I hope they carry out the avatars with a benign sense of humour and adventure, Tony! Because one dreads to think of the techno/bio/AI horrors going on in secret labs around the world. I fear Colin is nearer to stating the truth than not. So it's good to look forward to the best use of graphical/animation techniques with ABBA, hopefully!
I share Orf's and Josef's preference for today's older members of ABBA to be presenting the new songs, but unfortunately, the bias towards 'younger' still rules, even though western societies are aging.

Crikey, an Andy B. photomanip. Whatever happened to him? I remember that when I'd spotted he'd joined here, I sent him a quick PM saying it was good to see him, but he never responded, and right after that he seemed to drop off the radar.

Am I the only one who'd relish a butt-kicking roborampage led by the Frida and Agnetha avatars? Um, hello?! I believe I hinted at such a thing.

Yay! #TeamRoborampage
If they put their minds to this, they could develop a computer game. Players could win gold discs, chart placings, awards; buy accessories like platform boots, beanie hats, perms. The characters would have to defeat tabloid reporters, rude reviewers and Noel Edmonds.

That's not a bad idea at all! If only.
It would give ABBA some much needed street cred after the abomination that was Mamma Mia!.

On Thursday December 12th a German Publication(?) called Das Erste, (The First), Brisant, (Explosive), did an Interview with Bjorn. In it he only mentions 'I Still Have Faith In You' and 'Don't Shut Me Down'. So, we may only be getting 2 New ABBA Songs, after all the delays and teasing. He says that one of the Songs is by Agnetha Solo, and the other by Frida Solo. (The other Members will - no doubt - do harmonies and backing vocals). 'I Still Have Faith In You' is about ABBA themselves. They are the Subject of that Song.
Here is what Bjorn said:
"It will be time next year," said Björn and added "One song is a kind of ballad. It is about ourselves. It will be called 'I Still Have Faith in You'. The other song is called 'Don't Shut Me Down. Frida will sing one solo, Agnetha the other. But I don't want to reveal who sings what. " I am very proud of both songs. One is like a pop song from the seventies. The other is somehow timeless. About abbatars: The two songs will be the first ABBA songs since 1982! The singing is real. The artists come on to the stage as digital images, so-called avatars, from the computer. "We thought it would be much faster," said Bjorn. "But there were technical difficulties in producing our digital selves."

I remember already Görel talked about that they had one song each they were singing lead on. I think that Frida is singing the ballad and Agnetha the popsong since it has been more usual that Agnetha sings the popsongs. I myself is more curious about the ballad since i prefere ABBA this way and also I think that song has a bigger chance to become popular concerning there age.

Gosh, I'd imagined that the songs might have solo parts within them, like in The Name of the Game. I'm so curious now, re: I Still Have Faith In You being about ABBA themselves. It sounds like it might be quite touching. I hope I get a lump in my throat when I hear it. As time is cracking on, and we (and ABBA) are not getting any younger this could be the very last time we hear ABBA singing together. Let that sink in. I suppose there's a possibility that there may be nuggets sequestered in "the vaults" somewhere (despite BennyBjörn saying there's "nothing else there") if we consider how recordings by Queen and George Michael see the light of day after they've passed on. Trouble is, we might have all kicked the bucket by the time that happens.
The day these two new songs are released can't come soon enough. I hope it's in the spring and not the autumn (although autumn would be apt given that ABBA themselves are in the autumn of their lives). How many times will I listen to those songs on repeat, I wonder?
I imagine I Still Have Faith In You to have the pace of that all-time classic The Winner Takes It All, clearly one of ABBA's best songs 😛

Even if each of these two new ABBA songs represent, respectively, an Agnetha lead and a Frida lead, I hope that, in terms of vocal character/structure only, they are nearer to Fernando or Chiquitita than they are to TWTIA or TDBYC. This is because, for me, the optimum magic of ABBA was the joint vocals of Agnetha and Frida.
I appreciate, of course, that after all these years their voices will have changed, but I dearly wish to hear something of that magic of their combined singing, still.

I`m sure we will have a lot of the joint voices since Björn and Benny talked about that when they started singing together it sounded just like in the old Days.

Just heard that the Uk number one was achieved by physical and download sales rather than streaming. So it can be done and I believe the figure was 90 000 ish. I think Abba could top that given their fanbase. I have to say I hate novelty songs. Really good songs ruined by naff 💤lyrics. Might be a funny idea over a few drinks but for mass consumption? Suppose it was for charity but just cover the songs without the silly , not hilarious, dire reworked lyrics. I don’t even like sausage rolls. 🤢

Madonnabba -- I too dislike 'Novelty' Records, but there are 1000's of Homeless, (Men, Women & Children), on the Streets of Britain, and many died in the past and many will die in the future. LadyBaby, (Mark Hoyle), and his Family, are just trying to raise both Funds and awareness for such unfortunate people. We must help the less fortunate at this time of the Year especially, as their Lives are awful. We can surely 'endure' an awful Novelty Single, if it helps such people? It will only be around for about 2 Weeks - just like his 'We Built This City' Hit, from Christmas 2018. That one did this in the UK Top 100 - No.1 - No.21 - OUT. I've watched 3 Films of 'A Christmas Carol', in the past Week. They teach us all to think of the poor & needy, and to try to help them... I try, very hard, to be extra kind to people, at Christmas, as we never know if we will even be around in a Year's time. Therefore, I urge, as many ABBA Fans as possible, to give Christmas Greetings, here at ABBA Chat, in a Forum, that you may not usually go to: abbachat.com/thread/1234/christmas-wishes-all-forum ABBA New Music will be released in various ways, including CD and Downloads. We will see if any ABBA 'Singles' can reach the Top 10's of the UK and other Countries Singles Charts. Nearly all 'Old' Acts can no longer do it. However - as will all CD's & Downloads - if enough Fans buy them, anything is possible. Including No.1 Hits. As I've said before, 'Old' Acts can easily have No.1 Albums. ABBA would stroll to No.1. In 2019, 'Old' Acts that had UK etc. No.1 Albums were: Kylie Minogue, (her 7th), Westlife, (their 8th), Rod Stewart, (his 10th) Bruce Springsteen, (his 11th), and Robbie Williams, (his 13th). It is time for ABBA - their 10th... In the meantime, Carl Magnus Palm has suddenly delayed the publication of his 'ABBA On Record' Book until 2021. It was supposed to be out much earlier than that. I've asked him if he knows something, that ABBA are keeping secret - such as a 2020 New Album. He assures me that the delay of his Book has nothing to do with anything that ABBA may be planning. It is intriguing, to wonder what goes on behind the scenes...

I am not an uncaring person and politically aware. I think the motive for the song is great but I would rather the subject was not trivialised by sausage roll lyrics. Having said that it may not have got the exposure otherwise.

I hate novelty singles with a passion, especially ones that butcher an original song's lyrics. However, there's no denying it's for a good cause so all power to whoever is behind that sausage rolls thing. It's just a pity there's even a need for foodbanks in this, one of the richest countries in the world. In fact, it's an absolute disgrace. I'm an all year round kind of person- Christmas is no bigger a deal than any other time of the year when people are still desperate and struggling.
I'm so glad ABBA didn't release a Christmas single or album. I shudder at the thought.

Funnily enough, Happy New Year is one of my favourite songs. I find it touching.
Super Trouper is also kind of Christmassy. That doesn't put me off, though.
