Hi jj! Couldn't agree more! I was so happy when they announced the new album. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect any new songs a few years ago and now a full album! And it was so special to see the clips of them all in the studio! I, personally, don't know what I would have done without ABBA music in my life, it has helped get me through some low points, but also been there to enhance the good times. ABBA owe me nothing, but I owe them more than words can say.

I know not that many of us are concerned about chart positions here in the UK, However Id just like to see them keep there top 40 positions intact, with JAN being at 26 in the mid weeks its not looking promising...alas.. That said I've noticed a lot of us are getting JAN from non UK websites, ( seriously not criticizing) I believe that these will not count to UK totals, please correct me if I'm wrong... Also there appears to be a delay in dispatches in the UK, my question is .. if paid for in the UK but not dispatched is that still counted ? Sales are counted towards the chart once the CD is despatched to you. If you bought online from Amazon.co.uk or the Official ABBA Voyage site, those sales will count towards the chart. I don't know about the Dutch site, but am guessing not. I have had a confirmation this morning from the Voyage store that they have sent my JAN CD to me now.

You need to order from UK site for it to count for UK sales.
Clearly ordering from a Dutch site or ABBA Museum won't count.
Vogage site will sent person to the Voyage version of their country.
I would imagine sales count as long as paid for (when released) but dispatch could be delayed for a variety of reasons.

Mine arrived today. I really love the artwork, much better than either of the previous two singles.
It doesn’t state exactly when the new parts of it were recorded. It gives Polar Studios, 1978 and RMV Studios, Stockholm 2017-2021.
The lyrics don’t include the last two lines, presumably because they are new. Thankfully they’ve got the “you’re” correct.

Out of interest Alan did you order from abba voyage? I ordered 0730am on 18th as soon as it came online? Still nothing received nor even an email to say its been dispatched. Really disappointed.

I did yes. Did you get a confirmation email when you ordered it? Just checked and mine was received at 10:50am on Monday 18th. Have they debited the amount from your account? Should be £5.94 including postage.

My platenzaak delivery arrived this morning. Like Alan, I'm loving the artwork. I only gave the credits a cursory once-over before leaving the house for the day, but I'll pore over them later. TBH, but I haven't played any of the CD singles (yet) or the ISHFIY vinyl (yet). I wonder if Universal are hoping that we're ordering these as ornaments and, therefore, not paying too much attention to the sound quality? Was it a rush release, with speed compromising the quality control measures? Does anyone know (Colin, maybe?) whether these midweek deliveries might enhance the single's chart fortunes this week? I have to say that I've been very pleasantly surprised by its early placings - I thought it would suffer the fate of many buzz tracks and miss the charts entirely. I've also heard it on the radio more often than the current No.1 single.

Justabba, you are not alone. I haven't received my copy of JAN yet but I did receive confirmation that CD has been dispatched yesterday evening. Hopefully it should arrive this week. You do feel disappointed and as Alan pointed out yesterday the service is a little on the slow side but that may be due to the dreaded pandemic that we can never get away from. You have my sympathy as I am in the same boat.

Have literally just received the dispatch notice for my JAN CD Single from the UK Voyage store. They don't seem very organised. I've ordered five versions of the album on CD from them as well as one each from HMV and Amazon UK. Will be interesting to see who dispatches the album first

Hi Pixi. Welcome to the forum. Don't worry I think the pandemic will have some impact on shipping and dispatch. I am still waiting for my copy of JAN and received confirmation of dispatch yesterday. Fingers crossed !

There is one glaring error on the credits…. Assistant is spelt “Assistent”. Other than that, it’s correct.
I always download CDs into my iTunes, so have done so with all the CD singles so far. I played the CD in my iMac and it sounded OK, but I think it’s the mixing of the track that’s really the issue. Time will tell if it sounds better on the album CD.

I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m rather sad when they say “this is it” no more ABBA… as we have so much to look forward to! And they’ve said “no” for long enough in the past. Just in the chorus they chime “we’ve only just arrived!” Roll on 5th November.

^^^^ yes quite sad.. saying that there is no more ABBA already... and This is it...
We must look at the positives to come and its not over by a long way...

Yes, grumpy Benny has to put a damper on it already by saying that that’s it and two unfinished songs will remain that way. Also confirms that Agnetha and Frida will not be involved in promotional activities. I wonder if Agnetha looks back at the promotion she did for “A” back in 2013 in a negative way? She seemed so comfortable with it at the time.
Great to see a decent photo of them at last though. Hopefully this time they were all actually stood together. The motion-capture outfits photo appears to be a composite.

2 unfinished tracks....... "...and are going to stay that way." Some more teasing stuff for Undeleted 2.0? Thanks. Kinda perverted sense of humor)) I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m rather sad when they say “this is it” no more ABBA… as we have so much to look forward to! And they’ve said “no” for long enough in the past. Never ever shall I count on 'goodbye' speeches by artists. [keeping in mind the third album on the way since 'ending on a high note' by a-ha] I only watch and enjoy, enjoy and watch.

Well, I didn't expect another studio album but this means there won't be any extra tracks for a further release of "Voyage" or for a 50-year retrospective album (be that in 2022 or 2024). To leave us with the knowledge that there were two unfinished tracks that will never be finished was a bit unnecessary. This seems a rather negative message before "Voyage" has even been released but perhaps B&B felt the need to make all of this clear so that they can draw a line under ABBA and enjoy their retirements (and I hope they do). It's as if they're saying "that's it from us, now over to the ABBAtars". I wonder whether the final track of the album "Ode to Freedom" refers to their own freedom. I was amused by Benny saying of Agnetha and Frida "they haven’t been doing much for the last 40 years". I dare say A&F may not agree - despite being labelled as a recluse, since the ABBA days Agnetha has put out 5 studio albums in English plus a Christmas album in Swedish, various 'Greatest Hits' albums and an autobiography. I was also amused by the headline photo in which Frida looks like she's being naughty, unable to conceal her giggles

To leave us with the knowledge that there were two unfinished tracks that will never be finished was a bit unnecessary. Exactly. No need to make final statements. Of any kind. At all. In this particular case it makes us free to demand: if you have said A, you must also say B. What's the point of doing so? I wonder whether the final track of the album "Ode to Freedom" refers to their own freedom. Hmm... They have never been obliged to create 'Voyage' - they just did what they wanted (and enjoyed it I guess), so I won't fall for them complaining or the like. N-nope. Or do they hope to stop any further speculations and questions in such a way? Ha-ha, n-nope again)

A really lovely article - and made all the better by the fact that it's written by a genuine, respectful-not-hysterical fan, Alexis Petridis. The new studio photos are fantastic - as is the new composite headline photo, mimicking the pose for the motion-capture image that we've seen everywhere for a couple of months.
I can't believe that m/any of us had serious expectations that another album was a realistic prospect. Like, really?! As with Just Like That and I Am The City in 1982, ABBA head off into the sunset teasing us about the existence of two new songs. This time, they've preempted some of the demand and declared them unfinished. We don't know if the songs moved beyond the writing stage and/or the demo stage to a point where - like Frida's Shot Down In Action - they simply walked away mid-session with the discordant clang of instruments being dropped on the floor and someone suggesting Deliveroo.
I like that we get some history on the shape of the show's evolution - especially that ABBA themselves nixed the idea of holograms and pushed to deliver the new music in the absence of a definite show. That the video for ISHFIY is what led to the next chapter. Given his credentials and history, I hope that Baillie Walsh has been asked to develop a proper documentary. Not just for the show, but for the entire span of the ABBA history. A proper music-focused documentary is long overdue.

From the moment the new album was announced, at which I was beside myself with joy, I knew full well that this was going to be their last hurrah. Were many fans not aware that this was an extraordinary project, that this would be the last album ever??!!
Wow! I'm very surprised older fans didn't get it that this was ABBA bowing out, their final curtain, and that they were finally giving us the closure they failed to give us in December 1982.
I knew that this would be it, and I was extremely grateful that they were offering their loyal fans this parting gift - a whole new album.

I thought the article was insightful, well-written and enjoyable, filling in some of the history of the "ABBA Voyage" show. But as I indicated above, the declarations from B&B at the end left me feeling deflated.
Some oddities I picked up... "Put On Your White Sombrero" was lumped in with B-A-B and DDD as 1970s ABBA songs when it actually didn't see the light of day until 1994 and was recorded in 1980 (or was it 1979?). Later on, the article talks about the stress of needing a 10th song for the "Super Trouper" album, until the title track came along. I understood that POYWS was due to go on this album but was left off at the last minute in favour of ST, in which case they did already have a 10th track. I really wish they had made use of POYWS at the time as a B-side or even as an A-side for the Summer of 1981 - it could have been a big Summer holiday hit.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!?! Sombrero as an A-side? Can you imagine the media mockery of that title and those lyrics? The vocal performances are pretty special, but I've always found the song mortifying. I agree that it should have been released as a B-side at the time. It might have enhanced the chart performance of LAYLOM by offering something new to fans who, having already bought the album, were not willing to fork out for two tracks they already owned. TBH, I think it's good strategy for any group to adopt - especially for singles released after the parent album. IMO, B&B could do worse than complete the two unfinished recordings for use as B-sides to more singles from Voyage in the months ahead.

Ha ha, I have soft spot for Sombrero, I really like it, maybe guilty pleasure, maybe it coz was previously unheard track. In fact, Cassandra (which I previously loved) sounds bit plodding now, though the storytelling is so touching.

Naively, I used to think of the old stuff, archived and gathering dust, that if it's not deemed good enough for public consumption, why not delete it and be done with it? Then I realised that these undeleted recordings probably function like an artist's notebook - a private tracking and momento of past efforts. It seems obvious to me now.
I assume these two unfinished songs will be regarded the same way. Puzzling, though, that they should be mentioned, knowing all the conjecture it will cause.

With regard to this being the absolute end of Abba's as an ongoing recording outfit... if these were mainly songs from 10 to 40 years ago, I could understand the sentiment i.e. they just don't have the creativity anymore. But most of them it seems have been written and recorded in the last couple of years. If the album is a critical success (which remains to be seen, but we'll know in 10 days' time!) and all 4 members have enjoyed the renewed band activity, I expect there's still a fair chance of more stuff. But it is a big 'if' and Ben was probably playing it safe by saying this is the end.
