I guess the final big things still left for we fans to discuss, after this new album, will be the actual Abbatar shows and maybe a big tv documentary. And then that will be it for ABBA's career.
Though there may be more compilation albums, feature films and theatre productions based on ABBA or their music.
Can anyone else come up with anything else we might have to discuss, concerning ABBA, over the next 10 years or more?

I truly hope this is not the end of their careers. They can't leave us with "Little Things" as their last ever single. I am not hoping for another album, but perhaps a track or two for the 50th anniversary of "Waterloo" in 2024. I'm sure Benny with continue with BAO but I don't see Agnetha and Frida continuing their solo careers, although you never know. Certainly Frida tends to do song collaborations, here and there. There will undoubtedly be more re-releases. I'm sure there will be vinyl re-issues for the "The Visitors", "Ring Ring" and "Waterloo" albums. And I fear that the record company will release another boxset of all their studio albums to include "Voyage".

I also don't think this is the end. The 50th anniversary celebrations will start next year, I think, and will culminate with the 50th anniversary of Waterloo in 2024, as the Eurovision victory has always been seen as the start of ABBA. They have never marked the anniversary of the real beginning of ABBA in 1972 so far, but I somehow feel that will change as Universal will want to capitalise on the surge of interest in ABBA caused by the new album and the concerts. I hope that if there is any new material, it will be released next year, in conjunction with the start of the ABBAtar concerts, as it doesn't make sense to wait two more years - anything can happen in the meantime. I'm a bit worried though that with the currect pandemic situation the premiere of the virtual concerts may be postponed. I agree with gamleman that we will probably see lots of anniversary releases.

Today was an ABBA Voyage day as I finally opened four of the editions I’d ordered!
The replacement green vinyl arrived in an undamaged outer sleeve. There was a slight rip on the seam of the inner sleeve, and a small scratch on the vinyl itself, so I opened up my original green vinyl (with the damaged outer sleeve) and they were both fine in that, so I swapped them round!
The Voyage artwork picture disc was impressive - looked better than I expected (this wasn’t in my original order plans). The ABBAtars picture disc is OK, but the design is quite dark anyway. On the exclusive sleeve it looks fine, but not so much on a picture disc. The credits, with a black background, is used on the back of both picture discs. I like the single, die-cut sleeves used on these, which are effectively larger versions of those used for the Super Trouper picture discs last year.
With no inner sleeve, lyrics, poster or picture card, clearly they knew that anyone getting either of these picture discs would also be getting one of the other editions!
The deluxe CD box is nice but can’t help thinking it’s over-priced!
That’s seven editions I now have, with just the orange vinyl from Amazon due to arrive on 9 December (although ordered from Amazon UK, it’s apparently coming from the US). Eight is definitely enough!

So it was very clever to turn the original offer down. Why bother with 100 concerts around the world, if they can have the same amount of money, while watching TV at home :-)

Eight is definitely enough! I have nine, after returning the picture discs. I was very underwhelmed by both but the ABBAtar one is the less spectacular of the two. I may regret my decision later but for now I'm glad I recovered from the shopping frenzy. So you passed the white and blue LPs? I don't want to tempt you, but the blue one is actually very nice :-)

So you passed the white and blue LPs? I don't want to tempt you, but the blue one is actually very nice :-) I got the blue! A couple of weeks ago I physically bought it from an independent shop. My full list is: yellow, green, blue, both picture discs, CD in alternative artwork, deluxe CD box. Orange being delivered on 9 December. In terms of vinyl, only the white and standard black won’t tempt me. It was never the intention to get eight. Started at two (green and deluxe CD box), quickly grew to four (both picture discs) then to six (yellow and alt. artwork CD) and finally to eight (blue and orange).

I thought it was supposed to be in London for at least five years? This article talks about 2024. Surely it’s not financially viable to be building a venue in London that’s only going to get two year’s use? Or do they mean it could run in both places simultaneously?

It sounds like the "Voyage" copies snowballed for you much like they did for me, Alan. I started off with five and ended up with ten (ignoring the digital copy provided by the Voyage store).
I imagine the London and Las Vegas ABBAtar shows will run in parallel - that is, if the London show hasn't run out of steam by the time the LV show is up and running (in which case I guess they would move it to somewhere else in Europe or even to Australia).

Hiya... Just in case... Some of us are having huge problems accessing the site.. saying no longer valid. My laptop says no but my tablet is ironically ok...
Two others think that the licence for the site may be expired.... I’ll send personal email to Alan, just in case something is happening, as we all loose each other, and there’s not many of us around....

In recent days, I have been getting a pop-up as if I am new to the site (before I log in), but otherwise access has been fine.
I don't want to divert people away from this forum but you may be interested to know (or already know) that there is a similar thread to this one on the Steve Hoffman Music Corner forum - it currently runs to 246 pages. I recently joined in the chat (you may be able to recognise me). You could, of course, participate in both, as the points being discussed are not always the same.

Two others think that the licence for the site may be expired.... I also think the domain has expired. It's happened before (two years ago??). You need to access the forum through abbachat.boards.net and not abbachat.com - the latter doesn't work. If anybody is in touch with the admin, we'd probably need her to prolong the subscription (or how it works). I'm not sure if we can use this mode for unlimited time.

I’ve contacted Roxanne (the admin) to report these issues. I haven’t experienced any of them myself, but as at least three of you have (plus others mentioned in foreverfan’s post) there’s clearly something wrong. I was wondering why the forum had suddenly gone quiet! I only go into the forum on my phone, and am permanently logged into it and always have it open in my Safari. Presumably anyone who accesses it similar to me won’t be affected. Hopefully Roxanne will get back to me quite quickly with a response.

I'm back in for the first time in days! None of my devices would let me enter the site. Anyway, coming back on topic, The Guardian has included Don't Shut Me Down in its top 20 songs of the year. www.theguardian.com/music/2021/nov/29/the-20-best-songs-of-2021Hope there's plenty more end-of-year critical acclaim to come (on top of this and the Grammy nomination).

For the first time in a couple of months, there are no longer any Abba songs on the Radio 2 playlist. So, be interesting to see what happens to the album now. Expect it will still do relatively well (for the novelty value of there being a new Abba album) but normally albums tend to plummet when radio support disappears. Guess Little Things may go on their playlist but not guaranteed. Radio 2 may feel they've supported them enough for now...

Surely it’s not financially viable to be building a venue in London that’s only going to get two year’s use? Or do they mean it could run in both places simultaneously? With the kind of money on offer, I wonder if it's plausible that they might be looking at replicating the show (no cheap feat, I suspect) so that Las Vegas and London run simultaneously? I bet that Little Things will be playlisted. Maybe not A-listed, but I reckon it'll get a decent share of spins when the station is finally playing Christmas music on a regular basis. It'll be interesting to see whether/how the video elevates it. The last few times I've tried accessing the site on my phone, I get a warning that the connection isn't secure and I am urged "back to safety"!

Roxanne didn’t mention any costs, onlyabba4meagain, and I didn’t actually ask! Roxanne renewed it very quickly after I contacted her. The reason it lapsed was because Roxanne hadn’t received anything notifying her that it was due to expire, and doesn’t use the forum herself. If there are costs involved, it hasn’t been mentioned and therefore presumably isn’t a problem!

Nice one, Alan. I'd wondered what had happened. I don't tend to log on every day but I did try a few days ago and thought the site might have been hacked but then it slowly dawned on me that something as you describe might have happened. I wonder why Roxanne doesn't pop in from time to time? Still, I guess she's busy and a lot of people do Facebook and Instagram instead now...even TikTok! Me, I have always favoured a forum scenario but that's probably because I have (mostly) fond memories of the old place.

Ooh, I'd be surprised if it caught up any of the others this week, onlyabba4meagain. It no longer has airplay support, and the albums above it should sell reasonably well in the days ahead. I see the Buble Christmas album is at #7. That could potentially catch it up...

Glad the forum is back in operation.
Probably, one last album is too much to hope for, but as a 50th Anniversary (2024) departing gift to fans, what a thrill that would be! Given the health and energy, it boils down to their creativity and ambition.
Back to now, If the ABBA of their 1974 to 1981 heyday is, overall, 5 stars for me, I'd say today's ABBA of Voyage is 4 stars. That, for a comeback after 40 years, I find incredible and wonderful.

Any predictions for Little Things chart positions? If there is a video, that would make quite a difference. Is a video 100% certain does anyone know?

Im kind of confused or concerned about the abbatar show. The Digital ABBA wont be singing along to the 70s-80s studio or live recordings ? They rerecorded all the vocals and that will be played along with a live band ? They themselves admitted that their voices are lower and they cant hit the high notes anymore which is understandable. Does that mean we will be listening to dancing queen or hole in your soul sung by the girls but an octave lower? Sounds interesting

Has not Björn said exactly the opposite. I think that when he was talking about Just A Notion and the way the old vocals are combined with new backing track, he said that's what they will be doing during the concerts. Or is it just my imagination?

The Digital ABBA wont be singing along to the 70s-80s studio or live recordings ? They rerecorded all the vocals and that will be played along with a live band? No. None of the old songs have been re-recorded. The ABBA Tars show will be a mix of old (1970s or 1980s) live vocal recordings or original studio recordings. The songs will, however, sound different due to the live band (which I think includes backing vocalists). As Michal says, Just A Notion (though not included in the show) is an example of what to expect, as it includes original vocals with a completely re-recorded instrumental. Not sure where this rumour of new vocals is coming from, as it seems to persist. It’s completely incorrect. However, I do have a few concerns about the use of old live vocal recordings myself. The sources are likely to be the 1977 Australian shows, the 1979 Wembley stuff, and the 1981 Dick Cavett recordings. I’m not a fan of the 1979 recordings as they often sound very different from their studio counterparts. The 1977 ones are better as they were heavily overdubbed for use in ABBA The Movie. Aside from The Way Old Friends Do on Super Trouper, the 1979 recordings were not subjected to any vocal overdubs. The 1981 Dick Cavett stuff I’m assuming was overdubbed in time for broadcast. The problem here is that modern audiences expect a live act to sound pretty much like their studio recordings (to the point that most of them aren’t fully live and are merely singing along to the record). Not sure how ABBA are going to get round this problem, as I’m afraid they really weren’t the best live act in terms of sound, but it was accepted in the 1970s and 1980s that you couldn’t reproduce the record on stage and so no one expected it.

Considering the shape of the charts these days, Voyage's sustained success is pretty amazing: this achievement is built on physical sales. Streaming is doing precious little. Would it be fair to say that ABBA are doing the opposite of the majority of other artists, bucking the main trend?
