I think I've mentioned more than once that MM2 wouldn't win any Oscars... How wrong could I be.... .. Apparently the Acadamy is opening up a category to the public to vote for, and MM2 is one of the potential favourites so are we going to vote for it if it happens?

Oh no, that would be ridiculous… I wonder why they do that… it will be regarded as a second rate Oscar anyway.

About time too. Too much backslapping and snobbery in the Oscars. I Would do away with them all together. Hours of tedious tears and speeches. And they televise it? The Oscars are decided not by the public but by the academy and can be influenced by who is in favour at the time. Remember Bette Davis saying she was robbed of one by Joan Crawford canvassing support for other actresses. So if they have to stay then at least have one that reflects public opinion. After all the industry exists because of the paying public. The most important Oscar should be the public one. The customer is always right. Especially in the land that prides itself in customer service.

madonnabba, I agree that the ceremony is completely boring. I don't watch it and you don't have to either. However, it would be the same even if it was decided by public, as you suggest. I'm afraid that if it was so, it would no longer be about quality but about popularity, which can go hand in hand but it's not always like that. Can you imagine movies such as Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey receiving an Oscar? We have a vote-based award for the singers in my homeland and it was once won by a guy, who cannot sing at all (even himself he was shocked by the victory). It would be the same with the Oscars if it was decided by public...

At present 'Mamma Mia! 1' is the UK's 11th 'All Time' Box Office Film. 'Mamma Mia! 2' is in 17th place. However, 'Mamma Mia! 2' may rise a little higher, as it is still in UK Cinemas. So much for the ABBA Fans who said that Film 2 should never be made. That it would be a gigantic flop. They have no faith in the attraction of ABBA Music at all. (Sadly, Benny and Bjorn have only slightly more faith in ABBA Music. They too thought that a Film 2 should never be made. That ABBA had 'no decent songs left for it'. The same warning that they now give out about why 'Mamma Mia! 3' should never be made).
But, they do think that it is a good idea to, (soon), open a 'Mamma Mia!' Themed Venue at the O2 Arena, in London. People can eat in a Restaurant and sing a long to ABBA Songs. Then they can go onto a Dance Floor to dance to ABBA. They think that it is a good idea...

'MAMMA MIA! 2' ON DVD, BLU-RAY, 4K ULTRA HD, AND DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
It looks 'Mamma Mia!' 2 will be released in those Formats in later October. In some Countries, it will not be out until November.
I haven't a clue what 4K Ultra HD is. I'm hopeless with 'Modern' technology. I don't even understand Blu-Ray!
Anyhow, depending on which Format you buy it in, you get different 'Bonus Treats'. A complicated List, it is too.
The 2 'Sets' of Bonus Treats are very different. Can anyone make better sense of it, than I?
Here is what has been revealed -- via Broadway World:
MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN Available on DVD and Digital This October

Sophie learns about her mother's exciting, fun-filled adventures with the young Dynamos, Tanya (Jessica Keenan-Wynn) and Rosie (Alexa Davies), and how young Donna first met her three possible dads HARRY (Hugh Skinner), Bill (Josh Dylan) and Sam (Jeremy Irvine) all those years ago. 'MAMMA MIA! 2' -- NOW THE UK's 15th 'ALL TIME' BOX OFFICE FILM
With a UK Gross Box Office of £63.2 Million, 'Mamma Mia! 2' is now the UK's 15th Biggest Film of 'All Time'. It pushes the former No.15 Film down to 16th place - 'The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring', which had a UK Box Office Gross of £63 Million. So we now have 2 'Mamma Mia!' Films in the UK's 'All Time' Top 15 Films. The 1st 'Mamma Mia!' is in 11th place, with a UK Gross of £68.6 Million. It still amuses me that some ABBA Fans have been against a 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film, ever since 2008. It was going to: 'Flop, like 'Grease 2', they said. Lol!.
'Mamma Mia! 2' is currently the UK's 16th 'All Time' Film, with £61.6 Million. It will be given £63.2 Million and moved up to 15th place, later this Week...
BUT THE FILM SOUNDTRACK IS NOT SELLING TERRIBLY WELL...
In the Tuesday UK Mid Week Album Chart 'The Greatest Showman' has now risen to 3rd place, and 'Mamma Mia! 2' is down to 4th place. 'The Greatest Showman' is on its 36th Top 10 Week - all Top 5, and all but 1 Top 3. 'Mamma Mia! 2's Soundtrack has been in the Charts for just 9 Weeks - all Top 5. But, it has only outsold 'The Greatest Showman' for 7 of those Weeks. Now it is 1,600 Mid Week Sales behind 'The Greatest Showman'. The 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film is far, far bigger than its Soundtrack. The Soundtrack has just not really attracted people. We'll see how the DVD of the Film sells in October, (or November). After all, people have proved that they like the Film, so the DVD will far outsell the Soundtrack.

The 'Mamma Mia! 2' Soundtrack fell from No.2 to No.4 in the latest UK Album Chart -- W/E 20th September 2018.
The Soundtrack to 'The Greatest Showman' rose above it - from No.3 to No.2. It is its 37th Week in the Top 10. All 37 Weeks have been in the Top 5 - with the past 36 Weeks in the Top 3.
It has spent 21 Weeks at No.1 to just 5 No.1 Weeks for 'Mamma Mia! 2'.
It is a far, far bigger success than the 'Mamma Mia! 2' Soundtrack, which has yet to reach 300,000 Sales.
At No.2)... The Greatest Showman (Motion Picture Cast Recording) -- 16,227
Its UK Sales - so far - in 2018 -- 1,170,977
Its Total UK Sales - so far - with 2017 added in -- 1,177,977
At No.4)... Mamma Mia!, "Here We Go Again” (Motion Picture Cast Recording) -- 13,269
This Soundtrack has been in the Top 5 for 9 weeks, but it has only been higher than 'The Greatest Showman' for 7 of those Weeks.
So far, the 'Mamma Mia! 2' Soundtrack's UK Sales are just 236,019.
This will be causing Benny & Bjorn and Universal to wonder why the 2nd Soundtrack is struggling.
After all, the 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Soundtrack is at No.14 this week, with around 4,000 Sales. That has sold over 1,550,000 UK copies - a lot more than even 'The Greatest Showman'.
We have a situation where people love the 2nd Film, and it is the UK's 15th 'All Time' Box Office Hit, yet the Soundtrack CD is struggling to even reach 300,000 Sales. For some reason people are just not excited by the Soundtrack CD. They want the Film but not the Soundtrack...

Bit puzzled by this too especially given that some of the songs have been reworked with new lyrics. I expect the dvd will do well as will the Greatest Showman. Will be interesting to see if Cher can hit number one with the cover album.

Madonnabba -- As people like the 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film, I am expecting the DVD to be a huge seller. That is in the UK and Globally.
However, I'm not expecting the DVD to have the incredible Sales of the 'Mamma Mia!', (One), DVD. That sold almost 1,670,000 on its 1st Day in the UK, and almost 3,200,000 in its 1st Week! It also sold over 2,225,000 on its 1st Day in the USA...
'The Greatest Showman' DVD sold 496,993 UK copies in its 1st Week. No-where near as many as the 'Mamma Mia!' DVD in 2008...
The Cher 'ABBA Album' may reach No.1 in the UK. Personally, I'm not expecting it to reach that high. I'm not expecting it to be No.1 in any Country. After all, it is really the same Songs that are still doing well on 'ABBA Gold'. Most of them have also done well on the 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Soundtrack. So, it may all be too much of the 'Same Old, Same Old', for Record Buyers. We will see...

'Mamma Mia! 2' has reached £64.9 Million at the UK Box Office, it becomes the UK's 14th 'All Time' Film. It replaces 'Jurassic World', (£64.5 Million - 2015), in 14th place. It also means that the 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film is only £3.7 Million behind the 1st Film, (£68.6 Million - 11th All Time Film), at the UK Box Office.

With potentially a few more weeks yet its possible to equal or surpass .. interesting Around 66 million could push it up 2 places and lie beside MM.

I've just found out, that the reason 'I Wonder' was cut from 'Mamma Mia! 2',' is because 'One Of Us' was also near the start of the Film. The Director felt that it was a 'risk' having '2 unknown ABBA songs', near the start, so the decision was taken to cut out 'I Wonder'! Completely ignoring the fact, that 'One Of Us' was not 'unknown' at all! It just was not a big Hit in the USA, and a few other Countries, but it was big in several European Markets, including No.1 in several, and a No.3 Hit, but 500,000+ seller in the UK. So, it is very stupid for the Film Makers to call it an 'unknown' ABBA Song! (Which means that they really removed 'I Wonder' for no reason - for a mistake). 'I Wonder' is a 'Bonus' Video Clip on the DVD.

Madonnabba - It looks like 'Mamma Mia! 2' will be unable to rise above the No.14 Position, that it now holds in the 'All Time' UK Box Office. It currently has £65.4 Million in UK takings, but it needs to take £600,000 more to move into 13th place. Its takings are now very low, so it will probably not achieve that, but, to end just 3 places below the 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Film, is a huge achievement. Especially as a lot of people were saying that it was going to 'Flop'! It has taken just under £400 Million Worldwide. Here are the UK's Top 40 All Time Box Office Films: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_the_United_Kingdom If you scroll down, there are several Film Lists there. The 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Film is the 8th biggest UK Film since 1989 and the 2nd one is the 11th. (That is British Films within the UK/British Market).

What's interesting to me is how successful something like this can be despite being absolute rubbish. The ORIGINAL songs which are the inspiration for the film(s) will remain timeless classics but the interpretations in these two films are abysmal.
Yes, just because something makes a shedload of money doesn't mean there's any quality to it. The storylines invented for these two films are atrocious. But clearly many people like it and trot out the usual line about feel-good escapism, etc.
I cannot wait for the two new ABBA songs. I'm sick to the back teeth of Mamma Mia! and everything surrounding it.

I don't know how 'Official' it is, but I've just seen a Site that claims 'Mamma Mia! 2' has reached $85,077,000 at the UK Box Office. That is £66,360,000+. If it is true, then the Film is no longer the 14th 'All Time' Film, in the UK. It is 12th! Which means that the 1st Film is right next to it - 11th.
With the Film being so huge, it is a huge shock, that the Soundtrack has yet to reach 300,000 UK Sales. It only has a UK Gold Sales Award - 100,000+. Its UK Sales are 284,500 - so far. It needs a further 15,500 Sales to go Platinum. (300,000). The 1st Film's Soundtrack had attracted far, far more UK interest. That is on over 1,570,000 Sales - 5 X Platinum. So the 2nd Film has been huge in the UK, but the Soundtrack did not really take off. Not to the extent of the 1st Film's Soundtrack, anyhow...

Madonnabba -- 'The Greatest Showman' was no-where near as big as 'Mamma Mia! 2' in the UK. It took around £50 Million.
It spent 18 Weeks in the UK's Weekly Top 10 Films - compared to 10 Top 10 Weeks for 'Mamma Mia! 2'. Despite that, it was not bringing in nearly as much cash, each Week.
'The Greatest Showman' Soundtrack has been huge in the UK. This Friday will see it have its 44th Top 10 Week - all Top 5. 'Mamma Mia! 2's Soundtrack was only in the Top 10 for 14 Weeks.
At present, it looks like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' will have a bigger impact on Queen's back catalogue, than either 'Mamma Mia!' Film had on ABBA's. Including doing something that ABBA last managed in May 1977, and Queen managed in February 1992...

Madonnabba -- In last Week's UK Album Chart 'Greatest Hits' by Queen dropped from No.35 to No.78. Their Triple CD - 'The Platinum Collection' - rose from No.90 to No.34. Also, The 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Soundtrack - credited to Queen - went in at No.5.
The Monday Mid Week's show a much bigger impact by the Queen Film. Despite this, the Soundtrack is not going to get to No.1. The Songs on it are also on other Queen releases.
The Monday Mid Week's show the Soundtrack up from 5 to 4. The Triple CD up from No.34 to No.7. (Its first Top 10 Week since 2002). 'Greatest Hits' has jumped from No.78 to No.25. There are also other Queen Albums that have re-entered the Mid Week Top 100. The Triple CD was originally a No.2 Hit in 2002.
So Queen have 2 Albums in the UK Top 10. They last did that on W/E 1st February 1992, when 'Greatest Hits II' was at No.4 and 'Greatest Hits' (One) was at No.9. They were in the Top 10 for 9 Weeks at the same time, but only the No.1 2nd Hits Album made the Top 5 in that time. 'Greatest Hits' (One) reached No.6. (It had been No.1 way back in 1981).
ABBA last had 2 Albums in the UK Top 10 on W/E 21st May 1977. 'Arrival' was at No.1 and 'Greatest Hits' was at No.9. It was their 17th Week in the Top 10 together. Unlike Queen, ABBA managed to put both Albums in the same Top 5. They did it for 4 Weeks. On W/E 15th January 1977 'Arrival' was at No.1 and 'Greatest Hits' was at No.2.

Not sure where it all started, perhaps it has to do with the top selling Albums, but the friendly rivalry between Queen and ABBA is interesting , though musically miles apart...

Graham - Check out this Post/Thread that I've just done: abbachat.boards.net/thread/1068/abba-queen-coincidences Lily James has suggested that Lady GaGa star in 'Mamma Mia! 3', (should it ever be made). She thinks that Lady GaGa could be shown even further back in time - playing Donna's Mother - Ruby - when she was younger. (A younger version of the Cher character, in other words). Personally, I think that 'Flashbacks' etc. just confuse people, and a 3rd Film should show the future and not the past. However, I doubt if there will be a 3rd Film. The Soundtrack would struggle to sell - as with Film 2 - and only the Film would be huge. As if the ABBA Songs don't matter. I find it very sad that the Soundtrack to Film 2 has sold so poorly. It has yet to reach 290,000 UK Sales, after Soundtrack 1 sold over 1.5 Million. It has sold no-where near a Global Million, and Soundtrack 1 has sold around 7,800,000 Worldwide...
