Think the hair is actually pretty much spot on if its from around early 1975. Like when ABBA appeared on the 'Eddy Go Round' show in the Netherlands. Thankfully, she at least grew it longer then switched to the 'page' cut later in the year.

There were a number of people closely associated with the group members who contributed their insights. Lola Murray, who is a long-time friend of Agnetha's and Ingmarie Halling from The Museum. But it wasn't a sanctioned 'ABBA' or Universal/Polar production. It's possible that those who agreed to participate, had approached the ABBA members themselves with the reasoning that it was probably better that they gave the programme some balance. The production was likely to go ahead without them and it could have been a hell of a lot worse had they drafted in the usual 'talking heads' z-list celebs instead, regurgitating the same old myths surrounding the group. People like Claes af Geijerstam and Mike Watson as well as the aforementioned at least worked with them so could provide some legitimacy.
The programme did state from the outset that although the telling of ABBA's story was based on real events, there would be scenes of 'fictional dramatisation'. And it's the 'drama' parts that probably irritate the most. In short, they were guessing how certain characters were reacting in situations, some traumatic. I can sort of get over the female actresses not looking like Agnetha and Frida, if the acting is good enough and believable. But some of the sets like the recording studio and the inside of a plane were laughably cheap and ludicrous. They could surely also have searched farther and wider for actors who didn't need wigs to play Benny and Bjorn too.
Not sure what to make of it in total. I think they tried to be respectful but in a ham-fisted way (If that makes sense). For many ABBA fans, the private lives and troubles of the group members should be left well alone as long as they wish it so. And no actor/actress is going to fully do justice to any of the group members. But ABBA obviously still 'sells' and these sort of productions are aimed at a wider audience than those of us who inhabit fan sites.

Next Monday night, December 18th at 9pm, Channel 5 is showing a two hour long docu-drama on ABBA, focussing mainly on the experiences of the female half of the group.
Not sure whether to look forward to this or not, as it looks like they will be delving into some rather personal matters regarding the two A's. The four actresses assigned to play Agnetha and Frida (younger and more mature versions) are English and hopefully there will be no dreadful 'Swenglish' employed.
'ABBA in Concert' immediately follows this programme.

According to this image from the TV programme detailing the 1979 North America tour, Frida had reverted back to 'Lyngstad' on a later passport. Somehow, I just can't imagine a modern celebrity having their passport details made so public.

'Knowing Me Knowing You' is an ABBA classic. Although Ville Valo didn't faithfully follow the original hook of ending the 'breaking up is never easy, I know' lines on a upnote, I thought he did a good job on it.
I don't see anything wrong with the way he sang those lines. In the original, the line goes 'Breaking up is never easy, I know' finishes with the 'I know' words on rising notes. Ville Valo does the opposite. It's not a biggie and depends on personal taste.

Being also a Rock nut, I like to see any cover versions in that particular genre. Sargent Fury could never match the A & F vocals but did a nice take on 'Eagle'.
There is of course Therion's symphonic metal version of 'Summer Night City'.

The coloured vinyl singles sets appear to be selling well on eBay. I've just counted around 14 sold at the £60 mark so far, including a couple at £70. Number 1 of the 2000 was sold for just over £300 including postage. Significant as the number might be, is it really worth that? My £34 one (including postage) is starting to look like a real bargain! Disappointing how so many just see these as a money making exercise. £300 ?!!! Box No. 1976 seemed to be the one everyone was also keen on getting.

The first time I ever clapped eyes on this album cover, I thought 'Liz Taylor'.

Well, we've heard how Phil and Stig Anderson had a brief but fractious relationship. But who knew it came to this? Phil Collins has just released an autobiography titled 'Not Dead Yet'. Here he is reading an excerpt about the making of the album, Frida and Stig. Relevant section of the audiobook starts at 5:43:25

CHEESE

Post by chelseacharger on Sept 15, 2016 8:23:50 GMT
We all have our thresholds when it comes to what is termed 'cheesy' or 'corny'. Overly sentimental, reminiscing over long lost love or battles gone by. A lot of it stems from the groups cultural roots and influences, Schlager/Scandinavian folk music. Melodrama and melancholy. I love the melancholy side of ABBA but there are one or two of even their best known songs that 'lay it on to thick'. Others can't get it thick enough. So yes, even if we know they produced some 'cheesy' stuff, then non-fans are going to have a much harsher view. I think though, most are basing their judgement on a select number of songs. If I felt that strongly about it, I'd make up a CD/MP3 containing 'SOS'. 'Knowing Me Knowing You', 'I'm A Marionette', 'The Name Of The Game', 'Eagle', 'The Visitors', 'Summer Night City', 'Should I Laugh Or Cry', 'The Day Before You Came'. Title it 'Cheese Free' and plonk that down in front of her. She might think I'd taken her criticism a bit to personally though.

When you factor in everything, the years away from the stage, shortness of rehearsal so much so that B & B were seemingly unaware it was even going to happen, the nerves and emotion of the occasion and of course, their ages, it's a fabulous rendition. Mamma Mia- The Party, Benny at the Fan Club weekend, an 'Arrival' 40th anniversary commemoration and hopefully a Aussie tour live album to come too. What a great year for ABBA fans.
