I have received my first dispatch notice for "Voyage" - it's from HMV for the CD with alternative artwork (I also ordered an LP and cassette from them but they haven't been sent yet). Post is 2-5 days, so it could arrive any day from Thursday to Monday, I suppose. I didn't think HMV would be one of the first to start shipping.

Well I am filled with optimism now. Bumblebee is a new song. And Dan looks like it's going to be something to look forward to. Can't wait to collect my order from Hmv on Friday so I will be streaming after midnight. This will be the first time I have listened to a new Abba album in this way. Remember back to the old days , I would get the album. Read the cover the lyrics on the way home on the bus. Run in head phones on and dinner on my lap as I savoured every song. I remember the excitement of each new release. And here I am all these years later eagerly awaiting the drop on Friday 0:00.Thursday will be like a Christmas eve.

What do people think of the sleeve cover? A bit naff. It should be a picture of ABBA. It's clean and unfussy, and it's a nice change not to have the group on the front. That said, it's not very inspiring. Despite doubtless being bespoke commissioned, it has a definite 'stock image' feel about it, and as a concept it's too 'cosmic' for me. I've always associated ABBA with the here-and-now, and with modern, urban life; a band exploring the earthbound contemporary existence, so planetary imagery jars with all that. Obviously the cover is trying to encompass in one image both the rebirth and impending death of ABBA as a group (if not yet as individuals), which it does, but I think that could've been achieved in a less astral way (I'd have really liked to see the theme based around an urban scene at dusk). I also wish they could've ditched the ABBA band logo and typeface that's become synonymous with them. It's been long enough between releases for this to be its own thing, but if you're going to go with the established logo, play with it in some way to tie-in with the theme of concluding and 'farewelling' - make the letters progressively fade from left to right, or drift apart, or something. One of the sad things about this cover, of course, is that it reminds you that one of the old extended ABBA 'gang', cover designer and graphics director Rune Soederqvist, is no longer with us. I wonder what he might've come up with, had he been around to collaborate with his old mates once more.

I quite like the deep space visual campaign around ABBA's Voyage era; it works on so many different levels. Most obviously it underscores the science fiction/futuristic direction taken with the Abbatars project. But it also underscores the sheer improbability of this reunion even happening in the first place- as if it was as rare as the harmonic convergence of planets lining up in the same plane, or as rare as a full solar eclipse. But the planetary imagery also leaves me feeling mournful... that these are planets in our rear view, as if ABBA is saying "It's been great to know you, see you in the next life. Bon voyage!"

I think you expressed it very well, chron , by referencing a stock image. It is a good image but maybe lacks a little personality? That said, I'm glad they went with this image and not the ABBAtron images - for me they're a bit gimmicky for an album cover. I hope they're on the inner sleeve/booklet. Personally, I'm glad they stuck with the official ABBA logo and the typeface from the previous albums/reissues. It establishes an important continuity. The brown/gold cast of the album cover ties (un/intentionally?) with the last two studio album covers. Personally, I'd have preferred it if the image was more clearly an eclipse and there was a bluer night-sky cast to it - the close up of the sun emerging over the horizon makes it look a little like they could be approaching a new planet or something. Then again, the concept of the sun emerging after a 40-year eclipse is sweet and clever. To my eyes, all of the artwork - the singles, the album cover, the ABBAtar headshots - seem very dark. The ABBAtar stage performances in the ISHFIY video are darkly lit too. I wonder if this is a technical necessity to make the show work?

madonnabba, I like the reference to Christmas Eve/Christmas Day regarding the anticipation of the album. Trouble is, for me, especially nowadays as a grown-up, Christmas Eve is more magical than Christmas Day. No, I won't go there! I'm confident my ears will get an aural gift on November 5th.😏

Looks like the picture discs have completely run out. Listings have disappeared from the official store. There’s nothing much left in terms of exclusives, unless you want an individual ABBA Tar artwork CD or cassette. I didn’t think they’d be too popular. Perhaps the Agnetha or Frida ones have had more takers, but I can’t imagine the Björn or Benny ones getting much interest, aside from those that ordered all four.

As someone who's used to mainly artsy fartsy prog rock album covers and tons of other album artworks from the astutely uniform classical artwork style to the more creative and unpredictable hyperpop artwork style, I find the ABBA Voyage album artworks to be fresher and more cool kind of abstract since The Album. While other album artworks are a bit more grounded and promo-heavy, Voyage's artwork stands in contrast to the urban, rough style that the members have inherited right after the 1980s (eg. Djupa andetag, I Stand Alone, Benny Andersson orkester). It also complements the airy but punchy music arrangement that they were to be known for over the years and the color scheme is simple yet powerful.

What do people think of the sleeve cover? A bit naff. It should be a picture of ABBA. I have ordered mine from HMV where I'll have a pic of ABBA as abbatars. I adore the cover and genuinely think it's the opposite of "naff". For me it's so classy, understated and sophisticated. I actually find the abbatars alternate artwork a little naff though, but I've ordered it too of course!

I like the cover. It reminds me of Move on...it seems we're on a journey a trip through space and time. And I find the lyric video to DSMD strangely hypnotic and playful. And that's before the wine. I have ordered the Abbatar cover but will also buy the planet version. Its going to be strange for me listening to it on Spotify without the cover and lyrics in front of me but I will have them later in the day when I collect my order.

Regarding HMV despatching yesterday, it seems there is some control over when they’re delivered. Someone on PopJustice got an email from Royal Mail saying HMV had instructed them not to deliver their Lana Del Rey vinyl until Friday.
However, if some cassettes have already arrived (not sure if this was to UK addresses though), someone other than HMV has messed up.

it seems there is some control over when they’re delivered. Yes, I'm guessing that's the case. I ordered from Platenzaak.nl and got a confirmation e-mail yesterday that my order was on its way. But when I look up the tracking number on DHL it says: shipment not yet received or processed. Won't be long now before album reviews start coming in. I'm a bit anxious to be honest. Reviewers can be brutal. I just read a review in a Dutch newspaper of the new Diana Ross album "Thank You" which will be released on 5 November as well. The one star review reduced the album to rubble, claiming it only contained one decent song in its title track. I know it's only one opinion but I do hope ABBA will fare better with the critics.

ABBA Night on BBC Two from 8pm Saturday 13 November:
8pm: ABBA at the BBC 9pm: The Joy of ABBA 10pm: Agnetha: ABBA and After (2013) 11pm: ABBA in Switzerland (1979)
Nothing particularly exciting in that lot, though hopefully ABBA in Switzerland will include the guest performances by Kate Bush and Roxy Music that were edited out of the version on the Voulez-Vous deluxe. I think the sequence for Eagle wasn’t present on that either. ABBA at the BBC included some of the ABBA in Switzerland performances, meaning they’re likely to be shown twice in one night.

I will wait. Not long now.
I can't see the point in listening to a few seconds of a song.

I liked the idea of listening to the album a few times upon its release and then choosing not listen to it any more until Christmas. But I soon realised it was a plan that wouldn't work for me - not with all the discussion of the songs that will soon appear, demanding that I should give this or that track another listen just to check. 😆

Just trying to work out when the album will first become officially available somewhere in the world (UK time). Guess it turns midnight in New Zealand (or slightly further east) about 12 hours before the UK, so people there will get to hear it properly by Thursday mid-day (UK time)? That's not long at all!

I have a feeling this is going to be an eclectic album of very different songs, reflecting the fact that they were written and recorded over four years. I also have a feeling that I'll end up liking every single one of them for very different reasons. I've enjoyed equally all three songs released so far. Just as parents will often say about their children, I don't love one more than another. Each one is lovable in its own way.
I'm not sorry I missed those snippets of other tracks. I don't think I would have allowed myself to be tempted even if I had the opportunity to listen to them now. I want to hear them begin, then open up, develop and build, continually surprising me in all sorts of little ways all the way to their close. I want to hear them fully and no other way.
I'm so very excited about this, the first all-new album of ABBA songs in 40 years! We are soooooooooooooooooo lucky!!! This is a dream come true and what a great parting gift to their fans it is. And there's not long to wait! By the end of November, these other seven songs will be as familiar to us and as natural a part of ABBA's repertoire as SOS and KMKY. Imagine that! They'll just be part of the ABBA-canon of songs very, very soon!
In 1982, ABBA let their fans hang on in forlorn hope for most of the rest of the 1980s, leaving them constantly wondering if they might reunite and record together again. With Voyage, it's almost like they're making amends for leaving all of us in the lurch in January 1983. Now they've come back to bid the world a proper farewell, in the best possible way.
We forgive you, ABBA, for going AWOL, for just disappearing the way you did out the back door. Thanks for finally giving us this proper "goodbye" with such a beautiful and stunning parting gift! So wonderful of you to come back to end things in the best way imaginable.
We love you!

Today I received a notice from two of the retailers that I ordered my Voyage records from that they have not received them from Universal yet and will not be able to ship them in time One of them told me they expect to ship them sometimes next week, the other that the record won't be shipped before 14th November. I wonder if these delays can affect the first week sales of the album and thus it's chart performance?

I've now got a mental image of an expectant queue forming outside a little record shop somewhere in the Republic of Kiribati in about twelve hours' time and a DJ on Kiribati FM champing at the bit to give 'Voyage' a world-first spin at a minute past midnight.

The official store has emailed to say my order has been despatched… except it’s just the ABBA Tar picture disc which I ordered a bit later on. The main order (CD box and green vinyl) still showing as “pending”.
