Remember those two new Abba songs coming out 2018. They didn’t!
by PAUL CASHMERE on JANUARY 9, 2019
in NEWS
The first new Abba songs in over three decades have been delayed and no-one knows when they are coming out now.
Benny Anderson of Abba spoke with Ice The Site before Christmas and his words are now just starting to be heard. Basically it all tied up is contracts not being agreed to.
“When that press release came out everything was up and running smoothly then it didn’t run as smoothly,” Benny said. “We are still trying to establish the agreement that needs to be done to be able to continue. We are good. It’s the other side, everything that has to be done, everything that has to be drawn. It’s delayed. It’s not our doing”.
Benny has also admitted that the two songs, ‘I Still Have Faith In You’ and ‘Don’t Shut Me Down’, aren’t even finished. “I haven’t mixed the songs yet,” he said. “They are rough mixes, we have to add some orchestra, we need to add some vocals, I think, when the ladies are available. I’ll do it. The songs will be ready, in the can, in Spring. Then we’ll see when everything falls in the slot. When the release is I can’t say. We can’t wait forever”.
Benny is also suggesting that there may be an extra (third) song to go with the release. “We recorded two new songs. We may do another one,” he said. “This is for the video coming out, the next is for the show and that might take 6-8 (more) months. The reason we did the new songs was to put them in the new show. When you go on the road you need some new stuff. When the show comes up these songs will be old so we may need to do another one for the show. We are working on it.
It was like old time when the four founding members of Abba got back into the studio. “Frida and Agnetha, Bjorn and myself, we had such a good time,” he said. “It took three minutes and we were back where it ended, having fun. Women singing, we were sitting there listening. It was just like no time had passed. We all felt and that we were all very happy about feeling that. All four of us”.
While Benny thinks a third song could be real he hasn’t told Frida or Agnetha. “I haven’t talked to Frida and Agnetha yet about doing one more but I think they’d say yeah”

I - Colin -- The truth is that ABBA announced the 2 New Songs far too soon. The delays frustrate their Fans. But, what is worse, is that it gives ammunition to people who dislike ABBA. It gives them the opportunity to claim that ABBA are 'messing' about, and that the New Songs will never come out. (That ABBA don't really know what they are doing).

I was looking forward to it, and I admit I thought they were giving up. It turns out they were sticking to the plan despite some hinderances
Benny has a good point when he said that when the ABBAtars are on the road they should get the new stuff in. An ABBAtar tour without new songs may look like they're part of the hologram "cash cows" and he's making some decent moves there by throwing in one more song after ISHFIY and DSMD. I digress: if an ABBAtar's setlist were to be announced at some point, the older, well known songs (Dancing You Know What) should be reserved for the end of the setlist and encores, whereas its lesser-known songs (I Saw it In the Mirror, Santa Rosa) should be added gradually in the setlist
Hopefully those leakers won't get a hold of ABBA's digital files (or the good old fashioned tapes, if I read it correctly; these B&B boys were using them for the new songs?).

I guess we are all a little frustrated, it has been a while since the announcement.
Personally, what we haven't had we cant miss as they say. I've waited 30 plus years, what's another few months .
Weve been teased many times before whether deliberately or not, the odd track, for those that can remember Dreamworld , I am The City, both old hat now but at the time.. wow... reunion rumours, all there to keep us hoping..
Something will happen, hopefully soon, and again I personally think outside us dedicated fans and the music business , it will all be new news again when it happens and the hype will naturally come along with it, regardless of how old the " new" tracks are by then , they will actually be new...
I sit and wait...

Still waiting.. Latest news, which ironically we have all heard already !! In Variety, BBC , is that the new tracks and possible 3rd, now hoping for Autumn... with a bit of luck😮 Im beginning to think, why not release the 2 " new" ones get us all excited, then record another 2 for the show...

Less than 2 Weeks ago, Gorel told a German News Paper, that ABBA Fans were getting no more than 2 New Songs. Certainly not a New Album. It was 2 Songs and no more. Yet Benny & Bjorn have said that there will be 3 New Songs. That 1 more will be done. More recently Bjorn has said that it could be 4 New Songs - maybe even more. No wonder Fans are confused, as to what exactly ABBA are really going to 'give' the Fans. Yesterday and Today -- Various Media Sites have done Articles regarding the delays to ABBA's Plans. Depending on which Site you look at, we may get the New ABBA Songs in 'The Summer' - or as late as 'The Autumn'/'The Fall' - if not even later...Even The UK Charts Company is interested in the New ABBA Songs. They have done more than one Article about them in recent Months... Monday 21st January and Tuesday 22nd January 2019 - Various Articles With Up-Dated New ABBA Songs Info... All the recent international media reports in press and radio are just some time behind. In fact I don't see any new information. Remember that Görel already told these things to Swedish press in October as forwarded by contro: abbachat.boards.net/post/16548The media reports now just show the start of the negative public feedback on radio and in articles due to the nonsense of tying the new songs with the virtual ABBA thing and even announcing it all way too early. More mocking comments will be there to come. Also about Benny's recent statement the songs weren't finished. They would have needed at least one to be ready last autumn, right? So, come on.
They did an official statement about the new recordings, signed by all 4. That's what they need to do to honestly tell people about the current status. And it must done in the old-fashioned way through an official press release on abbasite and not by one by one telling some salami slice here or there. Sorry guys, but to me this all is just a major PR desaster which makes me feel more and more disappointed, partly angry and partly just sad.
Summer 2019 was a possible date mentioned by Björn in November. But seriously, such a major release during summer holidays? Who will beleive in such marketing stupidity? As I wrote, my conclusion from this and the experience with this from the past months, is: no release before next Christmas, just as it was planned for 2018. And I still think that this is the earliest date as long as B&B see any of the 2, 3, 4 or 24 yet unfinished songs only in conjunction with the Abbatars.

Well, looking on the bright side of things, it seems like the longer this gets drawn out, the more *potential* songs they seem to be suggesting. Who knows? By 2020, we may actually be looking at an album's worth.

Per Sundin adds: "Both Simon Fuller and Björn and Benny have extremely high demands. It's not enough that the technics is mindblowing for 10 minutes but it's about creating a complete experience that will keep the audience in a grip for maybe 90 minutes." This is a bit off-topic, but is Per Sundin any relation to Mats Sundin, the hockey player?

Mernaprimadonna -- I know that this waiting is very frustrating. However, we have no choice. We have to be patient.
I've noticed that my own interest in ABBA has faded - a lot - since the 'delays' started. It was one 'delay' after another.
The UK Charts Company have told me, that they feel that ABBA will harm their reputation, if the 'delays' carry on, with nothing actually happening. I've seen non-ABBA Fans joking, that the New Singles may never get released, in Posts on UK Chart Sites. They are using the 'delays' to have a dig at ABBA and their 'Plans'. All of which makes me hope and pray that ABBA actually do something New/Fresh this Year. The 'delays' are causing harm to ABBA.
I've also seen ABBA Fans getting angry at each other. Some Fans say that the 'delays' are causing harm to ABBA. Other Fans then get angry and say that those people are 'not 'real' ABBA Fans', and they should 'stop moaning about ABBA'. It can get rather unpleasant, to see Fans against each other, in such ways. I was told that I'm 'Not a Fan', when I mentioned the 'delays' on YouTube, and said that ABBA made a 'mistake', by telling us their 'Plans', (hopes), as soon as April 2018. A Fan was very rude to me, for saying that and I was told that a 'True' ABBA Fan would not have said it.
In the meantime - as I said earlier - my interest in ABBA has fallen, and that is why I have not been Posting here, so much, in recent Weeks. Then again - no-one else has been Posting here, much, either!
Part of me was hoping that this Year's BRIT Awards, (February 20th), would give ABBA the 'Contribution To Music' Award. It has been given since the 1st Awards, (1977), and then each Annual Awards, (1983 to 2019). However, they have now decided to let Acts outside the UK & Ireland have it. Unfortunately, of all the 'International' Acts, in Pop/Rock History, they have decided that Pink shall be the 1st 'International' Act to get it...
Then I hoped that ABBA would present a New Single, at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, but I've heard that they've asked Madonna to appear instead. So that hope has gone too...(Of course, Madonna may have said 'No', but that still does not mean that ABBA will be there...).
At present, it really does look like ABBA won't be letting us have any New Songs until, at least, sometime from September to December. We have a long wait. Hopefully, there won't be 'delays' at that time. That really would be a PR disaster, for ABBA...

I totally get the frustration. I must be more patient than I even thought I was. One of my philosophys is "what you haven't had you can't miss". that said it has been like dangling a carrot that always out of reach, I still believe at some point we will get something, in a perverse sort of way it's been a form of marketing... the wait.... whether it works or backfires time will tell, but aren't we all talking about it one way or another positively or negatively.. When the time does come, all of this will be forgotten and will be the event of the year...if not the decade...hope it lives up to the hype. I still have a sneaking feeling that I Still Have Faith In You will be in the same style of Story Of A Heart...

I don't care a jot about the delay, really. When the songs emerge, it's all going to be massive.
Watch 'ABBA GOLD' zoom back into the UK Top 10, and possibly some other albums too.
No-one will care then how long we've waited. It's almost certain they're being released this year - that fact alone is awesome.

Latest news... Possibly very exciting On UK breakfast TV, The Lorraine Show, this morning 7th March cutting a long story short, she interviews one of her presenters who's. a huge ABBA fan who recently had breakfast with Bjorn in Stockholm .. During that conversation it was mentioned that there were "many more " songs to come enough for an Album ... so this will start the rumours flying around again.. but positive news from what I'd say was a fairly reliable source.

Here is Dan Wootton, (Showbiz 'Expert'), on yesterday's, (Tuesday 5th March), 'Lorraine'.
So, we look like getting a lot more than 2 New ABBA Songs. Maybe even a New ABBA Album:

Thankyou Colin, I'm pretty rubbish at posting stuff like that..
Ok, there's not an awful lot there that we haven't heard in one way or another, I'm just hoping that he (Dan) was not being over dramatic and excitable, as we have heard of a potential 3rd song now it's 'many more' Potential Album.... did Bjorn actually say that or was it Dan getting excited..
As we are all doing... we wait and see...

Well.. who is this guy? Is he supposed to make such statements? Is he credible at all? It seems to me he's just trying to be important. Somehow I don't feel that if the new ABBA album really was on cards, Björn would choose to let the whole world know this way. Somehow the news seem too good to be true...

Similiar thoughts here.
There's no original statement from Björn or anybody else, just the guy's report. So how accurate is it really? Or is it just another occasion where some media makes up their own story? It's important to know Björn's original words about this.
But even if Björn said something like that, he did so in autumn already, for example here
So where's the actual news and who says that this is not just for marketing to keep the media attention high with rumors during the delay?
No, as long as there isn't any propper and reliable official anouncement about anything I don't believe in any of this kind of "news" anymore.

Each to their own thoughts.. However, being a realistic person ( I like to think ) , I'm actually quite optimistic on all of this ' news' filtering through, as I said in a previous post, all of this ' news' whether you feel is good or bad is keeping everything ticking along with media speculating and 'us' talking about it... So , for me , I'm actually living in eternal hope of that new album, whether it's a false hope , only time tell.

foreverfan , I also still cherish the hope that finally we will get that album. That the ABBA members are thinking that maybe after all these delays and waiting and rumours we deserve it. But this guy does not make me believe in it more. Rather the opposite...

Michal and Abbafan2018 - What is it about Dan Wootton's ABBA/Bjorn claims, that you don't trust?
Is it a 'feeling', that Dan creates in you both, as he makes the claims, to Lorraine Kelly?
Is it 'Vibes', that Dan gives off, as a person, or simply that you cannot believe his claims?
Do you feel that his claims are: 'Too good to be true?'. Or is it that Dan comes across as untrustworthy?
There is a reason why I'm asking. I'll Post here - on Saturday - and reveal my own views on Dan etc.

Well, to be honest, I've never heard of this Dan Wootton before. Hence the distrust in the first place. Now that I bothered to put his name to Google, I found out that he's a tabloid journalist (The Sun). Is such a person to be trusted? And the main reason I've already told you… I just don't believe Björn would let the whole world know about such important news by letting it slip to some Dan Wootton who goes to a talk show and reveals it just like that.

Michal -- Dan didn't 'go' to Lorraine Kelly's morning show. He's on it Monday to Friday. He's a sort of 'Showbiz Expert' on it. He tells Lorraine - and the viewers - any Showbiz 'Gossip', or 'News', that he's picked up.
In 'The Sun' Newspaper, he used to just work on the 'Bizarre', (Show Business), Page, but about a Year ago, they promoted him and he now deals with a lot more things in that 'paper.
There is a lot more going on with Dan than that. I really do not want to deflate my own hopes. I may have to...

This news is playing havoc with my self-imposed distance from discussion boards... Hey ho.
I don't have too much reason to doubt Dan Wooton. Yep, he's a tabloid hack and this was a fluffy, gossipy piece. But he doesn't have too much to gain from a fib or an exaggeration. There may be grains of truth in this: Bjorn and Benny may well have written "many more songs" with ABBA in mind. Frida and Agnetha might even have gone into the studio to record them. But none of the four has made any promises beyond the two known titles. That's pretty freeing for them. If the songs don't pass muster for Benny and Bjorn, that could be as much as we'll ever hear. We know they won't release anything they're unhappy with, and if any one of the four loses interest in this limited reunion, then everything stops. But we'll still have the tour and the two new songs.
So Bjorn has just accelerated the buzz of anticipation for the new songs and the ABBAtar tour thingy. Pretty good PR, all told.

Dan Wootton does 'The Sun's Showbiz - Bizarre Page every Saturday. He takes up a Double Page, when Saturday arrives. As Graham says, Dan has not even mentioned his 'ABBA News', in today's Double Page spread. Nor has he got the Weekly 'Bizarre' Editor - Simon Boyle - to mention it in his Monday to Friday 'Bizarre' Column. Dan mentioned the 'ABBA News' on his Twitter Page on Tuesday March 5th - but he has not mentioned it since. I don't know Dan, but I don't like a lot of the things that he writes. He can come across as very arrogant and unkind. He is not liked. Just look at the Digital Spy Forums Thread devoted just to Dan...Almost all of it negative forums.digitalspy.com/discussion/2256241/dan-wootton Now Gorel Hanser - ABBA's long time friend - has been asked to comment on Dan's ABBA claims' She has told the ABBA Intermezzo Site this: Thursday March 7, 2019 "Special thanks to Görel Hanser, ABBA's management, who told us that they have no comments about Björn mentioning to Dan Wootton that he and Benny are writing new songs for ABBA. Görel told us that the release info will be posted on ABBA's social media in due course". Which neither agrees with Dan's claims, nor dismisses them. So we are no wiser, as to what ABBA are planning...
