They've mixed the vocals perfectly here. Frida and Agnetha's voices are equal in volume, harmonising perfectly, and the listener needs only focus their attention on one or the other voice at any one moment to hear either voice (Agnetha's or Frida's). For example, if you focus on hearing Frida's vocal, you will hear only her, and vice versa for Agnetha's voice. The blend of both their voices is perfect!
All in all, the producers did a brilliant job!
Get ready for a bouncy, wonderfully jubilant song!

It's just soooo joyful!
This is a song that will cheer up the grumpiest person. It's a zippy little rocket-ship of a ditty, a surefire cure for anyone who's feeling down.
And that outro section can be taken once again as ABBA talking to us about themselves and their new album: "In a moment the dream is about to come true!"
I can see it becoming an instant dance-floor classic!

I’ve heard it. Don’t ask me where as I don’t know, someone sent it me. The opening piano reminded me of “remember-member-member what a womble-womble-womble you are”. And apparently I’m not the only person that thought that. From there it could only get better. The vocals in parts are similar to the version we already knew. It does sound like some effects (Auto-Tune?) have been added to the last two lines (which aren’t in the lyrics someone posted on here a while back). I’m not sure at the moment. I was never a fan of it originally. It feels like a complete version of what we already know. What they’ve done to it doesn’t change it drastically in my opinion. Plenty of piano though. You might be surprised you'll like it once you hear it properly. And loudly! Personally, I never thought I could like it, but now I love it!
I'm quite sure there's no auto-tune there, they sing the last two lines "I think it's more than a notion/In a moment the dream is about to come true!" in falsetto, in much the same way as they sang some parts of You Owe Me One (i.e, "Look what you've done. I'm missing all the fun -I miss all the fuuuun- <--- that bold italicised texted bit) in falsetto. Though I could be wrong. But it does sound like it's the girls' falsetto voices in that very high closing sequence.

I am looking forward to staying up until midnight to hear the new single JAN. From some of your comments it promises to be a " banger ".

I'm looking forward to hearing Just A Notion at the stroke of midnight here in the UK. I have (had?) some reservations- mainly because it's a song from so long ago that didn't really impress me too much but I'm always happy to be proven wrong. I've read a few people complaining that Frida is too hidden in the mix? For those that have already heard the song, would you say this is true? I can't imagine there'll be any problem with it- the group will have gone to great lengths to make it just right, I'm sure.

It's a banger alright! It's so much fun!! Quite retro, but in a modern way. And the piano in the last 40 or so seconds is so cute!

I can hear Frida as well as I can hear her in Chiquitita, in the sense that you can hear her voice as clearly as Agnetha's, in a kind of contrasting way. It's a perfect mix. And a few times, their 1978 voices are sooo high in this. That metallic screaming sound they sometimes make in the highest parts of Dancing Queen appears here a few times (but only for the briefest of moments) when they really push themselves up. Remember, this was recorded back in the days when Benny used to piss them off with "Can you do that again but just a bit higher this time?" requests. (Back when they all got on really well and he was bold enough to push them so much! haha!)
All the new instrumental overdubs added to the track are wonderful! Softer and rounder than what you hear on the Undeleted 1994 demo track. It's nice and smooth.

I love this burst of positive energy! Roll on midnight, when I plan to have a little kitchen boogie.
The idea that Frida is as clear as she is on Chiquitita is good: from the point when Agnetha's solo passage finishes, it effectively becomes a two-hander, with Frida singing very prominent countermelodies in the chorus. Can I take it that this is a return to the beloved third voice?

We'll all be boogie-ing with you in your kitchen later - in spirit - Tony! I'll be banging on a frypan! You can grab an empty bottle and hit it with a spoon as we dance around wildly. Play it as loudly as you can and dance the rest of the night away!

I find that very encouraging! It appears to be what I hoped for: making good what seemed, essentially, joint vocals song from Agnetha and Frida all those years ago. Thanks for the positive details, jj. So looking forward to hearing it more than ever now!

I've just heard it too, couldn't wait till midnight so I tried to fool YouTube with VPN and it worked What I should say... a fine track but I'm not over-impressed. I guess it will be better when I hear it through proper speakers with the volume up - I was able tu fully appreciate I Still Have Faith In You and Don't Shut Me Down only when I received my CD-singles too. The intro really sounds like a cross between Waterloo and Why Did It Have To Be Me. Then it gets better, the vocals are really good, but I'm quite convinced they are the originals from the 70s. Maybe they have done some overdubs and mixed them together, however most of what we hear was recorded back then, I think. I supposed the final line in the outro is new and that's why it's treated the way it is - they needed to conceal the 40 years time between them.

I'm starting to think it's a kind of "Frankie Valley and The Four Seasons"-style tribute, those two lines delivered in falsetto (when they sing "I think it's more than a notion/In a moment the dream is about to come true!"), but I'm getting tired now so I'm probably just getting carried away a bit!

I compared listens on both Youtube and Spotify, and Spotify has a much better, fuller sound quality for me, using my Sony headphones. I hear more audio detail on Spotify. I love the Agnetha and Frida choir that builds up briefly for just a couple of seconds with "IIIIIIIIIIII - I think it's more than a notion"

'Just A Notion' is absolutely fantastic and it would definitely fit on a re-issue of 'Voulez Vous' why on earth this song was not released in 1994 absoloutely baffles me its wonderful and to finally hear ABBA sing that first verse and first chorus that was edited out of the undeleted medley at long last is amazing.

Just a Notion
I have heard it now.
It's ok. That's it. Nothing special. Not a patch on the last two singles.
Certainly not single material. I hope the remaining 7 songs on Voyage I haven't heard yet are much better.

New to this forum. Just listened to JAN and I really like it. A fun upbeat album track. In my opinion with the way the charts are I do not think that this single whatever it was, would increase sales of the album. The launch was big enough so people who will want the album will already have decided to buy it.

^ Welcome to the forum.
I agree. It won't increase sales of the album. And will be a flop. So what was the point of putting it out?

OK, I'm on my third listen now. YouTube has the worst sound, iTunes the best.
I love the drive and bounce of the track and have a feeling it'll soundtrack many a family party - and I'm willing to bet it'll turn up behind a jive sequence on Strictly. The vocal mix sounds quite muddy to my ears. The instrumentation almost overwhelms the vocals in the verses. Plus, it doesn't sound very much like ABBA. I think some people might have to have it pointed out to them, in a way they wouldn't have to with, say, DSMD. The diversity of style on Voyage is pretty insane already!
It's very joyful and catchy and makes me want to shake my moneymaker round the kitchen. I reckon there'll be country covers of this before long.

Just a Notion I have heard it now. It's ok. That's it. Nothing special. Not a patch on the last two singles. I think I was expecting miracles with this. That I would suddenly think it was a great song. I like what they’ve done to it, but it’s still not enough for me. Each time I hear it, I hear things I’d not heard previously. However, this wouldn’t even have made a b-side in the Voulez-Vous era, let alone an album track. Still, it’s over with now, and as you say, we have seven completely new tracks to look forward to.

They've done a grand job mixing Just A Notion. It's a bop. Uplifting, happy...they absolutely know what they're doing. In a way, it already is an ABBA classic. I'm not sure if anyone will agree with me. It's unmistakably 'ABBA'. It's so joyful. It's actually a lovely song. If I was hearing it for the first time I'm sure I'd be crazy about it. I'm annoyed with myself for ever hearing the demo back in the day. Still, this is all gravy...as the saying goes. And we still have the main course to go! This is a starter and luckily I still have a big appetite.
Roll on November 5th (it will be a strange day as it will be the 10 year anniversary of my mum's passing, so...mixed emotions.)
