I cannot verify, but it was reported to me that Gary Davies announced on radio 2 there was exciting ABBA news coming later in the week...

This is what he actually said...
"We might have some exciting news about ABBA later on this week. We MIGHT. Not promising you anything but we MIGHT..." then chuckles.

This would be a good time for any Popjustice habitués to swing by and share some barely-veiled gossip. Last time around, they had the juiciest of titbits, suggesting that insiders might have been forum members.

Gary Davies has just mentioned again that they have some big ABBA news tomorrow. No “might” this time.

I'm amazed that nothing has been leaked either officially or by accident...
Please don't let the " big" news be another top 40 of favourite tracks.... Or a competition to win tickets to see Voyage with Q&A with B&B....nice , but not big news....
I guess we all hope for an appearance ( all 4). Or new music.....

The only news I would consider “big” is unreleased songs being released. Much lesser news would be a partial Voyage setlist change. Anything else would either not be “big” news or would not be news at all.
I’m not getting excited.
I’ve kept an eye on PopJustice but nothing on there. The ABBA thread on there has become very dull and boring, usually just people going to see the show.

“Huge ABBA news - long lost ABBA track” - Gary just said that.
We’ll all be listening tomorrow!

Alan, I'm currently at (my very boring) work and you have just made my day by quoting the potential news to be announced tomorrow re: long lost track!

Ok we have the full story now.
Tomorrow Gary has huge ABBA news PLUS he'll play a top of the pops performance from the group that's not Been lost for 50 years!
BBC radio 2 words not mine!

Tomorrow on BBC2 (airtime 19:30-22:00), Gary Davies promises "huge ABBA news". Has anyone further information?

And what if the big ABBA news is The Piano Event at Waterloo Station? And what sense does it make to play a TV appearance on the radio?? The Audio isn't that fascinating.

This could be over hype on everyone's part..
I'm trying to keep an open mind... that said to potentially " find" a long lost track... ( if rumour has it ) and that no one has heard of , even dare I say CMP. The guru of all ! is looking improbable, 50 years is a long time... or long lost from the Voyage sessions.. depending on ones interpretation of lost...
All will hopefully come clear.

Whatever the news is, it's good that it's created an excited, if cautious, buzz on here after the damp squib February month where it felt like nothing exciting was ever going to happen in 2024. I'm keeping my expectations low so that it doesn't hurt too much if it's an "Oh, is that it?!" moment.

This just posted on another thread by Gassi. Could it be the news we've all been hoping for?!
"Tomorrow on BBC2 (airtime 19:30-22:00), Gary Davies promises "huge ABBA news". Has anyone further information?"
[Edit by Alan - to avoid any confusion, the above refers to BBC Radio 2, not BBC Two TV, and the airtime is 09:30-12:00 British Summer Time - UTC+1]

Isn't he mixing up BBC 2 and Radio 2 and getting the times wrong?

I'm absolutely sure that it will not be new ABBA music to be announced.
We know since Voyage, how ABBA/Universal would promote that!

“Huge ABBA news - long lost ABBA track” - Gary just said that. We’ll all be listening tomorrow! " Long lost ABBA track".... Could this possibly mean that Just Like That has been dragged out of the vaults, been given a dab of lippy and a squirt of hairspray? Remember those intriguing registration numbers that emerged last year or the year before? JLT had a suspiciously recent-looking number.

The lost track is the totp So Long. The huge announcement, however, is something else.

There were posts in three different threads about this, so I’ve moved them all to this one.
Gary Davies (sitting in for Vernon Kay) said “Tomorrow - huge ABBA announcement on this show plus a long-lost ABBA track”.
As there was a new album less than three years ago, to use the word “huge” is setting this up for disappointment if it doesn’t deliver.
The “long-lost ABBA track” is apparently So Long from Top of the Pops. As it’s been on YouTube for at least ten years, it’s hardly lost. Plus, how can you play a video on the radio? Did they perform it live on the show? Even if they did, it’s not a long-lost track, merely a less familiar performance.

Ah! OK. Thanks for that. I guess I had better try to tune in online. At least it's Friday, so if somehow there's a new release, it'll get a full retail week before the next chart.
He's hardly going to play the dusted-off "live" re-recording that would have been required of a TOTP in the olden days!? I can't imagine that it'd be the most exciting slice of audio.

If this really is it then I despair with old-style media. They obviously want us to think YouTube and the Web doesn’t exist, or that the public is too stupid to use it.

Even if they did, it’s not a long-lost track, merely a less familiar performance. As it only exists as a ropey home video, I’d hope the audio has been cleaned up a bit for radio broadcast. It’s also a special occasion as it’s the first time this performance has been seen/heard on the BBC since 1974. What’s with the negativity?

If this is the case, shame on BBC......
I have a sinking feeling , it's going to be another damp squib, I just can't imagine a long lost track that nobody knows about, all these years 50! And all of a sudden ....new track... If it wasn't April the 5th tomorrow, I'd think it was April Fools day.....
Please prove me wrong.....
