Johnny , there are only a few of us that like stats..lol, it’s an age thing with me... However, do you happen to know total sales for each single release.....
Ironically, I’ve never been able to get those figures from HOH onwards either....

Have you noticed that the tables and the text contradict each other?
I’m sure you’re right that some sales are missing. It’s unlikely that MMM’s sales are that low, considering it spent four weeks at number three (in three separate runs) over the peak Christmas period.

This will divide opinion! LOL, you're not wrong. It's... uhm... interesting? The central idea is nice: to-camera performances drenched in intense light that masks age (to some degree). It'd be nice if the original video had included a moment where the real ABBA had performed to camera. So I can see where this idea is going. If the ordinary punter can do this on a home computer now, how long before technology lets us knock together much more convincing attempts?

I was making a playlist up on Apple Music of 50 ABBA songs celebrating 50 years of Abba, I was wondering what to call it, and I thought I’d take the first word from the first ABBA song, and the last word from the final ABBA song (on Voyage.) and I called it ABBA-People Sing, which I thought was lovely.

undertheappletree thank you for the update, wouldn't have looked at the Voyage merchandise as I wasn't expecting anything new for sale just yet. Profile poster and T shirt design are fantastic, same applies to the colourful lanyard.

Heading back to the earlier discussion about what might be released for mark the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision win. Am I right in thinking that only some of the Dick Cavett live tracks have been released? Six, I think? It'd be cool if they included the set as part of an anthology. It might even work as the basis for a live disc that could include a couple of the Voyage reworkings or any of the 1977 tracks that could be salvaged. I don't imagine that an entirely live set would be that satisfying/popular, but it could be a great addition to an anthology. Pretty sure video footage for all six songs exists too. Tart it all up please, Mr. Universal, and take my money.
The Dick Cavett performances: GGG / ST / TFTPOO / STMF / MAI / OAOAO / KMKY / SNC / TYFTM

Anyone been to or intend to go the Mamma Mia - the party? The Mamma Mia/restaurant experience at the 02.
I have read a lot of positive reviews. But the prices start from £153! That is really expensive.
I've seen a lot of TV ads for it recently but maybe that's just the London/Home Counties area.

That's £99 plus a 10% booking charge for the cheapest tier.

U OK hun? _________________ I wonder if he's stolen a march on CMP's forthcoming book. Apparently, it has a Complete Recording Sessions type chapter devoted to Voyage. Interesting that the published photos have such detailed metadata. Sleuthing gets a bit easier! Now if only he could dig up some detail on the unreleased material.

That Bobby’s Brother YouTube piece is interesting, and seems well researched. Looking at the chronology of the songs, it seems to me that Benny was having trouble filling an album. Essentially, with the exception of Bumblebee, the songs were getting worse and worse.

This is what I think. The first two songs are really good and it goes downhill after that.
The next best two songs NDAI and OTF were probably recorded in 2019.
By 2021 they were scraping the barrel with the re-hashed Just a Notion and Little Things in particular.
Commercially an album was necessary. Just having the first two songs as singles wasn't viable.
That said there are some good songs on it and I am glad it did well. But as you say Gary, Benny was struggling to deliver the goods.

In lieu of an express preference indicated, I think he/him might fairly safely be assumed on the basis of username chosen (isolating and adopting that particular part of a song title for a name suggests a hint of casual self-identification at play somewhere along the line).

I have no complaints about the album, waiting 40 years for another one, and, hoping they would return. I feel very blessed with this album. I think the songs are equal to their 70’s output. A typical ABBA album, very varied with few fillers. I’m not a sycophant, few ABBA songs I’m not keen on (I do and VV spring to mind.) As it’s spring, I’m getting right into Bumblebee, lovely track with hope and dread wrapped up together.

I wonder how much compromise was needed from all four members to get Voyage across the line? From the women's perspective I would imagine that fair and equal vocal representation might have been important. But what about song style? I could be wrong, but my guess is that Benny held the lion's share of the power here. Even so, the importance of making the set as "ABBAesque" as possible must have been a criterion. I wonder how ABBAesque the two unreleased songs are? Did Benny have to bite his lip at all, and return to a pop sound that he had mostly abandoned over the last couple of decades?

I think I Still Have Faith In You bests When All Is Said And Done and is pretty well the equal of One Man, One Woman, to pick out two old songs that can be thematically related to ISHFIY, but I struggle to think of anything else on Voyage that attains the quality of the best of the heyday stuff, or that gets close. I think Bjorn's Voyage lyrics are too mannered and descriptive/scene-setting (it as though he thinks the fussiness and archness of The Day Before You Came and I Am The City represents the high-water mark of his ability, rather than the deceptively prosaic, complex spareness of Knowing Me, Knowing You or The Name Of The Game), and I think that for whatever reason (doing musicals, re-immersing himself in Scandinavian folk and trad. or whatever) Benny's pop mojo has lost power.

I understand that, but it’s true art, like Kate Bush, their songwriting has matured and perhaps drifted away from their heyday of Take A Chance On Me or Dancing Queen . In those days they said themselves they immersed themselves in the Top 40 of UK and US charts. Benny said that today they did not do that and just did what satisfied themselves. I did follow Benny’s output since Abba, whether it’s the BAO stuff, Kristina etc. The Voyage material is a continuation of that in my book.

In short it was fantastic, only real complaint was the vegetarian main was a tad disappointing. But everything else was so good you didn't really care about that anyway.

I agree. The scene-setting is more prominent on Agnetha leads - Don't Shut Me Down amd Keep and Eye on Dan. The former has a brilliant, catchy Abbaesque chorus but is also very storytelling/scene setting. I think Frida comes out best on the album. The contrasting styles of ISHFIY and DNAI and on joint vocals like OTF and WYDWM it's her voice that is dominant

Geeky UK sales news...
Voyage I told you a few weeks back failed to make the Year End Top 100 so less than 65k in 2022. It didn't make the Physical Year End Top 20, so less than 46k on CD/Vinyl. The Sales only chart mean nothing when sales are so low...
Gold Greatest Hits sales figures for 2022 with 2021 in brackets.
Total: 198,000 (178,000) Physicsl: 34,000 (46,000) Download 7,000 (6,000) Stream Equivalent 157,000 (126,000)
ABBA do well on streaming...mainly for the classic hits, not Voyage or wider bavk catalogue.

I have to disagree Johnny. I think the songs that Frida got are a bit meh. The Agnetha leads are getting far more streams. Her storytelling is out of this world.
