seen it, but love to comment , which is their perogative . It's not going to be the same as each other in terms of success, and who really knows the final figures, it's ten years ago since MM1 the whole world has changed in consumption of music and how it's played let alone bought. so personally, I'm glad both films are around, yes neither are going to win an oscar, they are fun, so much of what this crazy world is lacking. Both films for right and possibly wrong reasons bring ABBA back to the public, and more music being played. would I rather neither was here... No. the alternative, none of this hype would be happening all over again and quite probably ABBA would have slowly faded and there would have been no new singles to look forward too. Just a personal point of view of course...

Shame about the 3 track rule, but we can't have one rule for one and not another, secretly though , unlikely to have happened, but 10 plus tracks in the chart...that would've been amazing...
Still we may have by the end of the week , 3 new ABBA tracks in the charts that have never charted before.
It would have been interesting to see where the other tracks would've been if allowed. The biggest surprise I guess is Andante Andante, ahead of My Love My Life and I've Been Waiting For You. The other two tracks I can understand, uptempo and fun.

Ok a little more detail.
Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, jumps from 4 to number 1 here in the UK, with sales of approx 35,000, which by today's standards isn't to bad, it's a different era from the original release of Mamma Mia .
Mamma Mia is at 5, quite remarkable considering it was only allowed into the main charts 8 weeks ago and is 10 years old, it sold approx 10,000
Gold climbs back into the top 10 for the first time since 2008, Again 10 years to land at number 7 with approx 7,000 sales
Gold/More Gold also enters at 48 its highest position to date with sales of approx 1,700
In the budget chart, 18 Hits remains at number 1 with sales of approx 2,000
In total with those albums alone approx 56,000 ABBA related albums sold in the U.K. last week, probablly many more when you take in all other albums and formats.
In the singles chart, which is so much harder to hit than it ever was. we have
When I kissed The Teacher at 91 , its first ever presence in a UK singles chart.
Fernando at 92,
Why Did It Have To Be Me at 98, Again its first ever presence in a U.K. Singles chart.
so Ok not huge sales here, but a presence which is good, what will happen next week, we will see , the initial fanfare is over , it's about staying power now. In the UK I-tunes chart, all singles tracks are down, and all albums apart from MM2 are also down, but it's the weekend and things could change.

I do understand, marketing etc, but why oh why the same old tracks time and time again, my turn to moan...lol 😀
I love her voice and I'm pretty sure she will do a good job, but apart from the mysterious track 10, there's nothing much to get excited about, and track 10 could be a uptempo Fernando, 12 inch disco mix ( for those that remember that far back..lol )
With over a 100 tracks to choose from we get...........

Ok, there's seems to be a lot of negativity,
Yes it might not be as good as the first, I think a lot of that boils down to familiarity, it's not new, what was the alternative, no film at all, no hype in Awarness, just the same old stuff living in hope of the odd track on radio two in the UK.
Yes it won't sell as much, we are in a different era, 10 years later, CD s were prominent then sold by the bucket load and the adage still prevails it was new...now it's all streaming and down loading, I don't know the numbers but very few number ones sell millions anymore, take The Greatest Showman, 21 weeks at number one here in the UK and it's only just sold over a million...
I'm not saying it's a great film, and yes probably ALL of us could have had our penny's worth in improving , but it's here , it will have its moment, it will promote our favourite group all over again. It's all down to personal choice of course, it's a new audience, those kids of ten years ago are now teenagers, so a whole new generation, listening to ABBA, is that such a bad thing...personally no.
Yes it's all a personal point of view, and I get that, but what was the alternative.... Nothing.... No doubt some would have preferred that but I'm glad it's here, even Cher and Fernando, who would have thought 40 plus years later we would be hearing that again....
😀
