Anyone else think Agnetha looks a little like the actress Reese Witherspoon here? Well, there's definitely a slight resemblance but, and I know I'm biased, Agnetha is way more beautiful.

Funnily enough, Happy New Year is one of my favourite songs. I find it touching.
Super Trouper is also kind of Christmassy. That doesn't put me off, though.

I hate novelty singles with a passion, especially ones that butcher an original song's lyrics. However, there's no denying it's for a good cause so all power to whoever is behind that sausage rolls thing. It's just a pity there's even a need for foodbanks in this, one of the richest countries in the world. In fact, it's an absolute disgrace. I'm an all year round kind of person- Christmas is no bigger a deal than any other time of the year when people are still desperate and struggling.
I'm so glad ABBA didn't release a Christmas single or album. I shudder at the thought.

Oh, thank you Edmund and my very best wishes to you!
I'm glad you'll be returning soon and I look forward to reading your thoughts about ABBA's songs. That's actually my favourite part of being an ABBA fan - I love discovering how other fans feel about the songs.

Gosh, I'd imagined that the songs might have solo parts within them, like in The Name of the Game. I'm so curious now, re: I Still Have Faith In You being about ABBA themselves. It sounds like it might be quite touching. I hope I get a lump in my throat when I hear it. As time is cracking on, and we (and ABBA) are not getting any younger this could be the very last time we hear ABBA singing together. Let that sink in. I suppose there's a possibility that there may be nuggets sequestered in "the vaults" somewhere (despite BennyBjörn saying there's "nothing else there") if we consider how recordings by Queen and George Michael see the light of day after they've passed on. Trouble is, we might have all kicked the bucket by the time that happens.
The day these two new songs are released can't come soon enough. I hope it's in the spring and not the autumn (although autumn would be apt given that ABBA themselves are in the autumn of their lives). How many times will I listen to those songs on repeat, I wonder?
I imagine I Still Have Faith In You to have the pace of that all-time classic The Winner Takes It All, clearly one of ABBA's best songs 😛

I need to know how many albums were released during that time for me to grasp how impressive that is.
So off you trot to find out, Graham. 😆

Funnily enough, I was quite saddened by this news today (given that people we don't know personally die every day). There was just something so touching about this lady and how she fought this bloody evil cancer for so long. 61 is far too young! And what a voice! Immediately recognisable. Some very iconic songs.
Her family must be devastated.

That's not a bad idea at all! If only.
It would give ABBA some much needed street cred after the abomination that was Mamma Mia!.

Am I the only one who'd relish a butt-kicking roborampage led by the Frida and Agnetha avatars? Um, hello?! I believe I hinted at such a thing.

Omg Colin you have scared the bejaysus out of me with those possibilities. Perhaps 'Agnetha' and 'Frida' will go on the rampage like a robot from Blade Runner?
BBC news readers are clearly not human, not with all the lies they keep feeding the populace.

Incidentally, how I'm going to deal with the videos (IF we ever get to hear the blimmin' songs) is suspension of disbelief. We're surrounded by artifice. I'll listen to the music/voices ..that's my main focus. Besides, it's not as if this hasn't been done before (use of something other than the actual performers in the videos). There was cartoon Happy Hawaii ABBA and funny little Spice Girl faerie creatures in the video for Viva Forever. I wasn't too traumatised by them.
Yep, I'll just take it for what it is- technology and a bit of pretend/make -believe. It's all illusion anyway. The real ABBA probably retired to Mars years ago and are still the age they were when they left. The ABBA you see mooching about are in fact, ROBOTS.

I wouldn't mind seeing some ABBA zombies, tbf. Glamourous ones, mind.
I learnt a new word yesterday. 'Doppelbanger'. It's someone who is attracted to and cops off with people resembling themselves. Fancy that! 😲

Well, the genie is out of the bottle and it ain't going back in. I remember when there was talk of making films with dead movie actors and I was appalled (still am, sort of), then I saw that perfume ad with Cherlize Theron and a digital Marilyn Monroe. Spooky. I still don't know how I feel about it. In some ways, I'm a purist. Don't tamper with my b/w film noir classics! But you know what? It's gonna happen anyway so I might as well embrace it. I get the ageing thing. I wish we didn't live in such a shallow world. But we do. ABBA know this. I don't think they're 'denying' anything. They're embracing new technology. Only a fool would think these new avatars are really ABBA and that the real people aren't quietly continuing to age in the background (as we all are). Maybe they understand (or think) the public won't accept them as they are now, wrinkles and all? It's sad. I wish they were braver and just went for it. I've said before that they could make the best of themselves, wear excellent clothes, good make up, photography, etc. Who cares that they won't look like their younger selves? Well, society clearly does, damn it. It's always been about youth. That ain't gonna change any time soon, I don't think. It should, of course.
Or maybe it's new technology and they haven't over thought it, just want to have fun with it? Truth is, older as they are they may still feel the urge to be creative and record but not have the energy or will to undertake the rigmarole of promotion. Who could blame them? I'm knackered at the end of the day, too.

Michal, I like video games! I know what you mean, but even if there are 'thousands' of videos you don't have to watch them all, just your favourites. It'd be impossible anyway. I LIKE the idea of Frida singing in different environments amd with different backgrounds. That is a great idea! I wasn't that keen on this avatar malarkey but now I'm cautiously excited.

You don't have to be enthusiastic. I don't think we're talking about thousands of videos. For me, I'm excited at the prospect of a video featuring realistic versions of ABBA performing some of their greatest songs which didn't have an official video- such as The Visitors (I'd LOVE to see 'Frida' singing this! What's not to love?!), Angeleyes, Like An Angel Passing Through My Room. And many more. I don't think I'm alone in this. Perhaps it won't happen. But I hope it does.

Wow jj, that has really whetted my appetite! Just IMAGINE how great this might be. There's nothing they can't do. I'm thinking 'they' (whoever 'they' might be) could do videos for old ABBA songs! I'm imagining Agnetha and Frida singing along to Lay All Your Love On Me. That could be SO good! I'm buzzing.

I'm not sure why but I wasn't massively impressed with that choir. I get it, but something about it is 'off' to me.
Even so, I'd like to think Agnetha and Frida would view this and feel immensely proud.

I'd love to think that was true but I'm cynical. Have you tried messaging the person who posted and asked them for more details? Such as a link to any Swedish articles mentioning this? I just can't imagine Agnetha and Benny being at an event like this and NOT being spotted and reported although I suppose this is possible.
I love the idea of Agnetha being a fan of Kate Bush. That would make me so happy. There are similarities between them. Not so much musically but the intense privacy. Actually, I can't imagine any member of ABBA not being a fan of Kate.

Omg wouldn't it be just awful if the songs were lacklustre? I'd be devastated. But surely this cannot happen. Please, by all the saints in heaven, let it not be so. I couldn't give a toss if everyone hates them- I just want to love them and be moved and get THAT feeling again.
I suppose it's a possibility. I do recall Agnetha being a bit off-key singing TWOFD for BennyBjörn with Frida. And Frida herself sounded rather dodgy singing the perfectly dreadful Morning Has Broken a few years ago. I know it was a favourite of her husband's but oh boy that was grim.
Still, it's a different ballgame in the studio so I'm still hopeful.

It's easy to make assumptions. For all we know there might already be a bunch of ABBA songs recorded and in the can. We just don't know. As you've said time and time again, Colin, we just have to be patient and wait. It would appear it's all down to the people behind the scenes working on those blinkin' avatars. Once that's done, let's hope we get to finally hear the two new songs. I'm not too fussed about avatars or any show, I simply want to hear the music. I think it's safe to say that's what most of us want. We don't actually know if BennyBjörn don't consider the ABBA project is important to them or not. It's still in progress so I see nothing wrong in them going ahead with other projects, even if I have little or no interest in them.
However, if the new songs don't actually transpire then I think I'll be extremely disappointed. Somehow, I can't see that happening, not after all this fuss.

Cracking thoughts, there's nothing I disagree with. I like 'Move On' a little more, perhaps (not that I ever play it-I'm a bad ABBA fan).
How I wish I could express how I feel about the songs as well as people like yourself, orf and hometime do. I remember I wrote out my ABBA top 100 for the old abba4ever site but didn't get around to posting it and I've moved house in the meantime so God knows where it is. It was a laborious process. If only I'd TYPED it out! Silly me.
One thing: I love 'Tiger', too. I tend to play the version from The Movie. It's "rougher", more raw. I know it was doctored heavily in post-production but this kind of edgy, hardcore version works for me. It's got blood and sweat and is so thrilling to listen to. Maybe it's got something to do with the roar of the crowd and the almost palpable tension you can see on their faces as they prepare to go on stage. I wish they'd used more of this in the released version. It's still a belter of a track though.

In this article, Björn says his favourite play is Waiting For Godot by Samuel Beckett and that it "may have inspired some lyrics lately, we shall see". Could this possibly be an indication of new ABBA songs?! Obviously, I don't want to jump the gun but it's hard not to wonder. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/my-culture-fix-bjoern-ulvaeus-l72wknb0tIncidentally, Colin, it's not so much that I don't like to see ABBA given awards (it's great to see the group members) more that gaining or not gaining a Brit award doesn't MATTER. ABBA's worth is already recognised- its a given. They don't need some silly statue from that razzmatazz show that is basically people just showing off and blowing smoke. ..um, well you get the picture.

We live in such a tinder-swipe, NEXT! world these days and it has even affected me. Me, who used to enjoy a good book, would savour a whole album, etc. So it's good to pause for a while. I have difficulty concentrating and seeing things through. I tend to listen to the same bloody songs recently, in such a rut. Reading these thoughts makes me think it might be time to give the ABBA albums, particularly the older ones, a new listen, like in the old days. See if I can appreciate things I didn't spot in my younger years.
Inclined to agree about Intermezzo. What a racket. Why is it even in The Movie? Benny's a genius, but this proves even geniuses have off days.

Maybe the reason ABBA aren't 'honoured' with a Brit is because the people behind it know that only Björn will turn up.
Let's face it, we all want to see Agnetha and Frida.
Those awards thingymebobs are a load of nonsense anyway.
