As widely predicted this set comes out on 25th October 2024. 38 tracks. nothing new. It has space for love isnt easy (!?) but no space for Thank you for the music or The Vistors. There are 5 tracks from Voyage, including No doubt about it.

If that artwork is real, it looks like they’re drawing inspiration from the 1982 compilation. Bit of a pity they aren’t using the same photo. No need for five tracks from Voyage. No Doubt About It wasn’t a proper single and Little Things could have been left off. Well, I guess that’s it then, no more previously-unreleased music. Not this year anyway. Sounds like they’re basing it on Polar singles, hence Love Isn’t Easy but not the other two justabba mentioned. Do we have a track list?

This was a golden opportunity to release those two additional songs from the Voyage sessions, especially as 'The First Ten Years' gave the world two new songs back in the 80s. Yet it's been bypassed completely.
Disappointed is not the word.

Disappointing but predictable.
By slavishly going fot singles they have included some rubbish from Ring Ring as well as Little Things and missed out great album tracks like The Visitors and Slipping Through My Fingers. Or When I Kissed the Teacher - not a favourite of mine buy worthy of a place on any 38 track album
Just from reading posts here I assume the breakdown of songs by album
Ring Ring 4 Waterloo 3 ABBA 4 Arrival 3 The Album 3 Voulez Vous 5 Super Trouper 3 The Visitors 3 Voyage 5 Non Album 5
That's 38 tracks.
Included 3 non-Polar sings, Angeleyes(UK hit), LAYLOM(UK hit) When All is Said and Done (US hit)
I would have preferred the big hits plus songs from Voyage show and Mamma Mia movies if we had to have another compilation

I think it's not real. Why would they call it The First 50 Years, when there isn't going to be another 50, why use that photo, and if you click on the 'deluxe CD format' it takes you to a picture of a Def Leppard boxset?

I hope it's not real.
They had The Singles The First Ten Years before of course. You could have asked about the next 10 years then

But if you are going to release one, at least bring something new to the table, you know?

Eagle was a Polar single, johnny, but Lay All Your Love On Me wasn’t. I don’t think Hasta Manana was a Polar single either. Not sure why that’s included. Otherwise looks like an update of Definitive/Essential, with some tracks removed and Voyage ones added.

It looks a bit cheap, TBH. I found an image of the back, with the tracklist. No new material, no suggestion that anything might be a revised/remixed/alternative/Voyage version. More like an expanded Definitive Collection than The First Ten Years, I can't see it unseating Gold. I can't find any information on how many formats there'll be - but I imagine there'll be black and coloured vinyl variants, aimed at completists. I note that the small print refers to the set as a boxset. Trying to guess at how many LPs would be needed to sell this, complete, on vinyl. If you want every version, get ready to flog a kidney on the dark web. Probably pitched at the casual fan and the stocking-filler market. A short but bright chart performance, maybe.

Alan, I am assuming LAYLOM is included- 1 of the 3 from Super Trouper.
I think my non Polar bit needs to be amended

It's there, johnny - track 7, disc 2. Team ABBA really are phoning it for this 50th anniversary. Underwhelming or what?!

As a reminder, the very similar track lists of both Definitive and Essential. Essential merely removed the two Definitive bonus tracks but added four tracks for which videos were made. This new compilation removes those four tracks along with Thank You For The Music, On and On and On and The Visitors. It adds the five Voyage tracks and Hasta Manana.

Yet it's been bypassed completely. Disappointed is not the word. B&B repeating history by prickteasing the two unreleased tracks, a la JLT and IATC in 1982. So it's not just the font/layout they're recycling. Presume Bjorn will be mentioning the release on Loose Women today?

My album distribution was correct. My knowledge about what is/isn'tva Polar single less so!
I would have thought hard-core completionists and casual fans may buy this in the first week or two.
Don't forget the Voyage songs will actually be new to many casual fans
We don't know if it's true but it seems plausible.

I don’t care how many vinyl variants or even CD versions of this are made available, I won’t be getting it! The only thing that could tempt me is if it’s discovered that a rare or unavailable mix has mistakenly made its way onto it. Very unlikely but not impossible (I’m thinking of the Andante Andante mix that turned up ten years ago).
There could be a DVD with the upscaled videos though, and I Still Have Faith In You. They can keep the lyric videos though.

Something had to bring me out of my stupor... alas not for the right reason.... As said before, " they" are not going to please all of us all of the time.... but I really hope this is fake....or just dare I say only for the mainland European market... Even the cover is let's be honest...crap... there's so many better pics out there..... The first 50 years is also dubious. As if there is going to be another 50 let alone another one....
So I'll pass on this, no big surprise there, and have those fingers crossed that this is a ruse and something else is happening... but if this is it.... I'm nearly speechless
Still living in eternal hope..... just....

Boring! I'm sulking like a 3 year old now. Not interested. Never thought I'd say that about a new and official ABBA release.

If this is all, ABBA is dead then. I'll definitely pass on this one. An absolutely pointless compilation. The don't even bother to add the 4K remastered videos on Blu-ray!

FFS - €109 for 4-LP vinyl set that offers precisely nothing new?

Not really surprised, johnny, no. Though that link you’ve posted - I am surprised there don’t appear to be multiple vinyl variants available (yet). The vinyls appear to have different authentic Polar labels across the sides from the various different eras. A nice touch, but if the only thing remotely interesting about this is the labels then it really is a sorry state of affairs!

That vinyl price is just mad. More of a rip off than an Oasis ticket!

“2CD format is packaged as a hardcover media book with a 28-page illustrated booklet including liner notes and unseen band images.”
Unseen as in never before used? I suppose they’ve got to try and sell this somehow but that’s getting desperate.

Just had email which details a load of new Abba products for sale including... A revamped edition of The Singles - the first ten years. Now known as the first fifty years. I know this is old material but it better than nothing, plus the sleeve image brings back some fabulous memories. What else could they release in time for the Christmas markets?

This is a 50th Anniversary for two sets of dates
1974 - 2024 obviously
But also 1972 - 2022 From People Need Love to No Doubt About It, which was a sort of single.

“2CD format is packaged as a hardcover media book with a 28-page illustrated booklet including liner notes and unseen band images.” Unseen as in never before used? I suppose they’ve got to try and sell this somehow but that’s getting desperate. Looks like a couple of those shots are visible in the LP layout image - but the too-tightly-cropped shot of the girls suggests that some of these "unseen" images might have been unused for good editorial reasons. It seems odd that they couldn't/wouldn't round things up to 40 tracks. Even with the frustrating stubbornness about the two Voyage off-cuts, there were two US A-sides they could have used: On And On And On and The Visitors. What's the betting they'll rack up a few enthusiastic preorders before releasing details of other formats - coloured vinyl, picture discs, etc.? That's before the T-shirts, tote bags, keyrings, mugs and posters emerge. Kerching!

But also 1972 - 2022 From People Need Love to No Doubt About It, which was a sort of single. I’ve just noticed that the back of the CD does use the 1972 and 2022 dates. To be incredibly pedantic, that’s actually 51 years! I’d have preferred them to use a 2021 date as that’s when No Doubt About It appeared on the album and it was only a (non) single right at the start of 2022. The original “First Ten Years” compilation was OK as it only included singles released from 1973 to 1982.
