Don't quite understand the fuss people make about deluxe albums. No-one is forcing you to buy it! Also, had music kept up with the price of inflation since 1990, singles would now be around £10 and albums something like £30. The fact that you can still get albums for £10 is pretty amazing. It's not possible to have b-sides on singles anymore so adding a few extra songs to an album (which might once have been single b-sides) some time after the album's initial release seems fair enough to me.

I’m sorry to see Abba’s album is down to no. 3 in the mid week sales but such is life. The main point is it achieved no. 1 and that’s good enough. It could still return to the top sometime in the future if there is promotion or a significant development to raise awareness in the public’s eyes.I have no idea who Little Mix is but I’m sure their shelf life will be no more than a few years and will soon be forgotten. Abba’s legacy will live on for decades and probably centuries. So much talentless music out there. Charts are not like they used to be long ago but I’m over the moon the album reached no. 1 and also no. 1 in Australia and NZ. Their performance in North America is finally phenomenal after all these years.
I only bought the album on CD to listen through my laptop but it is still stuck inside the laptop and I never heard it via that way. I listen to it on Spotify now. I have no interest in buying any other form of it, coloured vinyl or whatever. In the height of my collection frenzy back in the 70’s, I had a huge collection of Abba paraphernalia including the rarest picture cover singles from all over the world, magazines etc. Then one day I realised something wasn’t quite right. I was living in a make believe world of Abba to the exclusion of the real world. I decided to sell everything except the LPs. It was the best decision I made. Now, in later life, I find less is more and all I need is their music in my head. Abba helped me enormously when growing up and when life was sometimes difficult. They were a crutch to stand on. Thankfully, I moved on and matured.
I don’t know Eddie but I wish him all the best in the world. Depression can be a terrible thing. I hope he comes back. Please don’t take things personally. No one means to hurt anyone. We are all here because we love Abba. That is a bond that unites us.

ABBA are only 3,000 copies behind Taylor Swift at No.1 so there's a good chance that ABBA will remain No.1 by Friday.

It’s on the Kylie forum that although ABBA are down to 3, it’s because Taylor Swift LP is front loaded with preorders. #1 Red — 24,915 #2 Between Us, @littlemix — 24,906 #3 Voyage — 21,853 #4 = — 14,606 #5 The Tears of Hercules — 12,472
Someone seems to think ABBA will claw back as week progresses. Colin may enlighten us more.

I don't think you compare Voyage to Gold. Yes, Gold initially was #1 for 1 week. But is a a Greatest Hits album that appealed to the casual fan. Voyage is more for the committed fan. Yes, it's sales will pick up at Christmas. It may indeed get to #1 again - around that time or around the time of Abbatars. Equally, it may not. It's shelf-life is more limited.
I agree with you about coloured vinyl. Totally useless. It's ornament not music
Who knows but maybe down the line a Abbatars DVD with Voyage. Now I would buy that. At the time of Mamma Mia the stage musical there was no question of a film or dvd - until the show had been running for a while. Maybe the same for the Abbatars concert.

Not great 1st week (well 3 days) for Swift or Little Mix.

Was in the local Asda store. Only Voyage on sale . The promotional stand only had 14 left out of 96. Hope supermarket sales count. There is time to catch up as people may impulse buy when doing their shop. If Swifts album has relied on pre orders it will drop quite quickly after 1st week. She was not brave enough to take Abba , Ed or Adele on . She knows her place. Lol.

Exactly! Her album had been scheduled for 19 Nov - same time as Adele. But was brought forward to avoid both Ed Sheeran and ABBA.
It is her only chance to get a #1. And it's not over yet.

[...] Sales not very impressive for her first week. I dunno. Given that it's a rerecording of an old album that already sold very well, I think it's a pretty good outcome. Maybe I'm missing something? Have her other reboots done well? I both Taylor Swift and Little Mix will do really well on streaming. I see that Little Mix have issued their album in multiple physical formats too - clearly, it's the go-to strategy for record companies chasing chart positions. I wonder if the whole Jesy Nelson debacle will have affected their sales?

Colin may enlighten us more. After the first couple of days, it's airplay that fuels album sales. As far as I can tell, neither Little Mix nor Swift have songs in the airplay top 40. Just a notion is sliding down the airplay chart but still in top 25, so this should help sustain album sales whilst the other two struggle. My guess a few days ago of 30,000 week 2 sales for Voyage is looking pretty good!

PS there's actually a chance that Ed Sheeran could overtake them all. Why? He has three singles in the airplay top 10 - that will push his album sales onwards whilst the others fade away...

Great, intelligent review this chap gives after unwrapping the album. He doesn't fawn over every track blindly, his choice of words seems considered. He pretty much sums up how I feel about Voyage. And of course the songs themselves are still growing on me. After all, I was never a massive fan of Lovers (Live A Little Longer) until fairly recently and now it's one of my firm favourites! Something just 'clicked'. We're allowed to change our minds, we're allowed to not be so keen on certain songs (and express it) and we're allowed to rave about others.

ABBA's album won't fade away. It will probably be in the top ten for quite a while. It will do well between now and Christmas due to gift buying, but Adele will be on top for most of the rest of this year. Ed has only sold 14,000 copies this week. An Ed Sheeran album isn't a "must have" due to the regularity of their releases. Adele and ABBA however are much rarer.

I like that video, joseph . His take on the songs is clearly that of a fan but the big thing about this video is the visuals. It's 100% clear to me now that the design was built around the black vinyl. The cover image and the labels are the perfect foil for the sleek elegance of the black vinyl. The black makes the labels pop; the labels make the black look inviting and desirable. And to think I spent my hard-earned moolah on translucent orange vinyl (second only to black in terms of sound quality and second only to black in terms of visual sympathy with the design) and yellow vinyl in the "Tron" cover. The yellow is too vibrant and only Benny's suit/frame chimes with the colour scheme of the logo. The other three clash. The album has grown on me and around me. I'm almost ready to slip it into my album rankings. Almost. The album and I are still in the can't-keep-our-hands-off-each-other stage of a new romance. As ever, one has to hope the romance lasts.

But yes, Voyage will sell well generally over Christmas.

And here’s the cover art. Only on CD according to the official store. It had to be a single over anything else, no matter what some of us think about it. It’s a good choice. It will be the final single from the album, as the campaign was due to end in early December.

Well, I guess it was going to be inevitable.. Its not my favourite but it is a grower.... It has a chance if released in all formats especially vinyl and CD.. Streaming may be difficult as a rule only uptempo tracks do well. buy hey look what happened to IHAD albeit 40 plus years ago....
It looks good so lets cross fingers as it wont be long before the Christmas season kicks in......

...it was first done with the Christmas market in mind, encouraging people to buy the deluxe edition CDs as gifts. And now this gift is going to be 'Little Things'. Strange decision imho, though I'm nothing like a PR guru. Or do they think people will be buying deluxe + LT combo? I wish I were that rich

To replace the ABBA Song that usually gets added to them - 'Happy New Year'. I think LT's chances to replace HNY in those lists are close to zero, but who knows.

Its going to be tough for LT as looking at that Chart Colin mentioned, its practically all up tempo tracks , so being the odd one out as such may work in its favour....I don't expect a high new entry, ( I think will actually chart though ), but it actually may climb as we closer to Christmas......

A terrible choice of single.
Forget Christmas theme, they should have chosen a good track.

A terrible choice of single. Forget Christmas theme, they should have chosen a good track. My sentiments entirely. IMHO it's a truly dreadful decision. This song is cringeworthy. And I say that as a life-long fan. 'When You Danced With Me' would have been an infinitely more sensible choice. That one's already charted without any PR push. ABBA should listen to the public mood. I seriously am starting to question the band's decision making process. After so many years of gaining some serious street cred.....
