Thanks Johnny, I blame Radio 1 for their ignorance of ABBA's comeback and not playing the two new songs. Although I read a comment I think it was on ABBAchat that DSMD was begrudgingly played by one of the DJ's. Both songs would have fared much better if Radio 1 had played them. That station hasn't a clue about timeless music. They just praise the contemporary acts. Saying that, we should be thankful that DSMD peaked at No 9 and ISHFIY at No 14. That is still a great achievement for ABBA.

Does anyone know if Agnetha actually sings the lyric 'I Still Have Faith In You' because I only hear Frida everytime on that particular lyric I know Agnetha is more audible in the chorus.

Thank you Alan for taking on the responsibility and keeping us in order...lol
OK... has the rumour mill stopped working regarding Just A Notion ? I've seen nothing since a little flutter of gossip a few days ago and nothing coming from that Clapperboard snippet... In fact its gone quiet !!!

Adam, Frida is on lead vocals but Agnetha joins in towards the end of the verses and in the chorus regarding ISHFIY. I have heard from a source that both Benny and Bjorn actually join in the chorus. I may be mistaken.

Phew..... Adele's new album 30, is to be released on 19th November, according to the UK official Charts Company.. which hopefully means Voyage has a two week gap between Ed Sheeran and Adele to get to number one... fingers crossed....

Foreverfan, that is a relief. Let's hope ABBA receive more media exposure than either Adele or Ed Sheeran.

Hi Martin! Do you mean the ABBAMAIL website? That was a great source of information. Pity they were forced to stop... Yes, Michal, I guess that was the name... ...When you say they were 'forced to stop', what do you mean? They ran out of money? Martin Well, yes and no. Nobody actually knows the truth. As you probably remember, they were selling unofficial stuff (concert recordings, fan-made videos, photos etc.). They even used to publish a catalogue. I bought a few CDs from them (quite expensive) back then and I must admit I have never seen them on Discogs, eBay or anywhere else, so I guess they must be extremely rare these days. They said they were financing the web with the money from the sales. But the inevitable happened and in 2006 Universal Music forced ABBAMail to stop selling this stuff, Graeme and Grant were taken to a court and they went very bitter and closed the site, claiming that they don't have means to finance it. They even announced they no longer consider themselves ABBA fans.

More on Just a Notion from PopJustice. The same person that revealed the news has posted again, claiming to have heard it:
“Oct 22. Just A Notion sounds great. You guys will love it.”
We’ll see. It’s just eight days away so should be some official news soon if it’s happening.
PopJustice is a credible forum, and not in the business of revealing fake news. The credibility of those posting it would be questioned.

As something went wrong with the poll, and the name of the topic was subsequently changed anyway, I have deleted that topic and poll and merged the six posts from it into this one.
I noted that four of five people that were able to vote actually voted to keep the “Can It Be True?” name (I hadn’t voted myself).
I don’t want to upset people so if anyone is unhappy with the name change, feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post it on here. It can be changed back as easily as it was changed in the first place. I’d do a new poll but after the problems with the last one, I’m put off that idea! I still can’t understand how a few could vote but many others couldn’t!

Hello Alan
I like the new name. As I asked about a page ago, is it technically possible to take the posts up to Sept and call them something like BUILDUP TO VOYAGE and then from Sept, a title like THE VOYAGE HAS BEGUN?
Just an idea?

mjc / Martin, it’s an idea but I have to take on board what others have said. The aim is not to have too many topics with similar stuff in, and most of all not to put anyone off from posting!

More from the same person on PopJustice regarding Just A Notion. I’ve copied and pasted it exactly as written, but if they haven’t heard the original demo, I don’t know how they can know there are old vocals on it:
a mixed of old and new vocals but mostly old from what I heard. The chorus is definitely old vocals but some of the adlibs are new. Agnetha voice during the chorus gives me life!!! I never heard the demo but the final mix sounds a lot like Why did it have to be me and Waterloo.

Sounds a lot like "Why Did Have To Be Me" - some may disagree, but that doesn't inspire confidence. I hope Bjorn doesn't take the lead vocal in the verses

Odd. If they haven't heard the demo, I don't see how they can suggest it's "old vocals." As for the WDIHTBM and Waterloo references, I imagine it has something to do with the beat - that old country-leaning/1950s/rock'n'roll swing of the basic track. I would be astonished if ABBA had not rerecorded the song from scratch - why would they put 43-year-old vocals in such close proximity to vocals recorded in the last 4 years? They'd be setting themselves up for all sorts of shady comparisons.
Maybe they think the vocals are so good that they sound like they could have come from the 70s??

Yes, the comparisons are probably connected with a swinging beat but I'm guessing it may well have a saxophone in it. I like the saxophone. I just hope it doesn't harp back to the 50s and 60s, and sound dated. I'd prefer the pace of "Waterloo" too, as WDIHTBM is a bit ploddy.

I asked the question on there and this is the answer I got:
“Because her voice sounds exactly like the old days. Very powerful and clear”
I’m assuming they think Agnetha’s voice doesn’t sound powerful or clear on the two other songs.
Just A Notion would have been recorded on analog tape, whereas the new album is surely a digital recording. Could they marry-up the two in one song?
Raises a lot of questions. I’m slightly disappointed if this is true. Using 43-year-old vocals on an album that is otherwise only four-years-old at its maximum seems an odd thing to do. Still, it leaves seven completely new songs still to be heard.

I'm more intrigued by the opening sentence - Well Just A Notion Is - that follows a JLT comment. The use of the word 'Well' seems oddly placed.

I doubt there's much to be disappointed with here @alan. I'm sure it's just excited commentary about how fresh the vocal sound is. Maybe it's that the key of JAN might be better suited to Agnetha's voice than DSMD? I think her voice sounds great on DSMD - the notes are short and punchy, she has reined in her vibrato (which is quite modern). I'd say this is a case of Agnetha being on top of her game.
I'm interested in how the leadvocals might be distributed. When I saw JAN on the tracklist, I imagined it was going to be in the "third voice" like the original. Maybe it still is: in the demo, the two voices seem to "separate" in a great harmony in the chorus, allowing you to hear what each woman is singing at the same time.
Anyway, let's just look forward to what's coming. The Popjustice source is very positive about the track.

Alan , Post #2350 on Popjustice Ah, I see. The bit I posted on here was partially hidden by a “Spoiler” button on there, so it’s all one sentence. “Well Just a Notion is a mixed [sic] of old and new vocals…”

Worth pointing out that the first two singles were released straight after the announcement in the live stream on 2 Sept. It’s possible that Just A Notion may not be announced until Friday 22 Oct and become available straightaway. We may get some teasers next week that there is some news coming though.
