At the moment I can’t say I’m to inspired... Chiquitita in Spanish sounds like it could be interesting, but alas not an all time favourite of mine....

I’ve tried being Mr Optimistic throughout all of this, since the announcement, and still believe we will get something, whatever that may be, and yes I believe once that does happen , the vast majority of these negative thoughts will turn positive... I hope.
The main thing I guess for me as well as many others is the frustration in waiting, it’s been said many times, they should never have announced anything until imminent release..This teasing is turning into a back lash for fans, however again I believe the general public, are oblivious until the release, so impact will still be huge, it’s just us few 100s that are getting frustrated..
we carry on waiting...

Even Mr Hopefull here is filling with despair now... only consolation I hang on to is what we haven’t had we can’t miss.. but I’m beginning to think I’m lying to myself now..lol

Oh don’t we all love and want another delay.. 2021... will that mean now no new tracks as the ABBA avatars were meant to-front the new releases, or so we are supposed to believe...
Even my optimism is beginning to wane if there is a further delay past November....

I guess it doesn’t really matter, it’s a would be nice... The only negative, would be the history books..you could see..
”ABBA , we wait 35 years plus for them to return and to flop and fail to make the top 40” or so many similar remarks.. so whether we like it or not, the history books will have the final say on their releases... it would so much better to read “ABBA back where they belong..number 1”
I agree it’s all about loving the music, and if that was the true feeling then why do we still have charts, alas it’s still a measure of success or not, old acts or new acts the goal is to still have a chart hit...
at least it keeps the conversation going depending which which side of the fence you are

If rumours are to be believed.. we have about 16 weeks to that November release..
i certainly hope to be alive...lol
As Colin has pointed out many times, regarding UK singles and charts ( if that’s your thing) it’s going to be tough going to be a hit, Kylie has failed to get a top 100 with her latest, Madonna, also a very low 80s position.. The charts are really rubbish in one respect at the moment, even Ed Sheeran and I Don’t Care, falls foul of it, number one for 8 weeks, falls to number 2 then out of the top 100 because of the the 3 hits rule, now re enters at 3. So is it really representative of the charts, as that track must’ve sold more than other tracks but because of that 3 hit rule not allowed.. something needs to change..
I still hope more than anything , that the potential publicity will propel the track to the top end of the charts, and still think it will sound in the vein of Story Of A Heart.. with added panache of the girls.. but all speculation, we wait counting weeks..

^^^^You have to agree, and we’ll argued.. Kristina for all it’s worth, will unfortunately only ever be big in Scandinavia, the subject is to “narrow” to be of worldwide appeal.
There are many merits to all ABBA related material, but as stated apart from basically Gold and 2films based around it, the boys rightly or wrongly have stuck to there little bit of the world musically and have produced little if nothing new for worldwide appeal for decades...
These museums, restaurants etc are just money making ventures based on Gold really, and there’s nothing wrong with that if it floats your boat, but it doesn’t for many... you could argue pure commercialism... and it is... but nobody is forcing anyone to participate..
Kristina, alas will fade into obscurity, as will all ABBA material in time....

It's interesting to note, when said Writing on the wall...
The Visitors , Album , number One for 3 weeks, At Christmas...
One Of Us , arguably a massive hit, number 3 over Christmas 1981, 500,000 sold approx, literally 2 months later major disaster in HOH. What really happened in those 2 months to make ABBA flop...( obviously we are only speculating)
Wrong release or something else.....

Your thoughts , was 1982 a year of desperation ..
I was thinking, I can understand the release of Head Over Heels, a typical ABBA sound, although I'd preferred The Visitors or When All Is Said And Done, that aside, and its relative failure here in the UK only number 25, and many other counties I believe.. and must have been a huge shock to Epic at the time, and no more track release from the album..
We're the follow up singles regardless of the cult status of one of them now, sheer desperation to get a single out there ?
The Day Before You Came, now possibly a classic, was so far away from the ABBA sound and music of the time it was already doomed before it was released ..why.. surely the record companies must have known the popular mood of the time...
Under Attack, arguably the weakest release , even though made 26 here, in all honesty still not a classic.
Bsides..Cassandra, great little track , but in reality only an album track, I remember the radio stations trying to flip it to the A side when it was obvious TDBYC was going to be a flop... it didn't help... You Owe Me One, ok catchy, but ABBA of old pre 75, felt as though written in 10 minutes..
1983 in UK, Thankyou For The Music.. enough said, released far to late , Just capitalising on the Christmas market..
So were they all release mistakes , desperation to try and keep the momentum going.. or genuine hopes of success...

FYI..
Gold is currently at 38 in the UK charts and rapidly approaching its 900th week in the top 100 Album charts. Also the half yearly charts have been announced and Gold is currently the 28th best selling album in the UK,selling an average of around 2000 copies a week, not bad for an album that's 27 years old.

^^^^^ If you do a top 10/20/100 I'll do one !! There's a challenge... perhaps a top 10 or 20 would be easier, better do it before the new tracks are released.... oh we've plentry of time. months even possibly years ..lol it could be fun to get people interested again, and to be truthful, not that " difficult" to do and everyone would have an opinion...

I'm not great at this technical stuff...however I remember at the time, ( I was a contributor to the top 100) that all data from that forum would be lost, but I also remember someone ( female ) having comprehensive notes on all the top 100 compiled about 50 ? Plus from memory. There were two ways of calculating the overall top 100, one was inverses points, i.e. Number 1, 100 points number 2 , 99 and so on, the other way was based on the Eurovision system, 12 points for 1st 10 from second 8 for 3rd and so on down to 10th place getting 1 point.. Alas I can't remember seeing that member on this site.. it was a great way of seeing and friendly arguement of peoples choices, I remember one being quite controversial, Me and Bobbys Brother being a members number one !!! It was great seeing old and new fans opinions ... Hopefully someone can come up with that data or the name of the member...we lost a lot of great characters when it closed

Alan ^^^^Agree totally regarding IHAD, it's such a strange track, to little bit bubblegum after the previous singles, and personally think it was a "cash in" on those above markets.. not that that is wrong in anyway after all it's a business, and it's up to us the individual to participate in buying the product or not...
Again I have to agree ^Alan^ familiarity does have a tendency to skew perception of certain tracks, ( I'd love to know how many times I've heard for instance DQ compared to HHHelen.. both I really like, but 1000s difference of listenings in both ) .
So I take the arguement regarding IIWFTN, it is still " fresh" in comparison, so our thoughts are equally skewed to thinking it's better..
Alan ^^^ very good case ...
loving this thread, about probably my favourite album...at least it's got some of us talking again....!! 🤔

From reading above, the only worthy single is Angeleyes ? The rest ok?
Wonderful thing that hindsight is, that it gives a better perspective on everything, I like the term " Golden Era" but in all reality it was exceptional, very few artists get to be that good for so long. Personally I still feel 79 was a continuation of that Golden era, albeit depending on what you call success. 6 top 5 singles is not what you would call failure ? Before Winner and ST, for me the era ended with OOU, and it was pretty dramatic fall from top 10s to not even making the top 20.. and it happened very quick..
Back to VV... I agree one of my all time favourites is VV track, a 12 inch mega mix here in Europe would have been fantastic, but alas... I expect none of us will actually agree if it was the right choices in singles, in fact I guess all of them could've been at some point, even LLALL! I do feel ABBA should have taken a few more risks in singles, more variety... Hole inYour Soul for instance, Eagle in the UK , WAISAD to mention 3...
over all VV album was actually packed full of singles more than any other ? and I believe they all could've been hits, top 10s, number ones , different story...

I'd be very surprised if it charts, to expensive, small quantities, but you never know takes about 1000 sales these days to get into UK top 75 album chart so it would need to sell well...
As for ITWFTN! a condrum, that we will probably never know why.... like you said considered lead single to never be released, strange one..
Mind you on another thread I believe .. AGAN and personally KOF should've been singles and huge....strange choices at the time🙄
