I'm sure the technology is available already - without any further input from the ABBA members - if they want to increase the pool of songs to choose from for future Voyage shows. Here's a couple of videos I came across on YouTube this morning: one from just a photo; the other from America's's Got Talent - a present-day 'live' Elvis. Unfortunately, the first one seems to be unavailable, but there are plenty of similar examples on YouTube

Once they knew the ABBATars were going to be ready, I wonder if there was then a rush to complete an album? I doubt there was ever a plan to stop at five songs, it was either just two or a full album. Alan this quote if from you. It is not a response to anyone else's point. Maybe you changed your mind? I don’t think you bother to read posts. If you look above, you can see that clumsylikeaclown quoted me and mentioned “rushed”. I then quoted them with a response, saying what I meant. Stop making an issue of something that really isn’t one. I deleted your previous post about this because it made absolutely no sense whatsoever. If you actually read all the posts, you’d realise.

I’ve wondered recently if they could recreate the abba tours? 77,79, maybe even 1975! I’m also just throwing this out there: I may be off, I really thought that Abba would have mashed gimme with Madonna’s Hung Up, just a few lines of the chorus from the ladies, thought it would have been a nice nod to a fellow artist and a quirky treat in a way. I may be wrong!

During the recent ABBA Fan Club Webinar, Baillie Walsh replied to the question from Fans, if and when new songs will be available from the ABBAtars, that there will be changes and additions in the future but that any additional production costs an awfull lot of money and the break even for the actual production is still many miles away, so I think we will need to have some more patience...

Alan, I do read posts properly. If I choose to read a particular post I will read it all. But not every post I read.
I was referring to your post - the second last post on the previous page. The only person you quote is me on the chronology issue - which you answered. People can make up their own minds. That's my last word on that particular issue.
More generally on quotes I find some people 1. Quote whole posts when a sentence or two is really only necessary. 2. You can get to a stage where a post has too many quote boxes in it. 3. It's not necessary of course to use the quote facility always but if do raise another person's point make it clear.
On the "rushed" issue it does seem a decision was to go for an album in 2021 - hence all the songs recorded then. But also a timetable to stick to. An album realease in time for Christmas - but with the first two singles released at least a couple of months before that. Of course back in the day ABBA were used to realising an album s year but that was over 40 years ago.
On a possible deluxe edition, what would it include? And has the moment gone now for one? I am not convinced and never was that there would be one. But of course I could be wrong.
By the way BAAB why do you always post as a guest?

Alan, I do read posts properly. If I choose to read a particular post I will read it all. But not every post I read. And therein lies the problem, and proves what I suspected to be the case in my previous post on this issue. You called me out on a post you assumed hadn’t been quoted on. The post you refer to was (quite rightly) picked up on by clumsylikeaclown (third post down, this page). I then responded to them quoting their post (fifth post down, this page, immediately above your post). You chose to completely ignore those posts (or by your own admission, not read them) and try and make out that you’re the victim and get pulled up all the time, which was absolute nonsense. By deleting your original garbled post saying I’d not responded (where I think you quoted a Beverley Knight song) I was trying to save you the embarrassment, but you then had to keep pushing it and make yourself look even more silly. Oh well, moving on. The point you make about quoting is a valid one. If you’re responding to a particular person you can use @username to alert them (which also provides a link to their profile). There are a few cases where this might not work - usernames can be completely different to display names, and it has to be the username you put “@“ immediately in front of. For instance, my username is actually alan1 as the name was already in use, but my display name is Alan (which, incidentally, is my real first name and the one I use). Quoting can be difficult. I find it quite time-consuming removing the bits I don’t want. Recently two people have mis-quoted. Both of them realised, but it’s completely understandable as it’s easily done. My role as moderator is to correct these (which I’m more than happy to do). Another thing we used to do is put ^^ (the number of them varied) at the very start of a post to signify that you were responding to the post immediately above. A problem here is if your post ends up as the first on a new page, or if someone else has already beaten you to it and posted in the time it’s taken to compose your post. Also it didn’t alert the user that you were responding to them. Probably for those reasons, the practice has all but died out.

Just on the off-chance that you read this post (but don’t feel as though you have to), I’d say it could include the two “quite good” unfinished tracks plus any new songs they may have felt like recording since. However, I’ve largely put it to bed now. It’s not impossible but I’m not expecting it to happen. Similar with the shows - it’s been pointed out that they’re no where near breaking even yet and that it does take a lot of time and money just to create a single ABBATar performance. I think we may have got a bit carried away with the speculation. They apparently can’t just do anything and everything. I’m hopeful of the four additional songs they say that the real ABBA performed, but that’s all. I do wonder about 2024 though. The 50th is a big anniversary. The 40th was marked by the Live at Wembley album, the 40-singles boxed set, and deluxe editions of both Waterloo and Gracias Por La Música. They can’t do any of those again, so how can they top that? Surely there has to be something previously unreleased? If not connected to Voyage, then something else?

But this time around they could be pressed on gold vinyl.

I'd be most eager to hear the full version of 'Terra del Fuego'. Obviously never going to happen but it would certainly stand out!

I'd be most eager to hear the full version of 'Terra del Fuego'. Obviously never going to happen but it would certainly stand out! I had to look that one up to remind myself what it was. Wikipedia states: "Here Comes Rubie Jamie" is the working title of a song recorded in 1974, which had acquired the name "Terra Del Fuego" by the time the lyrics were recorded. The song is unique in that it is the only studio recording to feature lead vocals by all four ABBA members. An excerpt of the song (where only Benny and Frida are heard) was released on the box set Thank You for the Music. The excerpt was particularly edited so as not to include the chorus, as it is said that Björn and Benny violently dislike it. This explains why it is not named after its original title, but named to not refer to the chorus.” All those recordings sitting on tapes (well, they’ve all been digitised now) and we may never get to hear them.

I had to look up that song too.
Here is a clip from youtube
Clumslylikeaclown I also think of little chance of any kind of rarity tracks being released. It seems B+B want to reduce even previously released tracks. I am thinking of Albums box set. Original had a bonus disc of 17 tracks, latest version just 10.
I can't see ABBA doing what Blondie did recently - a box set of studio albums and unreleased and rarity songs.
Alan, any 2024 release likely to be a slight variant to The Definitive Collection with 2 or 3 Voyage songs - if at all. I also think the time has gone for a deluxe version of Voyage. The time to have released one would have been May, around the time of the show or now for Christmas. If there isn't a release within next couple of weeks, then probably never.

johnny You're onto something with that 'The Definitive Collection + Voyage songs' suggestion that seems pretty likely. Following the logic of that album that would be ISHFIY, DSMD, JAN and LT. Another possibility on a '50th anniversary compilation album' could be 'ABBA Gold + the Voyage songs that aren't from that album'.

I finally went to see ABBA Voyage last night. (Yes, I know, I should have been earlier!) I liked it very much. I had goosebumps throughout the show, particularly earlier on (TV, HIYS, SOS, KMKY). The avatars are quite amazing, and you can almost believe ABBA are really there. The song selection is excellent, particularly the non-singles.
A couple of gripes. It’s short. Only about an hour and a half. That’s not good value. And that’s especially true when you consider you have to sit through two irrelevant cartoons and a song sung by the backing group. (Why did ‘Bjorn’ not sing DYMK?)
But overall, great stuff. I will go again, but will probably wait to see if there are some set changes. If you haven’t yet been, go!

gary - Quality over quantity. I'd love it to be something like one hour, brief intermission then another hour, but that's just me being greedy! Re: the backing group singing DYMK, I noticed that the songs which feature male backing vocals had them massively downplayed in the 'Voyage mix'. This is very noticeable in KMKY and SNC. So I think that had something to do with it.

All this talk about 2024 is quite depressing, seems ages away lol!😢 i know we waited 40 years, but none of us are getting any younger after that 40 year wait! If anything new is in the pipeline, i would like it to be released sooner rather than later! Please Benny lol! 😃

It’s only 16 months away, @alib. The Eurovision anniversary is 6 April. It’s around then that I expect to see some special releases. But not Definitive/Essential or Gold with Voyage singles added. That’s boring, and in the streaming era, not necessary. They want people to buy/stream both Gold and Voyage.

Interesting news. The piece states “Björn and fellow ABBA legend, Benny, are creating a new arrangement of a track from ABBA’s 2021 album, Voyage, which will be recorded with a choir and broadcast as part of his programme.”
Surely not Little Things though. That already has a choir. Ode to Freedom perhaps?

I think Ode to Freedom is the likely contender. Remember this?

Ode To Freedom and Little Things are the only two possible contenders I'd say, and hopefully the former.

The Official ABBA Fan Club’s take on it suggests listeners will be able to take part in the new recording of the track. It also reads that he and Jamie Oliver will present together, but that’s incorrect and has got lost in translation (the Fan Club’s source is the Swedish “Expressen”).
Apparently Jamie is doing it on 27th and Björn on 30th. The new recording has probably already been done. I have little interest in it if new ABBA vocals aren’t on it (which they won’t be).
”Björn Ulvaeus will host a program on British radio together with TV chef Jamie Oliver over Christmas.
The future of Europe and the "Eurovision Song Contest", are among the topics that Ulvaeus will address in the program broadcast on BBC's Radio 4.
”Björn Ulvaeus, 71, has been selected to host, together with TV chef Jamie Oliver, 47, a radio show on British Radio 4 over the Christmas weekend.
The Swedish musician is one of seven who are guests as presenters for the radio channel during the Christmas and New Year period.
Jamie Oliver, has promised a "joyful, interesting and intimate" experience for listeners. According to the Daily Mail, he will talk about how to improve children's health, among other things.
Ulvaeus has promised that he will examine the future of Europe and discuss next year's "Eurovision Song Contest" - the competition that put ABBA on the world map once upon a time.
In the program, listeners will also be able to take part in a new recording of a song from ABBA's latest album in 2021, Voyage - which Björn Ulvaeus recorded together with Benny Andersson.”

Loosely related to topic..lol
Its virtually that time of year again when the charts go crazy here in the UK ( as an aside in your country is it the same? ). In yesterday’s mid week update of the UK top 100 singles chart, there are 32 tracks that I can see that are of a Christmas theme and there’s still 4 weeks to go until the official Christmas number one will be announced.
Of those 32 tracks , 2 are already in the top 10, Mariah Carey, and her All I Want For Christmas Is You and Wham with Last Christmas.. There’s 4 tracks in the top 20, 13 in the top 40 and 32 in the top 100.. Again I haven’t listened to all of them over the years but I think all are uptempo, or going that way.. so where is Little Things... alas no where to be seen.....yet.....
There is a possibility it could re chart , as radio 2 don’t tend to play any Christmas tracks until December the first.......
I’ve nothing in general against LT, yes it’s not up there amongst my favourites but... such a missed opportunity though for ABBA to have had a track that would chart year in year out, if only it had a more up tempo feel..... now where’s that Matt Pop version ?

Alan - re: lost in translation
The Mail online put out a piece which read like Bjorn and Jamie Oliver would be presenting together. It is sloppy journalism. Often for online arricles and tweets there are mistakes which wouldn't occur in a print edition (that exist) or in a broadcast. These online posts are often re-written and re-posted several times a day. I think news outlets just copy these - mistakes included.
ForeverFan - LT is not my favourite. I may have mentioned that 🤣 I prefer uptempo Christmas songs and often by artists I don't normally like such as Mariah and Shakey.

Regarding ABBA and Christmas songs, like foreverfan and johnny, I wish they had done an uptempo one. Divested of its Christmas lyrics, I think the melody of Little Things, with a better arrangement (imo) - bit faster and less cloying - would have worked wonderfully in a more classical style.

Good news about Bjorn editing Radio 4's Today programme but I'm no fan of Jamie Oliver. Constantly banging on about healthy eating but when I went to his website, it asked me if I would accept cookies. The hypocrisy!

^^ Bjorn will be a guest on the brilliant podcast, Table Manners, by the brilliant Jessie Ware and her mother. They've had quite an array of stars and their chat is completely down-to-earth and fun. I'm looking forward to it. I'm not sure I envisage a Jessie Ware/ABBA collaboration at any point - her musical style just isn't in that ballpark - but I can imagine she's a huge fan.
