A YouTube upload along similar lines to this thread, although focusing only on Agnetha & Benny. I didn't intend to do the same, so come on guys where are all the Frida & Björn equivalents?
Quite a few of the images in this video don't really pass my 'affection or intimacy' test; they are just cropped pics in which Agnetha and Benny happen to be next to each other. But there are several interesting ones that hopefully might jog Fafner's memory in order to provide us with good quality versions.

A sad contribution to the thread. In November 1978 the group were interviewed on Japanese TV. Agnetha and Björn were a month away from ending their marriage and could barely sit on the same sofa together, let alone play the happy couple. So Benny and Agnetha walk out first, well ahead of the other two. Benny briefly takes Agnetha's hand as they walk towards the set, and they sit in the 'wrong' order. The confused interviewer asks 'both of you are couples..who and who?' Björn replies 'Have a guess'. Benny then takes Frida's hand to show who's who. Björn tries to do the same with Agnetha (behind Frida) but she initially ignores it, then there's the briefest of reluctant handshakes between them. If you want to get all nostalgic and melancholy over this, compare their demeanour with their embrace on the airplane steps in Poland just two years earlier  On the airplane steps in Poland |

To be fair, I don't think Agnetha notices Bjorn's hand reaching behind Frida. But you're right. It couldn't be a briefer touch of hands. They must have decided beforehand what order they would sit. Agnetha and Bjorn at either end with the other couple in the middle would have looked odd. They probably thought this arrangement with none of the partners sitting together would show that it was no big deal to any of them but it sort of backfired and as you say turned into an awkward moment.

There's a moment after Benny and Frida hold hands when Agnetha keeps her own hands to herself, as if she's hoping that the other couple will therefore be assumed by the host without further confirmation. It's amazing how perky and in form she looks, really. Same on the Mike Yarwood show. They may have effectively made the decision already and were almost relieved. |

Earlier in this thread we discussed the awkward Japanese interview just before Agnetha and Bjorn split up, in which they sat apart, confusing the hosts. The following still is from an interview earlier the same year, with the same disorientation. But on this occasion, the confusion is all part of the routine and the couples seem happy to play along.
