It has only just occurred to me that they changed the look from 1979 (which was originally stated) to 1977. I think this was a good decision, as I prefer the 1977 look with the long hair for A&F.
The problem with MMM and ST is that they were both rooted in a 1970s European cabaret sound (didn't they call it Schlager) which doesn't seem popular today. SOS and LAYLOM are more acceptable to today's audiences - SOS is classic Pop/Rock while LAYLOM is Pop/Disco that is still well-liked. Plus LAYLOM has that anthemic hymn-like quality that is very distinctive and much more appealing than the chugging sound of ST.

Alan, I see your point about " The Winner Takes It All " and the powerful accompanying promo clip. I think it is the pathos and utter heartbreaking sadness enveloping the song that is its crucial element and I suppose it would be a little out of place to see Agnetha's Abbatar performance stepping back to her younger 70's image instead of the video. But that's fine with me. I just want to hear the song in all its glory as I do " Thank You For The Music " and " Dancing Queen " likewise. The last three songs appear in the wrong order as part of the concert encore for me. I would have liked " Thank You For The Music ", " The Winner Takes It All " and then finishing with " Dancing Queen " in that sequence ending of the concert. But you can't ask for everything and I am not arguing with either Benny or Bjorn who have put on a terrific show. I am rambling on a bit. Sorry !

ABBA Voyage - Live Concert Footage | Agnetha Falskog Abbatar vs Deepfake Comparison

Is the argument to include in the Voyage concert ABBA songs more in keeping with today's tastes mean songs that are poorly constructed, extremely repetitious, lacking melodic inspiration, with pedestrian chordal movement? I jest - but I do think there is s a lot of that about. Whatever your opinion of Super Trouper - and I've gone off it's 'chuggy' chorus (to use a word gamleman, employed) - it was a massive hit in the UK, and has solid claims to be included: a lovely lead vocal by Frida, particularly poignant in the bridge, and great backing vocals. Angeleyes is in my top 5 ABBA songs and I bet it would have gone down wonderfully - more so than The Visitors, imo, even though the latter is my No. 1 ABBA song and I'm delighted it has been included.

That is a very accurate summary of modern Pop music, richard. I rarely hear it but sometimes can't help it being inflicted upon me in shops and am often amazed/irritated at how simple, shallow and repetitious it can be. I think "Super Trouper" is one of ABBA's achievements (UK No 1, at least). I would include it on a retrospective compilation of ABBA's milestones (that I discuss in another thread) but not necessarily in a concert in which the songs have to be tailored to a 21st century audience.

I do not understand the hate for "Super Trouper" at all. It's definitely a bop and it's one of the relatively rare ABBA tunes featuring the guys' voices prominently. And it's a song that is literally about a spotlight, and the entire Voyage show is basically one big light show; it's kind of a missed opportunity to do something really cool with spotlights.
It seems that not a single person has lamented the exclusion of "I Have a Dream." LOL

I love Super Trouper, always have. The way you get sucked into the chorus, the beautiful harmonies and the girls’ diction is perfection. I saw a comment by a YouTube commentator that you have an A acappella chorus, a band chorus and an electric chorus, plus the wee minor key changes and the intertwined counter melodies. The video could easily have been reproduced with the disco lights in the background, and I am disappointed it isn’t included.

They said there are a couple more songs, so maybe ST or TACOM might still appear in the Show, still early days
lf there are a couple of songs that don't include the Abbatar's ie an animated video; then potentially they could include any Song with minimal effort.
From the Set list my three favs are
Hole in your Soul' When all is said and Done' Visitors
Least fav
Fernando' Does your Mother Know' Summer Night City' (unless it is similar to live version with the acapella intro.) Eagle, (again unless, similar to 79 live Version)
All above l would replace with,
Take a Chance on Me' I' a Marrionette' If it wasn't for the Nights' The way old friends do' change of lyrics, ' Grammar error 'words of violence' 'words of anger' would fit better.. This I'd have as the penultimate song, Finishing on an high with Dancing Queen'

ABBA Voyage - Live Concert Footage | Agnetha Falskog Abbatar vs Deepfake Comparison Wow. It’s a shame ABBA didn’t do a deep fake pass at the end of the other work. The deep fake is better.

Alan, quoting one of my posts, said
"shouldn’t necessarily go on what’s popular now, more on what’s good."
Clearly you want good songs but they need, for the most part be popular too. It's predominantly a Greatest Hits gig.
Loads of brilliant ABBA songs not known to the public/casual fans but you can't have more than one or two of them in a show.
I was simply pointing out that some songs that were popular, aren't now and vice versa.
Gambleman makes good points on this.

I've had another thought about the omission of "Super Trouper"... perhaps the line "wishing every show was the last show" was not deemed appropriate for the ABBAtars show, for one reason or another.

Yes that’s true as the song was recorded on the back of their 1979/80 tour. Maybe the Abbatars can sing it in April/May next year lol.

In the CNBC interview Bjorn said that they came up with a setlist of "I don't know" 23 or 25...
Since he said "I don't know", maybe... they've recordered 23 or 25 songs for this show

I think the whole point of a discussion forum is the conflict of likes, dislikes, choices, preferences, ideas, views, opinions, comments ( the list is endless ) which makes ABBAChat interesting and exciting. We are all human at the end of the day but we are all united in our love for ABBA and their timeless music. By the way, does anyone else think the intro to " When You Danced With Me " is almost reminiscent to " Arrival " but in a more fast paced jazzy way. This song could have replaced " Does Your Mother Know " hands down ! A potential inclusion to the " Voyage " concert set list ? A very short song after all. You never know. There are always surprises.

There's a video on Youtube showing the seque from Lay All Your Love On Me to Summer Night City. Another wow moment! Summer Night City sounds soo much better when the ladies belt out the choruses ("When the night comes with the action...") rather than the breathy Bee Gee-esque style on the studio recording. Would be interesting to know if the vocals used in this song are from the original multitrack tapes or a live recording.
Also the original vocals for SOS were deleted from the original multitrack recording when Lena Anderson recorded her German lanuage version. So I wonder how they they managed to extract the vocals as they definitely sound like they are from the studio recording.

I'm really surprised by the lack of love for "Super Trouper" on this forum and whilst "Money, Money, Money" is not one of my faves, I'm perplexed by the omission of these two - both were big hits, particularly in the UK, and concert-ready. We have to remember that this forum is a TINY percentage of ABBA fandom and one person's like or dislike of a song (mine included) doesn't make it fact (that it's not a good song or whatever). There are many fans who love Super Trouper and I'm one of them. I disagree that Super Trouper is no loss at all to the show. Many fans lament its omission from the concert. Of course it's not the end of the world and some songs are inevitably going to be omitted with the resulting disappointment for some fans. It doesn't personally seriously bother me that someone would dislike a favourite of mine but I will challenge statements presented as fact. I'd rather Take A Chance On Me and Angeleyes were included but there will be fans of Does Your Mother Know/Björn who are thrilled by its inclusion. It may not be a favourite of mine but I'm happy for those who will be pleased by its inclusion. But where is Tiger? When I Kissed The Teacher? I'm a Marionette? Oh, well. Can't please us all! I'm sure I'll be singing along to Does Your Mother Know when the time comes anyway. Incidentally, while I knew spoilers were inevitable I think it's understandable that Universal remove the uploads on YouTube. Its tricky, because obviously many people will never get to see Voyage due to financial and geographical issues and the uploads are the only way they can join in the party. Such a quandary! What to do about it?! I have no clue.

I wonder how much jiggerypokery was needed to adjust the tempos to match. The visual transition is terrific! joseph said: Very well said! Given the subtle freshness they seem to have added to the synth and drum sounds in particular across the songs, I think Super Trouper (when it eventually emerges*) may be slightly zestier than the original release. The 1981 live version has a tad bit more bite to it, so I have no doubt that it will sound great come the moment. Same with TACOM: I feel sure it too will* emerge for inclusion when the time comes to mix things up a little. A tenner says they repeat the 1979 live version trick by prefacing the song with the pre-recorded chant to get the crowd going. They also created a great ending for it, but it means using the live vocals. Or maybe they could revive that acapella ending they created for the German TV appearances if they prefer to use studio vocals. * I say when and will because I feel certain these songs are waiting in the wings. I wouldn't be surprised if IHAD emerges for the December shows to add a little seasonal cosy singalonga vibe. So some of you might need to stock up on antihistamines!

What is odd and confusing is the photograph of ABBA in Voyage album sleeve where the are around the piano singing with cameras attached to their chests. At first I thought it would be for a video of Little Things: I originally thought that the video would start with ABBA in their seventies singing, then transforming into the young avatars. When this didn’t happen I thought it would be for the show, but again no. I’m wondering if it is for a project or simply just to get ABBA’s lip movements for the avatars.

I guess if everybody's favourite song was included, the show would run for quite a long time! They would need more than a couple of breaks to save the ABBAtars electricity lol!! I think it's great that The Visitors, Hole In Your Soul and When All Is Said And Done have been included, offers a different side of ABBA that quite a few fans won't know, particularly the first two. Can anyone tell me how ISHFIY and DSMD went down with the audience? Does the key change in DSMD in the last chorus sound as good as the record?

^^^ DSMD , was a crowd pleaser, Ironically I think ISHFIY got a slightly bigger applause.. but each night will be different. Again along With Chiquitita, and Fernando, possible the more simpler of sets/ lighting.. Could it be the video we crave for,, juries out, but better than lyric, but I’m guessing on school report it would read .........Could do better ?
Key change as good...

I'm really surprised by the lack of love for "Super Trouper" on this forum
As am I. It's one of ABBA's most personal songs, after all. And so touching and moving, too. The loneliness and the emptiness of life for musicians who've signed up for a tour and feel lonely on the road. The longing to return, to be back home with the people that really mean a lot to you. Your beloved partner who isn't with you.
There is not a more heartfelt and moving line in any ABBA song than this: "But I won't feel blue, like I always do... 'cause somewhere in the crowd there's YOU"
An amazing and very emotional song for me.

^^ Indeed.
Strange thing is I've never read even one negative opinion which has convinced me of anything bad about Super Trouper. No actual REASON that makes sense, anyway. Not one. Not that anyone HAS to like it, of course! There just seems to be an irrational dislike of it for some inexplicable reason. Not that I rave about everything ABBA ever recorded- far from it! There are many ABBA songs I'm less than keen on, despite claims to the contrary. I'm not a blindly devoted fan. But Super Trouper is a perfect pop song- a beautiful, wistful one at that. Maybe it's the (arguably) rather silly su pa pa, troo pa pa? But I find that rather sweet and charming, even child-like. And how can anyone dislike Frida's vocal?! That build up to the chorus?! The actual lyrical theme?!
Still, it'd be boring if we all agreed on everything.
