I think this might actually be the best of the lyric videos yet. The chintz is laid on a bit thick but, then again, TYFTM is a very chintzy song. I just hope they run out of rub-on floral transfers and glittery star stickers before they get on to songs like The Visitors. It's all very mumsy so far.
I am not a big fan of the lyric video. For one thing why? They have the videos from back in the day and they where just great why mess with wonderful images. I don't understand it. I guess its for the young fans but to me they look cheap.
I agree with you in most respects, welshboy. My original thought was that officially, professionally produced lyric videos would have been great for those songs that had no video or performance footage. But the Lay All Your Love On Me lyric video looks like a screensaver. Really disappointing.
I think Voulez-Vous and Thank You For The Music benefitted most from the treatment. Both the original videos were darkly lit to begin with, and the straightforward performance approach had little in the way of imagination. It's a bit sugary, but I think the TYFTM is an improvement because the treatment ties in (possibly a little too much) with the video for I Still Have Faith In You. All four members of the group are given their moments on screen, and the scrap book idea helps make sense of the flow of lyrics and even the extraneous nonsense like flowers and stars. But look at the utter mess they made of The Winner Takes It All and SOS. I don't understand why they didn't use TV performance footage for these lyric videos and leave the originals alone.
There are some videos that I think have the potential to be horror shows if they're subjected to the twee and garish approaches used so far. Take Summer Night City - for me, it's ABBA's best video and anything they add is only going to wreck it. The lyric vid for TWTIA shows that they can't get their head around the central theme of a song, so what in hell is going to happen when they eventually reach When All Is Said And Done and Knowing Me, Knowing You? And as for The Visitors? Sheesh.
Why are they even bothering with these lyric videos. Are they under the fond delusion that it's something fresh and interesting for those who won't be going to the Voyage show, or a nice little bonus for those who do?

Seems to be quiet with the releases of those Lyric Videos, they must of used up all their box of crayons, in the graphics department! Probably just as well.
Two Songs that would of made sense to promote, would be 'People Need Love' and 'Angeleyes' both were Singles. PNL being 50, and AE having a resurgence on various platforms. But have no presence currently on Abba's Official YouTube list. AE has just passed the 100 million mark on Spotify.
Here's how those Lyric Videos have performed so far, on Abba's Official YouTube Page
Not counting The Voyage Lyric Videos.
The best performer is:
1st. Chiquita 6+ million views, will over take 'Under Attack' tomorrow, rising to (34) on the overall List.
2nd 'Voulez Vous 2 Million Views. (46)
3. 'Lay all your love on me 1.6m (48)
4. 'Dancing Queen 700,000 (52) * The original Video being No.1 on the list, and currently with 636,000,000 views avg, 300,000 daily.
5. "Waterloo 500,000+ (53)
6. 'SOS. 500,000+. (54)
7. 'The Winner takes it all 400,000+ (55)
8. 'Thank you for the Music 177,000 (56)
Of the 8 lyric Video's released, this is how they compare with their Current Chart position with their counter part, The *Original Video.
1 DQ *1 2 Chiquita *4 3 TWTIA *7 4 SOS *12 5 Waterloo *13 6 VV *14 7 TYFTM *16 8, ? Lay all your love on me, unfortunately does not have a Official Video on the YT list.
It's a slight improvement on recent efforts, I suppose. At least the flowers seem to hark back to the embroidery on the girls' dresses. With so little action in the original video, they didn't exactly ruin much.
Fabian is posting his own and much superior videos on the AbbaAntologiAbba thread. The latest one for DSMD is probably the best but I also liked the one for WYDWM - the Kilkenny tourist board will love it!
