Any debate about Abba is fun for me! With regards to the Instagram countdown this is what remains. I'm not exactly sure if dreamworld and I am the city will ultimately be included...
1. Dreamworld 2. The piper 3. Lay all your love on me 4. The way old friends do 5. Put on your white sombrero 6. One of us 7. Should I laugh or cry 8. The Visitors 9. Head over heels 10. When all is said and done 11. Soldiers 12. I let the music speak 13. Two for the price of one 14. Slipping through my fingers 15. Like an angel 16. The day before you came 17. Cassandra 18. Under attack 19. You owe me one 20. I am the city

Let the speculations begin !!! I don’t mind the thoughts of others, It’s harmless fun really, nothing is true until it actually happens...... Potentially 20 odd days to end of countdown ... then Anticlimax or euphoric expectations...
We will see....

I for one would like this to happen - 1st single September, 2nd single just before Christmas, then new album 2022 to mark their 50th anniversary! a marketing dream I think!

Maybe the reason that 'speculation' has gone quiet is that we've all had since April 2018 to do it and we've all now worn ourselves out? :-)

I just hope that they schedule the 1982 posts so that You Owe Me One is not the last one. It's a fun song but not exactly the ideal high note on which to finish! As for the speculations, hypotheses, and fantasy release programmes - BRING IT ON! Those are the things that have kept conversations alive here. My fingers are still crossed for some news later this month.

In any event come Saturday we will commence with The Visitors and into the home stretch!

Ok, probably in the wrong thread, but I'm guessing the few of us that are contributing these days look at this post the most. I'm hoping once we actually get more news the busier the site will be.
Just out of curiosity more than anything, plus it being a rather dull boring English summer afternoon... it was something to do.....
Data from UK official Charts site.. Here are the top Artists that have spent more than 1000 weeks on the UK Album chart. ( just to complicate things the UK only recognizes the top 75 places so the fact that Gold has surpassed 1000 weeks its self only refers to the top 100, so ironically Gold has " only spent " 728 weeks in the official top 75 Album charts up to this week. So officially 278 weeks are not counted. Personally i wish the OCC would make up its mind.. by now there is enough to officially publish a top 100.. but no they stick to 75.. !!!! Any way here goes , please feel free to amend ...lol
1. Queen 1811 weeks 2. Beatles, 1581 3. Michael Jackson, 1512 4. Fleetwood Mac, 1510 5. Elvis Presley, 1497 6. David Bowie, 1412 7. Oasis, 1301 8. ABBA , 1300 9. Elton John, 1241 10. Rod Stewert, 1178 11. Madonna, 1153 12. Ed Shereen, 1132 13. U2, 1100 14. Simon and Garfunkel, 1087. 15. bubbling under.. Cliff Richard. 911 weeks.

Of course - and we know this, don't we (?), although we may often forget it - such a chart is not necessarily about any intrinsic musical worth, just popular musical taste. Worth pointing out from time to time, I think. We all know ABBA are better than Queen, so why won't Queen fans agree with us? 😀 Just a little joke, and no offense intended!

Hello again, fellow ABBA Fans. I know that I, (and others), sometimes say 'controversial' things, in this Thread. It is not done to 'wind' anyone up. For my part, I am just saying what I am thinking at the time.
I know that some Fans don't like the idea, that New ABBA Singles may struggle in the Charts, due to Streaming. They think that it is being too pessimistic, to say such things. Some Fans are expecting New ABBA Songs, to stroll to No.1 - with no effort needed. All I can say is that it will be very difficult, for New ABBA Singles to do that. As usual, (these Days), Streaming works against 'Old' Acts. We will see if ABBA can overcome that huge hurdle. I'd love ABBA to have more Top 10 Singles, and even No.1 Singles. But, it won't be easy.
In the meantime ABBA's 'Thank You For The Music' Single, has just gone Silver, in the UK. It is for 200,000, UK Sales, since March 2004. It is far more than its UK Sales in 1983. It reached No.33 then, and sold about 25,000 to 30,000 copies.

It doesn't really bother me whether any new ABBA songs go into the singles charts around the world or not. I think of that chart as just lists of songs for teenagers these days. Precious few of those will be interested in a new ABBA track. I will just be enjoying listening to the new music. I agree, though, with the earlier premise that any new album would likely go to number 1 - reputation and curiosity would generate many sales even before any tracks were heard.

Does the 20000 sales landmark for TYFTM refer to the number of downloads of the song from any album since March 2004, as I don't recall it being released as an official single since then, apart from as the B-side of "Eagle" on vinyl. In the UK, we had it as a single in 1983 and 1992. If only they had released it as the third single from The Album in 1978, I think it would have been another UK No 1. Silver used to be for 25000. When did that change?

They think that it is being too pessimistic, to say such things. I don't think any of your sales predictions for possible singles released by ABBA are controversial at all, and I think many of us are quite resigned now about the fact that we may never see another single of theirs reach the top 10, let alone #1, regrettable though that may be. As others have said, though, it will be simply wonderful to hear their new material, their voices again, regardless of how commercially successful any of it becomes. It will be sheer joy to all ABBA fans once we hear these songs. The only thing I found odd was your comment which basically said "Fans don't seem to realise that it matters not what any of us want to happen, everything is out of our control, we have no influence on anything at all, so it is utterly pointless to speculate about the new material" I wanted to point out to you that this is what nearly everyone does about practically EVERYTHING. Almost everyone enjoys discussing what the future holds across every conceivable topic (be it politics, music, and other trends), even though we know full well we have little influence on what actually eventuates. Otherwise, I love your input here, Colin, and long may you keep contributing. You are a much-cherished and valuable asset to ABBA fandom.

I agree completely any new ABBA song will struggle to make the top 100 in the current way of compiling the uk singles chart. However , universal music made a very strange comment on their latest article regarding the new 4K videos. They mentioned super trouper being their last uk no.1 single, but then qualified the statement by adding "for now " in brackets! Perhaps they know something we don't!!

I've a feeling how misguided I may be.. but These companies know the state of the UK charts and will know if its just an awareness single or one they want to be a big hit.. and i can see this wanting to be enormous.... I believe physical sales are the way to go as more weighted... so all formats i expect... but those fingers are still crossed....

Gamleman -- The Totals needed, for UK Record Sales Awards, changed on 1st January 1989. On that Date a Platinum Single was reduced from 1 Million to 600,000. A Gold Single was reduced from 500,000 to 400,000. A Silver Single was reduced from 250,000 to 200,000.
jj -- 'Thank You For The Music' has gone Silver, due to it being Downloaded, at least 200,000 times, since March 2004. It was not Re-Issued, as a Single, in that time. They are its Downloads - as a Track - since March 2004. They are counted, no matter which Album they are Downloaded from. Or simply, it being Downloaded from ABBA's Track List. There are some Streaming 'Sales' in there, too, but that was only added to the UK Charts in 2014.
We will see what happens to any New ABBA Songs. I have noticed that some Fans get angry, at the very idea, that the Songs may not reach the Top 10, or No.1. They see it as 100% 'Obvious', that the Songs will be huge Hits. They think that any Fans, who have the least doubt, are being disloyal to ABBA. The trouble is, that such Fans take no account - at all - of Streaming now dominating the World's Singles Charts, and making it far, far harder for 'Old' Acts, to reach the Top 10 and No.1. It is facing reality, and it has nothing to do with being, 'disloyal' to ABBA. Recent Years have seen: Elton John, Madonna, Queen, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Kylie Minogue, Steps, and Westlife, all struggle to have Top 10 Hits. We'll see if ABBA can succeed, where the rest all failed to manage it. We will see. (Bear in mind, that I 100% want ABBA to have more No.1 Singles, and Top 10 Hits. Of course I do!).

First, thanks to onlyabba4meagain for the info about the sales awards and TYFTM.
Going back to justabba's post, I would take the "for now" comment with a pinch of salt, as I have little confidence that the people who put out the social media posts for ABBA have any in-depth knowledge of the group and their plans. If I were ABBA and their record company, I would probably avoid the Singles charts altogether in this day and age - I wouldn't give the Media the opportunity to make a big song and dance about ABBA's new single failing to chart or charting relatively poorly. The way I would go would to put out an ABBAtars video of a 'promo single' to promote the album featuring the new songs, but only allow the purchase of the songs as part of the album. However, they could perhaps issue limited editions of the promo single on CD and vinyl for the hard-core fans, thereby avoiding full physical and digital single releases.
But I have a question... Is it even possible to circumnavigate the Singles chart these days? If they did put out a promotional video on Youtube, would streamings of this video automatically contribute towards the Singles chart?

I suppose the one thing different that a new ABBA song/single will bring is that it will be the COMEBACK to end all others - none of the older acts such as Madonna and Queen could ever get that kind of impetus with a new release.
It will be a 'one-off' circumstance, really - and it will be interesting to see. Right now, probably 99% of the public who heard the news about the 'new ABBA songs' in April 2018 have forgotten about them. We could be in a very different place in a few weeks' time. Exciting, isn't it? I'm prepared for all the 'Oh, it doesn't sound like Dancing Queen or Super Trouper' comments from the public (or, from the more hardcore fans, 'It sounds just like BAO!'.....).
I also bet that Björn Again are covering the songs onstage within a couple of weeks of release....

Yes to all of this. I think the first single will be the one with the biggest potential to crack the charts in any shape or form. An ABBAtars performance video will lose its novelty impact on any subsequent releases. I still believe there will be subsequent "buzz" singles, pushed to radio to maintain momentum for any EP or album that might follow - but they're probably unlikely to become "hits" in the sense ABBA were used to. Once the unknown-number-of-songs EP/album is out there, it becomes a de facto set of singles for fans/the public to stream, for radio to play according to their preferences. If the ABBAtars wrinkles are all ironed out and their performances can be easily mustered, then I wonder if there's scope to have all of the new songs "performed" for a TV special or DVD album or whatever?

Honestly, I'm not sure but I hope so - I'm only posting the picture and information here that I found on social media so I hope it's correct! Of course, with no official announcement, this becomes messy - for example, some people have said that Frida has been seen in Stockholm, with others refuting it. I suppose a bit of drama and mystery is to be expected, with how long we have waited thus far!
