Yep, a lot of work did seem to go into the first two singles. Remember they were recorded first in 2017 and we were told about them in April 2018.
Was I the only one thinking "when are they going to be released"? I certainly didn't think it would take over 3 years from the announcement to release.
I feel JAN didn't give a good impression for Voyage. A discarded track not fit for an album in 1979 but fine for their comeback album in 2021...and to make it worse a single too! WYDWM, NDAI and KAEOD would all have been better choices.

Yes, and the album notes state Just A Notion as being recorded 1978 and 2021. Only the JAN single notes state 2017 to 2021, which I take to be incorrect. I think we can surmise that more work went into I Still Have Faith In You and Don’t Shut Me Down than we might have thought. They wouldn’t have time to do as much work on the other songs, and as they wouldn’t be part of the show and wouldn’t be the first singles, they were seen as less important. If one of the the incomplete songs was from 2019, it would suggest it wasn’t considered good enough or wasn’t worth the amount of work needed. I accept that the 2021 date is more accurate in terms of when "Just A Notion" was reworked, which would also indicate it was perhaps last-minute filler (without newly recorded vocals) due to time constraints. Yet it was released as a single? Most peculiar.

April Fool. From ABBA Access:
The ‘Voyage’ saga continues! 🤩
It has been reported that ABBA will be releasing ‘Voyage - Deluxe Edition’ to celebrate the two years of their last album, with FOUR more tracks!
This edition will be promoted by one and final single - ‘Hit By A Train’.
But the exciting news do not end here - The ABBA Voyage band are currently working on a live album for the show and it’s planned to be released after the London arena ends its stay in the big city.
Let the voyage continue! 💫

I believed it for a few minutes, apparently ignoring the “check the date” line, then someone reminded me it’s April 1st, and this was posted this morning. Damn.)

Alan, this is fantastic news. I look forward to hearing more forthcoming information. Are you sure it isn't a cruel April 1 Fool's joke ? Am I the first victim to be taken in ? I hope not !

Yes, Ed, I’m afraid. I forgot the the date for a minute and believed it myself. I was so quick to post it on here that I initially put “Are our dreams about to come true?” Not sure if you may have replied to my original post and you posted your reply while I was editing it. Some of the comments in ABBA Access’s post weren’t too happy, and I can understand that. Something silly like ABBA Voyage dolls - complete with Tron outfits - going on sale might have been amusing but something like this much less so.

I have never bought doll memorabilia before, but the Voyage outfits - Tron and the white/gold outfits in particular - are already iconic. They'd be a tempting set. Maybe a set of Waterloo dollies too?

Hi - just wondering if we need all these 'Abba Voyage General Discussion' threads (with their different dates) cluttering up this page? Would it be better to put the older ones elsewhere, so we can see other topics more clearly?

Would it be better to put the older ones elsewhere, so we can see other topics more clearly? I separated it because the main topic was getting so big. Obviously they’re part of the Voyage section so no where else I can put them. If anyone posted in the other older topics it would bump them up, and move the old General Discussion ones further down. It’s still possible to see the full list though: abbachat.boards.net/board/85/abba-voyage

Apologies , I couldn’t find the thread I’d initially put the following facts in, or just gave up.. Due to no real news at present, mainly speculation,...
A little update for those who find it of an interest..
Gold in the UK, after the first 3 months, Gold has sold in the region of 4-4500 k steadily each week, has not been outside of the top 20 best selling albums and has reached a high of 10 ( twice ) .
Therefore at present it has sold 56k plus and is currently the 10th biggest selling album for 2023.
Just to link it in with Voyage, probably the show , Gold is unlikely to be withdrawn anytime soon, so any new compilation including Voyage tracks is going to have to be something special for the record companies to produce, release..as really not worth it as sales numbers are so low.. Voyage sells Gold and vice versa...

ForeverFan, Gold looks like it will pass the 21x platinum (6.3 million) sales in the UK early next month.
For those, not chart geeks like me and ForeverFan (and Onlyabba4meagain) when a song is streamed it counts as "sales" not just for the song itself, but towards its original Studio album AND one nominated Best Of. Gold is ABBA's nominated Best Of, so that's why it is still doing well in the charts.
I doubt ABBA/Universal will replace this nomination with a new compilation. A new compilation may well be released but I would imagine streaming stats will go towards Gold and not any new album.
What type of new compilation? A Definitive Collection type with the 2 first Voyage songs and well known (now) album tracks like Slipping Through My Fingers? A Thank You For the Music type box set? Or a Rarities/Anthology? Maybe one or more and maybe none.
I will, however, predict sales will be low and would only be hardcore fans buying. For casual and younger fans who stream, my guess is they'd be still streaming the Gold tracks and won't be interested in anything else.
ABBA's fanbase is wide but not deep.
Wide, just look at the sales of Gold and box office for Mamma Mia!. ABBA have fans that cut across class, culture and generations.
Not Deep, ABBA have never been big sellers of their back catalogue. Once a studio album left the charts that was mainly it. The Live albums flopped, The Box sets weren't big sellers and I doubt an Anthology would break this cycle. Any "new" compilation as I said already would be just for hardcore fans.

I bumbed into this young reactor who-as he said-he's a new Abba fan and mainly since 2021 because of the Voyage album after his getting hooked on DSMD!He was aware of the big hits but the VOYAGE album he fell deep into the rabbit hole digging their discography.I was impressed that he mainly did lots of deep cuts (Amongst others Intermezzo,Pick a bale of cotton Medley,Ricky rock n roller,The king has lost his crown,Two for the price of one.Hamlet 1,2,etc) and reacted with an unbelievably great enthusiasm, knowing words by heart and stuff and acting mad on them with all of his youthful energy. This is one of his last reacted song on which he got stunned and very emotional while listening to 'Like an angel passing through my room'.So glad to see younger gens feeling same way we did then.At least they can now enjoy Abba's legacy without being that afraid to be kinda 'rejected' compared to the way we got back then.Abba is rather cool today and rather pathetic to be slagged off.Cheers everyone and plz excuse my English.https://youtu.be/Ke9InNCd-MM

I've just discovered these piano solo versions of Little Things and Bumblebee - the two least liked, or even disliked, songs on the Voyage album - that, for me, reveal how lovely the melodies really are. With other lyrics and arrangements, perhaps these songs would have received much greater approval.
Divested of its Christmas lyrics and done a bit faster with an elegant arrangement, I bet it would have sounded great!
With lyrics about a human relationship, and with an instrumentation of possibly a clarinet, harp, and subtle string quartet, I think this song could have been outstanding.
I'm sure there are many who like these songs just as they are on the album, but I'm with those who feel they could have been done differently, and better, and highlighted Frida's singing more advantageously.
Indeed, there seems to be some of us in agreement about the Voyage album generally: misgivings about the arrangements and the mixing and overall sound.

It's just the twee/cliched lyrics that make it unlistenable (to me). Never had a problem with Bumble Bee. Would give it a solid 7/10. Melody just feels a little slight.

Well, those two piano solo examples obviously didn't convince you much, if at all, bennybjorn , about how good I think the melodies to LT and B are! "Decent enough" (LT) and "Melody just feels a little slight" (B). Talk about damning with faint praise!

Just saying that I always thought it was only the words that were the problem with Little Things - music is fine. And I always liked Bumble Bee anyway. Not an amazing song but definitely in my top half of the Voyage album. Look forward to hearing these piano versions when I'm home later.

I found it fascinating to listen to this North American guy, who was only a casual fan of ABBA's singles when he heard them on the radio, and who never bought their records in the 70s, dive into their music recently for the first time ever and listened to ABBA's nine albums. He wrote notes on each track and discusses his first impressions of every song on every album, and, based on his reactions, ranks all the albums from 9 to 1.
Quite a few surprises here!
It was refreshing and really interesting to hear the opinion of an outsider, someone who wasn't a full-on ABBA fan, but who could still appreciate ABBA's talent and excellent body of work.
It's long, but well worth a listen with a cup of tea or two over a lazy weekend afternoon.
I hope some will enjoy it as much as I did.

I really like those two piano solos of Little Things and Bumblebee, whereas I am not at all keen on those songs on Voyage. I wonder why that is. In the case of Little Things, I can’t abide the lyrics, but the same is not true of Bumblebee.

Thanks for posting those clips, richard , they're really lovely. It definitely underlines my personal feelings about Bumblebee - that a much barer arrangement would emphasise its beauty even more. I agree that lyrics about a human relationship would elevate it even further. Little Things is pretty too. I share some of bennybjorn 's misgivings about the lyric. Another storyline/setting against this melody could be fantastic. The melody does still seem to have something icy and wintry (in a good way) about it, so I can kind of understand Bjorn's instinct to envisage a Christmas morning setting. Both tunes seem to share that same classical melodic DNA that's at the heart of ISHFIY and OTF.

Change of topic.
Spotify streaming numbers for Voyage
1. DSMD 64.7m 2. ISHFIY 41.8m 3. LT 23.4m 4. JAN 19.2m 5. WYDWM 16.4m
6. KAEOD 12.0m 7. ICBTW 11.5m 8. BB 9.8m 9. OTF 7.0m 10. NDAI 6.8m 212.6 milliion
The top two get half the streams.
LT does better than I thought
First 5 all "Side 1" songs Next 5 all Side 2 songs. Similar to overall running order. Poor NDAI.

I have deleted a fair few posts. Basically anything from Eddie’s post where he said what he did, and the aftermath of that.
As a reminder (and I’m as guilty of this as anyone else as I made a suggestion in one of my posts that I shouldn’t have), this is a public forum and anyone can see it. Discussion of personal issues, even if instigated by a member themselves, isn’t really what this forum is for, and shouldn’t be open to all and sundry to read.

A very good friend has just told me that Zoe Ball ( UK radio 2, who interviewed B&B on Voyage ) Has just played DQ and then revealed that she loves playing ABBA , and is off to an exciting meeting later....
What that means who knows but speculation will be rife....
