Just spoke with a website that lists all forthcoming releases and they were under the impression it was coming tomorrow! Hope so, it will be amazing!

So we could be hearing the single in a matter of a few hours...? I guess bedtime will be at least three-and-a-half minutes after midnight!

All this toying with my emotions! Won't somebody think of the middle-aged geezers needing new ABBA product?!

I noted that four of five people that were able to vote actually voted to keep the “Can It Be True?” name (I hadn’t voted myself). I don’t want to upset people so if anyone is unhappy with the name change, feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post it on here. It can be changed back as easily as it was changed in the first place. I’d do a new poll but after the problems with the last one, I’m put off that idea! I still can’t understand how a few could vote but many others couldn’t! I was one of them but I actually think the name doesn't really matter ;-) By the way... now that so many posts are added in a short time it would make sense to create more threads, as this one is getting harder to follow (quoting a post three pages back seems irrelevant). But this tempo is unlikely to last very long, I suppose.

[...] I just hope it doesn't harp back to the 50s and 60s, and sound dated. I'd prefer the pace of "Waterloo" too, as WDIHTBM is a bit ploddy. Just trying to foster a little interest in other parts of the forum: for anyone with the time and inclination, there was a very interesting thread (imo), a couple of years ago, in The Music section, which discussed the idea of 'dated' when it comes to music. abbachat.com/thread/1211/which-tracks-haven-datedFashion and styles in popular music come and go, with tweaks here and there, and some might argue that DSMD is dated because it sounds a lot like ABBA of old. Personally, the concept of 'dated' means very little to me: do I like the music or not? (Regardless of era and style - though I accept that a person may find a certain style, in itself, unappealing.) I love WDIHTBM - and not forgetting Frida's exhuberant, life-enhancing performance of it in Australia. 😉 But I also hope and trust that Just A Notion has newly-recorded vocals for the Voyage album.

I’m assuming they think Agnetha’s voice doesn’t sound powerful or clear on the two other songs. Just A Notion would have been recorded on analog tape, whereas the new album is surely a digital recording. Could they marry-up the two in one song? Raises a lot of questions. I’m slightly disappointed if this is true. Using 43-year-old vocals on an album that is otherwise only four-years-old at its maximum seems an odd thing to do. Still, it leaves seven completely new songs still to be heard. I can kinda understand what he/she is saying. Agnetha was quite the belter back in the day and she had a sharp, reedy tone that cut through whatever else was going on around her musically. While the new songs are lovely, her vocals are soft and don't quite have that bright, punchy quality of yore. I would be shocked if Agnetha today can belt out the high harmony of JAN like she did in the old demo.

Exactly! Both voices have dropped about a tone, according to Bjorn. Even if it's a brand new backing track, it'll have to be in a different key. If they brought vocal tracks from the old tapes, they'd have to adjust the tuning for the new track. I can't see Benny and Bjorn going to all that hassle when they have two super talented singers in the room.

I didn't think DSMD sounded date at all. Sure, it had some classic ABBA flourishes in it, but its overall sound is solidly contemporary. If anything, the only real concession to retro in this track is the fact that it is a complex song with key changes, a bridge and counter-melodies - all things that have become largely stripped from modern music.
I actually hope JAN is fully, shamelessly retro with jangly guitars, plonky piano and a chugging swing beat punctuated by saxophones. That would be a fitting nod to their pre-Arrival rock sound. It seems that ABBA is known for just their disco/pop era when in actuality they were a pretty kickass rock n roll act before the superstardom.

I realised as I was typing the word 'dated' above that it should also apply to the music of the 70s, 80s... up to just before the present day. However, to me musical styles don't change as much now as they did back in my youth of the 70s and 80s, and it feels like they have been static for the past 20 years or so, probably because I'm getting old. But am I not right in thinking that some styles of the 70s are trendy again? Some ABBA songs do have the hallmarks of the 70s/80s while others are relatively timeless. Regarding WDIHTBM, it does seem to have a 50s/60s vibe, which I wasn't fond of in the 70s and I'm almost certain isn't en vogue nowadays. Doesn't it have the type of beat that people used to do the slosh (dance) to? I remember attending a wedding in 1977 and people doing the slosh to "Happy Hawaii" (which I actually much prefer). I'd prefer JAN to take more from "Waterloo" than WDIHTBM.

What is a "slosh?" LOL I tend to agree that modern music has been kind of stuck in amber for quite a while. But you can pretty much say the same about fashion, architecture and art as well. I suspect this has something to do with the hyper-connectedness we are dealing with; nobody dares to do anything bold and daring for fear of getting roasted in the comments. Anyway, the 70s/80s were wacky decades. Sure, they certainly had their own iconic fashion trends. But there were also some headscratchers. The 50s were made trendy again in the mid 70s, probably thanks to "Happy Days," "American Graffiti," "Sha Na Na" and variety shows that revived the careers of washed up actors/musicians from that era. I assume this directly impacted ABBA's sound at the time. For example, you can hear the DNA of Fats Domnino's "Blueberry Hill" in "I Do I Do I Do." WDIHTBM follows very closely in that vein. JAN sounds like a Beach Boys single from the early 60s, which makes it a smidge more modern, but, yeah... it's a date sound. And I'm okay with that! I would be disappointed if they rendered a 2021-sounding version of JAN.

Oops that ateen guy that posted all about just a notion is very upset people have been screenshoting and spreading his information! Yes, I’ve just seen it. I haven’t screenshot anything though, I’ve merely copied and pasted what was in their posts! They were a bit naive to think it was a private forum that no one but members can see. They’ve had a few replies saying it’s public and if it’s posted on there, it will spread. Guessing this means we’ll no longer have that source of information. They’ve deleted all their posts about it on there, but there’s a post of mine where I quoted theirs. I thought about deleting it but changed my mind.

Given how close to the album release date we're getting, I'm guessing that JAN will be more of a "buzz track" than a full blown-single. I have a feeling we might not get any physical editions. But maybe we'll get a video?

Just to add to the thoughts of JAN being released , its also mentioned on UKMIX and 22nd October...to be honest its the first place I've seen it being mentioned as a release... So rumours seem to be positive.
I guess we are all intrigued to see what has been done with the track. If a "buzz track " why announce its a single ? I sometimes think I'm so far out of the loop these days.. but surely if its a release then I would guess they do actually, as in Universal, want a hit.......whether they get it is another story of course...
Saying that Ive heard so many recent tracks lately from Retro or whatever word you like to call old acts, and some are pretty decent, Duran Duran springs to mind with "Anniversary " very very Duran Duran and played quite a bit on you guessed it UK Radio 2. A hit....NO....
I'm beginning to realize ( always late to the party..lol ) that the singles chart has very little to do with anything I like anymore !! Adele ( not a fan really ) will get to the top yet again with her new dirge.. nothing new based on the track...which is a shame, just hope being kind for her sake, that the new album is not in the same vein... guess it shows how musical tastes change and the public I was going to say youth ! cant get enough of Adele and Ed.. no accounting for taste.. I expect my parents said the same about me and ABBA ..lol... full circle....
I think i should write 500 lines of ...........

Totally agree about Adele. Her new song is miserable and depressing. Who knew Adele could be like that? Lol

The article says it is the 8th best-selling UK vinyl single this year, I think - not the top one.

Heard the Adele single. Nothing new there. She leaves me cold and wanting to switch stations. Really bored about living her life out with each album release. If you want to explain to your son why you are getting divorced....sit down and talk to him. Not here listen to this. She needs to get over herself. People with real problems in the world and not of their own making. Thankfully we have Abba who give us variety in their music and beautiful harmonies.

Totally agree about Adele. Her albums just one long self-pitying whinge lasting an hour.
They are cut up randomly to make the individual tracks. All sound the same.
Her new video has got 19 million views in 11 hours!
More than DSMD and not too far behind ISHFIY which have been out 6 weeks.
Lots of sad people out there just putting her maudlin monologues on repeat.
She likes me too. 😃

I'm really trying to be un-bias and impartial... but my gosh its a real dirge and slash wrists sort of song, ( no offence ) but she really needs to move on from this...or that's the end of her, I think even die hard's will find it hard to listen to.... UK radio 2 has made it record of the week !!!!
