I take your point, gamleman , about a sense of community, and it's a good one. But I think it can work with specific threads and, say, an "ABBA General Discussion" thread. Of course, as per usual, more contributors would help!

On a completely separate tangent, I've noticed a few people say that Frida's voice comes out stronger on the album than Agnetha's does. Which I can see but I think it's more complex than that. To start with I was astonished at just how little their voices had changed over four decades. But now I've 'assimilated' their Voyage tracks with their previous songs, I notice the differences more. Their voices still blend beautifully, but at a lower average tone than they used to do. I think the highest harmonies throughout the album (excluding Just A Notion for obvious reasons) are in the chorus of I Still Have Faith In You and the very end of No Doubt About It and Bumblebee. Otherwise their tone is more like what they used in songs like Fernando and Knowing Me Knowing You compared to, say, Mamma Mia or Dancing Queen. And at that tone Frida's voice comes through more - that's why on songs like Little Things and When You Danced With Me you could be forgiven for thinking it's Frida double tracked. That's also a big part of what I like about Ode to Freedom. Frida and Agnetha stand in complete contrast to each other in a way they didn't much before (apart from Money Money Money and similar tracks) - Frida's voice has a great earthy tone while Agnetha's almost sounds like a ghostly wail. Take either voice away and the song loses a huge chunk of power. And although not the strongest song, I simply adore Agnetha's lead in I Can Be That Woman, lilting back and forth between the high tones of the 70s and lower notes you didn't hear much before. And Frida is still able to throw in some gorgeous backing vocals. One final point I'm sure no one else cares about but me - I love the symmetry of the vocals. Discounting Just A Notion, there are 3 joint leads, 3 Frida leads and 3 Agnetha leads. That makes me happier than it probably should! I agree. Think when they sang in higher register Agnetha’s voice was more prominent, I recall Gary Barlow saying that “Agnetha was the voice of ABBA, that’s it, that’s the sound.” While that quote annoyed me somewhat, I get it now, though as the aforementioned Money Money Money and Fernando, I would also add The Visitors here, where Frida is at forefront. On Voyage that sound has Frida’s tone more prominent, but I love it when they go from one to another: in the line “we do have it in us!” I suddenly heard Agnetha’s beautiful tone beaming through! And at the end of No Doubt About It, it mixes Frida lines and Agnetha lines with the former’s “no doubt about it!” To Agnetha’s “this isn’t where it ends!” When I anticipated the new album and friends would ask me if I was looking forward to it, and I just said I wanted to hear Frida & Agnetha sing together again. My dream came true! Voyage is certainly that, a Voyage, a Journey, a new discovery.

I think that was a silly thing for Gary Barlow to say. I remember reading an article in the 70s that claimed it was Frida's voice that gave ABBA their sound. It is, of course, the combination of their voices, along with the production techniques. Probably Frida's voice is required for the extreme sharpness in ABBA harmonies though. I would say that Frida's voice is more versatile (even stronger) than Agnetha's, but to me Agnetha's is more attractive and conveys emotion better.

Pronunciation and Accents.
I think maybe those unhappy with this discussion might be non-native English speakers and feel us native English speakers are 'having a go' or mocking. This is not the case. We are all ABBA fans.
I pointed out differences in Agnetha's and Frida's singing English vs spoken English. There is nothing new about this. Even Adele who is English sounds very different singing to her natural North London accent.
I only noticed a couple of mispronuciations in ABBA songs (from Frida who is actually more fluent than Agnetha in spoken English). Some people noticed more.
And yes, they are going to have Swedish accents - however fluent they are.
It is also a fair point that perhaps a pronuciation error should have been picked up before release.
There are 3 components to speaking English - fluency, accuracy and pronunciation. I feel Agnetha is more focussed on pronunciation and this holds back fluency. Whereas Frida is more fluency driven and more prone to make mistakes.
Benny and Bjorn have mastered all parts as I have no doubt they have had much more exposure and experience of spoken English. Even there, Benny's English is more American and perhaps Bjorn's has a bit more British - but with American influences too

I am not fussed about the topics of conversation. It is all the more interesting to read other members' comments on all things ABBA. Agnetha and Frida's voices are indeed a little more mature but they both can still sing beautifully. It is the hint of the Nordic accent in their pronunciation of certain words which I find very appealing and enchanting. Their command of the English language is excellent. Even if they mis-pronounce a certain word here and there, I find it charming. Each to one's own. From what I can gather about the forthcoming concert set song list it is very interesting as Tony pointed out. Let's hope all these songs will feature in the show. Let's not forget there were a lot of great songs that ABBA never performed live. Good work Johnny, for posting the You Tube commentary.

This Thread, My Opinion.
The following are fine, in my opinion.
1. A General ABBA thread (note ABBA and not just Free For All). In which any ABBA-related topic discussed.
2. Separate threads for different topics about ABBA. This reverts to being about Voyage and people can post other topics elsewhere. This is my preferred option but option 1 is ok.
What I think is not on is this:
3. This thread a General ABBA thread but people saying "you can't talk about this ABBA topic, or that ABBA topic". This is where we are now. If you don't like a topic, then scroll past.
I believe my comments to be fair.

Yes, I’d say that’s a fair post, johnny. I separated the Eurovision posts out because they were nothing to do with ABBA. I nearly did the same with the Roxette posts. People come to this topic to discuss Voyage-related stuff mainly, and secondary ABBA in general. I’d prefer it if everyone did start new topics to discuss non-Voyage but I don’t think that’s going to happen! To keep it ABBA-related is fair though. Not everyone is interested in either Eurovision or Roxette or whatever but everyone on here is into ABBA. Anyone is welcome to start new topics. There’s going to be no draconian “you should have gone through eight years’ worth of topics and seen that this has been done before, then bumped the related topic rather than starting a new one” nonsense. Oh, the ghosts of a previous forum… *shudders*

Although I don't like how this thread has become a grab-bag for everything vaguely ABBA-related, I do think this forum ought to be rigorously streamlined.
Here's a couple of ideas:
An "ABBA General Discussion" thread - ABBA random thoughts, if you will. This thread would go in the 'ÀBBA The Group' section. News, hairstyles, thoughts on their personalities, etc, A plethora of the ad-hoc and miscellaneous; pretty freewheeling stuff related to ABBA.
More or less, keep discussion of their music to - guess what? - 'ABBA The Music'. Here would go a couple of threads: "Voyage - the album"; and "Voyage - the show".
I'm by no means suggesting tight, unwavering adherence to these categories, just a bit more neatness, imo.

I'm guilty of introducing Roxette but it started with the dreadful rumoured title for one of the two unreleased ABBA songs, which I had to compare with those equally awful Roxette lyrics. I then moved from lyrics to accents, including ABBA's. So, it wasn't all about Roxette, but probably more than it should have been. I think it should be acceptable to relate ABBA to the outside world and other artists, as long as we don't go completely off at a tangent and start discussing those things to the exclusion of ABBA, which is probably what happened with the Eurovision discussion.
I will try to make an effort to contribute to other threads, although I'm no longer in the habit of browsing this forum and I tend to just react to things raised in this thread - laziness, I know.

I've tried in the past to post things in the appropriate thread only to find someone posting the same thing in this thread a day later. I wasn't upset or anything, I've probably done it myself on occasion. I would happily contribute to whatever thread, anything to keep things running smoothly. I did think it might entail a lot of work for our moderator but there doesn't seem to be any problems here in the main so if everyone is happy to make new threads, Eurovision or whatever, if I have something to say, I'll seek it out. It's not exactly difficult if you check 'most recent' posts (that's what I always do).
Going back to Voyage, I do have a hope that WIKTT and Angeleyes are included. The former gives me more joy than even Dancing Queen and Angeleyes is perfection- it's SO good. Whenever I hear it I wonder how any fan could think Just Like That is as good as this? It's truly marvellous. I genuinely believe some fans don't appreciate what we already have. Over-familiarity, I guess.
I'm thinking the Agnetha/Frida voice thing will run to eternity. I think it's barmy. They're incredibly compatible, almost impossible to distinguish when singing together and yet so different! Therein lies the magic. They are both uniquely talented and we are lucky to have them. I could shout it from the rooftops- "BOTH were essential to the ABBA sound!" and while it's fine to have a favourite, it's so silly to pitch one against the other- not to mention pointless and disrespectful. Such a waste of energy.
And on that note, I'll get off my high horse.
Further to Voyage the concert, I'm absolutely TERRIFIED that I'm going to make a tit of myself. I'm so worried emotion will get the better of me. It's no exaggeration to say that ABBA'S music has always meant so much to me and continues to do so. I just hope I can keep it together. I know it sounds dramatic but it's a very real fear. I'll be surrounded by other fans, I will have suspended my disbelief, it will be a dream come true in many ways. I just don't want to be crying like a fool, even if they're happy tears.

I have to agree,^^ it’s frustrating, I instigated Eurovision and Alan moved to its own thread where it has now died a death, I’m ok with that not everyone’s cup of tea, so yes I skip many discussions, not interested in Lyrics, I wonder why people collect so many of the same, but hey hey each to their own. It’s true even though over 600 members now still only a handful participate, so general discussion it seems to be.. our go to thread... Skipping discussions can work as long as you come here often (every day). As it is, there's sometimes just too much going on in this "general" thread and personally I must admit that I often refrain from commenting on something that was said three or four pages of back, because I feel the discussion has moved on since then. But I would gladly add something if it was a thread of its own. Also new members have chance of continuing with old topics they're interested in. And it's definitely easier to avoid threads you're not interested in than skipping posts in the general thread. Good example is the ranking of ABBA's albums - people keep posting it here now and then, while there is a similar thread: abbachat.com/thread/1456/top-albums. If everybody did it in a separate thread, it would be easy to find each other's rankings and compare them. When they're buried under hundreds of posts here, nobody will ever be able to see them again.

I don't think you need to feel guilty, the Roxette "detour" was related to a few posts in the general discussion and didn't go too far. But I will gladly discuss them in a separate thread in the "related artists" section any time :-)

Apart from that, there is some dispute in the reviews as to whether it is really the German concert or the Wembley concert. However, two reviewers comment on the good sound quality and it would be interesting to know whether it's better than the Wembley CD of 2014. My understanding is that the CD is an unofficial reissue of this: www.discogs.com/release/6596574-ABBA-In-Concert-221 - so a Wembley recording and from the same night as the Live at Wembley CD.

Oh, if it's that one, that'll be the one I have on cassette somewhere, recorded from the original broadcast on BBC Radio 2 around Christmas 1979, a good quality stereo recording from FM. That was the first time I heard a 1979 concert.

Yeah, there are way too many sub-forums here. On other similar sites, you'd have one to discuss the act in question generally, one to discuss live appearances, then one for music by other acts and one for random non-musical discussions. A much better set-up I think... Maybe some of the board could be thinned down? Maybe a number of us would opt for a much more streamlined ABBAChat forum - a clearer, cleaner, more readily navigable site?
Although I don't really like how this particular thread has developed, it does indicate how topics can be subsumed into a larger thread. This chunking is the key, I think, to eliminating so many subcategories.
I think the structure of the site could go something like this:
1. ABBA The Group: General Discussion, Photos ... 2. ABBA The Music, including the Voyage album and show; covers ... 3. NON-ABBA/All Other: other artists, random thoughts ... 4. Administrative
These might be the the four categories, eliminating specific mention of subcategories for this, that and the other. If the above doesn't appeal, any other ideas? Or just keep it as it is?
If a redoing of the forum was met with general approval, presumably Alan would contact admin, Roxanne, to see if she agreed?

For those who are interested, the ABBA Voyage store is having a sale. The reduced items include the CD singles (at £1.99) and the vinyl picture-discs as well as the green and white vinyl (same on the Sound Of Vinyl site). I think this indicates that ABBA releases are not truly limited, unless a number is given from the outset. The orange vinyl from Amazon has run out and maybe the blue vinyl from independent stores too (although there is no real way of knowing).
If this site were to be revamped, it may involve a significant amount of work from someone and may not be totally feasible - I imagine it would be at least a messy job. I don't think we can expect Alan to undertake this work, unless he is willing and able.

Smooth Top 500 2022 this weekend. So far Abba have 5 between 401 and 500. Those being Waterloo, KMKY, TDBYC, Mamma Mia and IHAD. Wonder if DSMD or ISTHFIY will feature.

Watching Bobby's brother video on the song list for Voyage he said one of the songs the could be sung is The Visitors. How great would it be to hear that live it was not a song on my list so it was a shock, but I would love to hear it live.

A photo that showed a setlist was put on instagram but very quickly removed and edited, but it apparently clearly showed The Visitors as one of the song titles. It can’t be live in terms of vocals, but the rest of it might be. It will certainly sound different.

It is a fair point… I’d love to redesign it a bit and streamline it. However, I don’t think I have the permissions to. When I first became moderator I did have a look at what I could do. I wanted to create a board specifically for Voyage topics but couldn’t. The boards that are there now were all created in 2014 by Roxanne in anticipation that they would be needed. Some of them have barely been used (the ones for each album, for instance).
I’ll have a look sometime. If it’s an admin-only function, I can ask Roxanne.
Any preferences? We definitely need something for Voyage. If it was in keeping with other albums, there would be a board for the album and another for the shows (in the Tours board). However, as Voyage has happened/is happening in the real-time of this forum and not something historical, might be better to have one Voyage board with everything (album and shows) in it? What does everyone think?

OK, so Roxanne has given me the permissions to create, amend and delete boards. To start with, I have created a Voyage board. This is directly under ABBA in the forum headings. I have gone through the entire forum and moved all Voyage-related topics to the new board (including this one). There are 20 topics so far, but some are quite old and relate to a time when we knew very little.
Hope this is OK with everyone. If you navigate the forum by going into specific boards, topics will have vanished. I’d highly recommend people use the “view recent posts” or “view recent topics” - in mobile view, these are quite easy to find.
On another note, I asked Roxanne if she’d heard from Mike / Zeebee (the other moderator). Apparently his email address is no longer valid and he isn’t on Facebook (not sure if he ever was though). Really doesn’t sound good but we’ve no way of finding out more.

Wow, Alan, that looks like a lot of work. Pour yourself a stiff drink: you've earned it. Thanks, though I’m going to a barbecue tonight and driving, so your suggestion won’t be possible! I’ve edited the post - do something in haste and end up doing it twice! I had initially set up the new board under “ABBA The Music” but this buried it a bit, and wasn’t accurate if we’re including topics about the shows. I then set up another board directly under the “ABBA” heading but that meant moving the topics again! It is now quite prominent though, so hopefully no one can miss it. I’ve also created locked topics in News and The Music to announce where the Voyage posts have gone.

If anyone wasn’t sure what I meant, here is how the menu looks in mobile view. ABBA Voyage is at the top of the ABBA section. I even experimented with setting up a whole ABBA Voyage section but that would have meant setting up boards under it. Some sections can go - ABBA Calendar, for example, only has a few topics in it, and they could all be moved elsewhere. Anything in it really isn’t important enough to have its own section.
