^^ Lol, you must be the only person on the planet who lists Agnetha vol.2 as their favorite. Ha! I'm either very unique, or crazy, or possibly tone deaf, or perhaps a combination. Let's just say I prefer unusual music.

seems like the vocal on Under Attack is extra-loud and everything else pushed into the background... Was this intentional or is this an alternate mix....
or was the final like that too? I havent heard it in awhile so pardon my confusion

Did she explain why she thought they were cheesy?
A lot of people really dont like Abba. That's just the way it is.

it may well be that the "disco" label attached to Abba also brings the secondary label of "cheese".... a LOT of people think disco was, and is, cheesy.
That's just a guess.

its a good bet that its nothing from Ring Ring or Waterloo, made the girl in the original post say Abba is cheesy.
Someone might say all their big hits are cheese. I don't know. There's nothing wrong with a nice bit of cheese.
And some cheesecake to go along with it ;-)

Even the Beatles wrote cheese.
Because if you're going to accuse Abba of being cheesy, listen to Honey Honey and then listen to some of the tracks off the Beatles Hard Days Night.
I cant remember which song, but Bjorn and Benny more or less lifted the chords to the words "no other place in the world that I'd rather be" off one of those songs. Or maybe Benny stole it from the Beach Boys. LOL. I will say that Benny's fake orchestra keyboard sound in Honey Honey is the very definition of 70s keyboard cheese. It always make me chuckle... I like it.
My point is, cheesy is an odd term and all the great rock-pop bands that are revered from the 60s, wrote cheesy lyrics and music too.
But sure, there are those that scorn the Beatles and The Beach Boys too.

Good point - look up "definition of the word cheesy music" online and you'll get a multitude of answers.
Usually it's a derogatory term, but, I like a lot of music others call cheesy. I listen to a lot of Muzak so what do I know....

I watched the first season. Some stuff was amusing, my favorite character was the caustic Aubrey and my favorite line was Bjorn telling the star of the show, "Why would I want anymore money?".
However. I openly detest NBC for their overt political bias (yes, every network in America is just as bad, I know...) and I knew going in, they would waste no time in portraying left-wing Sweden as a paradise, and contrast it harshly with elements of America that NBC hates, as in the ridiculous cartoonish examples of America as right-wing ultra-conservative religious kooks (his parents I believe). NBC sucks.
Other than that, I liked it.

HA!
It's funny how music has become so important in society that people will judge each other by the kind of music they like.
Abba gets scorned, but, so does everybody else. I know guys who hate the Beatles and ten years ago I would have considered that unthinkable.
Sir Paul has done all kinds of cheese, "Silly Love Songs" being just one prime example, and he's a Royal Knight or something.
Pop is loaded with cheese. That's sort of the appeal to it. Sure it's not exactly Stravinsky or Shostakovich. Lyrically Abba weren't exactly cutting any edges with stuff like Honey Honey.
I dont care, it's fun!

They may well have been mis-or-under marketed here in the USA, but, one had to wonder if they were overly concerned. I dont know what the status of their contract/distribution agreement with Atlantic was. A band of their sales level might have gone off to another distributor if they had the leverage, and felt it was a better move for them.
One of them, Benny or Bjorn, has been quoted that Abba would have had to spend a LOT more time in the USA to make it bigger than they did. Perhaps it wasnt just management or marketing. They also didnt want to put the time in away from home.

Honestly, they are cheesy sometimes, but I like it anyway.
Lots of pop from the 70s is regarded as cheesy.
And I dont have a problem with that.... I long ago gave up caring about what another person thought of music I liked.
