The range of merch is mind-boggling. I pity the bank balances of any completist who bags the lot! I ordered the box set edition - I'm hoping it'll work nicely alongside the deluxe boxes. I tried ordering the standard black LP and the 7" single but they wouldn't add to my basket. But I reckon they'll be in Tower records anyway.
ABBA got a segment on our national TV news last night and, this morning, Don't Shut Me Down was on the radio.
As for the two familiar song titles, I don't imagine they'll recycle any parts of I Know Him So Well for Bumblebee, so I reckon we have a fully fleshed-out composition to look forward to. I think they always had some affection for Just A Notion. Didn't BAO perform it, or am I imagining things? It feels like a good fit for this album and I have no doubt that it's a completely new recording. Just Like That would have been a fantastic treat but, like Story Of A Heart, it's already out there in official form by other artists. (That said, I wonder if they even considered it?).

I loved the new songs. In my opinion "I Still Have Faith in You" sounds exactly like ABBA should sound like in 2021. Frida's and Agnetha's vocals are a bit lower, softer, more mellow, and mature than forty years ago. The singing was beautiful. The control they had in the lower range was masterful. Frida and Agnetha blended their voices so well. The melody is pure Benny greatness and the lyrics are simple and understated. This is a great song. Way to go ABBA! Nice job representing us old folks. I can't wait for the new album. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!

^^ Agreed. My jaw dropped at some of Frida's low notes! I found the lyrics online this morning and had a go at singing along. It is not an easy sing! For me, the melody is up there with When The Waves Roll Out To Sea. It's a really emotional song.
And Don't Shut Me Down is so different. It has those very direct narrative lyrics that Bjorn became so fond of, setting clearly-imaginable scenes. The way the two voices blend in the chorus is that 100% classic ABBA sound. And the piano flourishes are unmistakable.

My first impressions of "I still have faith in you" is that its mostly Frida singing and compared to her first 10 ABBA years her non-English accent is more noticeable. Her intro to the song mostly accapela sounds very raw but very emotional and sentimental. I still get teary eyed at that part even if I've listened to it multiple times. The video looks like a retrospective of their lives, something like an epilogue, or Coda. Im thrilled to see so many pictures i havent seen before and some are outtakes to the well-known videos. I have to concentrate to hear agnetha in that song.
dont shut me down sounds like Agnetha in "my coloring book" at the start and then becoming "A" later on. In the 40 years ago ABBA , did they do all their backing tracks in their studio recordings? because Dont shut me down doesnt sound like them doing all the backing vocals. voices sound different. Agnetha hides her non-English accent well i think or maybe the uptempo beat prevents me from hearing it.
i was able to preorder from Amazon since the official voyage store and the ABBF store wont mail to my country. its ok im not after all the iterations of the album anyway, will be trying to get tickets for opening night in a few days, i hope the corona virus will be gone by May 2022.

I love the album cover, with just the sun and planet. Very stylish.
I hope the marketing guys don't ruin it, like they did with the VOULEZ VOUS album cover. (With in-yer-face wording: "Features the singles 'CHIQUITITA' and 'DOES YOUR MOTHER KNOW' ")

Good Morning to a more joyous and happier world.. musically at least...
I was thinking of saying something profound to say, but what more could we all really want....Well.. the girls being there ?
Like Alan I had a sleepless night, with internal excitement and also like Alan my cold didn't help..lol...
As thought , its absolutely everywhere in the UK media... the marketing machine has worked......it can only be good.
From my own point of view, and i know its becoming of less interest these days but Id love to see the 10th number one single and Album here in the UK. ISHFIY is currently number 1 in the I-tunes chart and DSMD number 2... it may be all a bit to early to predict today's official chart and if they are in it... Its going to be interesting as Ed Sheeran is out the week before.. new versus old....
Again personally, I'm glad there's a potential Christmas single..lol
As for the tracks, what can i say that hasn't been already said, a slight preference for DSMD , but Ive always preferred the boppier tracks...
What are the 22 tracks going to be in the ABBATARS show ?.. some are a given but it was mentioned a few album tracks, I can see I've Been Waiting For You ( a favourite) and If It Wasn't For The Nights, both have featured in the promotion...
I'm actually a little wordless and what to say and where to start.. Im just enjoying the ride, also great to see more of us participating....

Well... Yesterday, hell kind of froze over, didn't it? Amazing, amazing, amazing. The most emotional moment for me (and it was up against a lot of stiff competition...) was when Benny uttered the confirmation that there'd be a new album. That's all that really matters to me TBH. I'm not bothered about chart positions, sales, the show, or even what the new songs actually sound like. A NEW ABBA ALBUM. Magical words. 40 - for-ty - years on. I keep having to remind myself what that means, in terms of my life and in terms of ABBA's, of course. It all feels like a HUGE thing. Closure. The circle completed with geometrical perfection. Loose ends tied.
And you can add me to the Disturbed Sleep Club. How on Earth could anyone get a decent night's shut-eye after the evening we'd just had? ISHFIY was going round and round in my head and I felt myself welling up every time I thought of that brutally simple but blissfully evocative synth line - you know, the one where you just can't help singing 'I Still Have Faith in You' to yourself, even though it's not actually on the record!
Definite preference for ISHFIY out of the two songs ATM, even though I'm usually an Upbeat Boy! DSMD is a good'un too, make no mistake. Sounds like a significant upgrade of OoU (which I never much cared for) with a dash of TDBYC sprinkled lightly on top. I like the fact that the songs just try to sound like ABBA in 2021 and (a) not like ABBA in 1978 or (b) like anyone else in 2021. They simply tick all the boxes for all of us in the ABBAverse and that's more than good enough for me.
I can definitely see ABBA trying to 'do a Cliff' at Christmas and storm the seasonal airwaves (if not the charts, but you never know...) with 'Little Things'.
Quite incredible. Light overwhelms the gloom - and how often have we been able to say THAT in recent years?

On a lighter note, I also quite like the fact that Bjorn's ABBAtar bears more than a passing resemblance to Nigel Tufnell from Spinal Tap.

Was it said in the live stream that every move the ABBATars make was done by the real ABBA for this project? So what we’re seeing is essentially ABBA now in terms of movement, but just looking well over 40 years younger.
There’s still no word on what the 20 other songs that they perform will be. Studio versions? Live versions where available? It’s not going to be as straightforward as the 19 songs from Gold plus one other. Benny said they wanted to do some lesser-known songs. Under Attack was mentioned so might be in there. I would want Lay All Your Love on Me in it being as there was never a video or TV performance showing them perform it. Similar for Angeleyes but I doubt we’ll get that one.
Still, with over 100 songs in the bank, there’s plenty to choose from for a second show in the future.

On yesterday's live streaming, did anyone notice Bjorn's micro-second reaction to Benny's typical teasing that "Bjorn's the one who loves publicity" jibe? Bjorn's reaction seemed to indicate he wasn't happy with Benny saying that again, that he doesn't find these "joking" put-downs by Benny terribly funny anymore. Benny's continuing lampooning of Bjorn as the ABBA member who loves the spotlight and the more superficial media events now seems to have worn thin with Bjorn. Before he instantly regained his composure, Bjorn's face briefly flickered with a look that showed both slight embarrassment and also that he didn't seem to appreciate Benny's comment.

I imagine they will favour up-tempo songs for a concert, so LAYLOM should be in there... unless they want to minimise movement due to limits on computing power Among the lesser-known songs that B&B like, I have a feeling "I Wonder" will be in there, as it seems to find its way everywhere else. I was surprised that when asked about songs that weren't released as singles but could have been big, they mentioned "The King Has Lost His Crown". In that category, "If It Wasn't For The Nights" would probably have been at the top of my list. And what about "Hasta Manana" in the early days? P.S. Shocking prices being charged for ABBA Voyage albums by re-sellers on eBay.

Can somebody compile a list of ways fans can help ABBA achieve the highest chart placings possible? Maybe Colin might have some suggestions.
E.g., From where is it best to order the vinyl and cd versions of the new album and its singles to make the most impact on the charts? Amazon?
Thanks.

Just a thought: isn't it time to call it a day on this great thread now that the new songs have appeared? Maybe time to start a new thread called something like 'The Voyage album and the new ABBA songs' ? And what about a moderator transferring our comments on ISHFIY and DSMD, to such a new thread? Just thought I'd mention it.

Might be difficult… Zeebee is the moderator but he hasn’t been online in nearly a year (10 Sept 2020). Roxanne is the admin but likewise not been online since October last year. I keep wondering if the forum will just suddenly disappear one day, as the licence has to be renewed every year or so I think. There are no other moderators as far as I know.

I think it basically requires enough people to continuously stream the songs on Spotify or other streaming services that count towards the chart. Ed Sheeran fans must be doing that. All through the day and night. But most ABBA fans are of an age where they won’t do that - I’ve been using YouTube but it takes a hell of a lot more streams from that than it does from Spotify to count as one unit. Charts are a lost cause. Even the album chart now isn’t promising - I don’t think ABBA will be able to compete with Ed Sheeran, even for one week, so looks like a number 2. His album is released a week before. It is possible they may be able to topple him for a week but I wouldn’t put money on it. As with ABBA, all pre-orders go into the first week’s sales, so we can hope that enough people do that with Sheeran’s and don’t wait until the second week.

On yesterday's live streaming, did anyone notice Bjorn's micro-second reaction to Benny's typical teasing that "Bjorn's the one who loves publicity" jibe? Yes, there were a few awkward moments. Zoe Ball as irritating as ever, fawning all over them. And wasn’t it odd that she hugged Björn and not Benny? Presumably pre-arranged as perhaps Benny wanted to social distance (completely understandable) but still looked awkward. Reminded me of Noel Edmonds embracing Agnetha in 1982 but not Frida. Also, in the video for I Still Have Faith In You, did anyone notice the out-take from the Mamma Mia video where Frida appears to rest her head on Agnetha’s shoulder and Agnetha rolls her eyes? Surely there are better outtakes that that? The Happy New Year ones for a start. Again it looked awkward.

How amazing would it be if 'Just Like That' is a hidden track on the new album considering Agnetha is 71 years old her voice sounds incredible its not changed at all since 2013 and Frida's voice is in better condition than I thought it would be and all day I am getting the feeling of what it was like to be an ABBA fan in the 70s and 80s and they are doing all their own backing vocals just like they used to.

Obviously Frida had fluffed her words for the nth time while lip-synching and Agnetha was exasperated and thinking "how long is this bloody video going to take to finish!!"

Similar for Angeleyes but I doubt we’ll get that one. My understanding is that it's all 'locked' now. They've performed the whole show in the studio, which is why only the two new tracks released so far are included. Previously it was said that the vocals could be sourced from studio and live tracks. That would mean that tracks they never got to perform live could be included.
It would be insteresting to know how flexible the system is. Not all audiences will behave similarly, so can they delay the start of a track, so that ovations die down? I mean they can't just put the abbatars on pause... Maybe they have a way to set them to move in some kind of idle/waiting fashion until someone pushes the button and the next song starts?
I wonder if the live band is all set up by now, if they've rehearsed already and found out which songs work, is there need to adjust the speed? I'm sure the speed of the abbatars can be adjusted slightly without anyone noticing!

Is there anybody who bought all of them? :-) I was quite determined to support the release as much as possible (at the time we thought there would be just a single or two) but honestly I haven't expected this. I still pre-ordered quite many - the coloured vinyls (not all of them though), the picture discs (thank you, The Rubber Ball Man for the link to the french site) and two versions of the CD. Oh, and the singles. After all, I have many of the classic albums in far more versions than this :-)

I wondered how to help too. The problem is that as UK is no longer a member of the EU, ordering from there would mean extra VAT and customs to pay, and while I wish to support ABBA as much as possible, I'm not really willing to pay unnecessary fees. Moreover, many items were not even possible to purchase from the UK Voyage site for others than UK citizens. So finally I pre-ordered the items I wanted from Germany, Sweden and France. I don't know how the streaming works - I guess it depends on from where you stream. So I use VPN now to pretend to be in London - don't know if it can help though

In response to Alan, I purchased all the coloured vinyl, where ever it was offered as "exclusive", plus the standard black vinyl and the cd box set with cards and poster, etc. That's enough for me and my wallet!!!! As you said "mind boggling" and way more than expected and I might add a bit more than really necessary, at least all at once.

Is there anybody who bought all of them? :-) I did see a comment from someone on the Super Deluxe Edition website that said they’d ordered everything, so yes. I stopped at the deluxe CD box, the green vinyl, the three singles and the two picture discs (conveniently my birthday is in November so the picture discs will be presents from others!) I’ve not seen how many formats Ed Sheeran’s album is being released in. The multiple formats for ABBA should help it make a serious attempt on the number one spot (for a week anyway). However, if Sheeran’s has a similar number of formats then ABBA won’t have an advantage. I like the fact that the two 1981 formats (vinyl and cassette) are still active today, even though both appeared to be dead for various spells in the last 40 years. I’m not bothering with any cassette format but I like the fact it’s somehow made a comeback in the last few years. Guessing no one actually plays them though, or still has anything to play them on.

FYI..
Just in case your interested !!
Both singles failed to make the official UK singles chart this week... However they did make number 8, ISHFIY ,and DSMD at 10 in the UK download charts, alas this means nothing.. That said its only one day and no physical sales ( I think ) so next week we could be talking something else.......
Gold rises to 12 in the official UK album Chart its 1009th week....

I didn’t get the cassettes as I have no interest in that format. There was quite an impulse yesterday that led me buying all that. I didn’t want to leave it too late incase everything had sold out, and resold on ebay for ridiculous prices (which is happening now.) I wasn’t interested in the T-shirts either. I’ve also noticed that the everything is limited to 3 per customer. It’s really not fair, as this is giving an opportunity for the greedy pigs to make a profit over inflated prices on ebay. But then, some customers may intend to buy more than one set for collector purposes or to give as a gift. ABBA didn’t make the UK charts. However, I Still Have Faith In You is No.8 and Don’t Shut Me Down is No.10 in the UK Downloads charts. What everybody needs to do is replay the new songs over and over again on Spotify or YouTube for it to stand a chance to compete against Ed bloody Sheeran.
