Regarding the UK physical singles chart....
i see apart from Eagle etc, that in the lower reaches, that KMKY is back at 88 and Fernando at 90.
my question though is how accurate is this chart to produce a top 100, as if I'm lead to believe very few singles are actually sold, so surely in the lower reaches it must be a handful, and there fore you would think for instance KMKY, would sell 10s and surely sell the same amount as say position 87 or 89, so there would naturally be ' tied ' positions and it isn't happening anywhere in that chart.
so unless figures are a lot higher than thought , how accurate is this chart and the other Alternatvie ones ?

^ I think three singles were released from The Visitors album in the US. They were, in order, When All Is Said And Done, The Visitors and (somewhat later) One Of Us. The respective chart positions were 27, 63 and 107. In the UK, as in most other places, the singles were One Of Us and Head Over Heels. There were nearly 3 Singles from 'The Visitors' in the UK.
In early 1982, Epic Records were expecting 'Head Over Heel's to be ABBA's 19th UK Top 10 Hit in a row, (& 20th over-all). They got a terrible shock when it Peaked at No.25. They panicked and they considered turning the Single over & making 'The Visitors' the 'A' Side. In the end they decided to just let 'Head Over Heels' drop off the Charts. This was revealed, at the time, by the UK's top 'Chart Expert', Alan Jones, in both 'Record Mirror' and 'Music Week'. Alan is an ABBA Fan. Epic would have - no doubt - assumed that ABBA would soon have big Hits again, with New Singles, in 1982. That was in March 1982. In fact ABBA did not release another Single until near the end of October, and the UK just did not like it. Which is why it stalled at No.32. That was 'The Day Before You Came', of course. I hated in in 1982, but I love it now. Read more: abbachat.com/thread/242/abba-charts-regular-updates-etc?page=4#ixzz4yTvqAKvw

Graham - Yes, the UK Vinyl Singles Chart & the Physical Singles Charts have very low Sales. It does not mean that they are not accurate. The lower the Sales, the easier it is for The OCC Computers to 'Track' every UK Sale of those Singles. They can't - of course - Track 2nd Hand Sales, where people buy the Singles off Amazon etc. & then re-sell them on Ebay. Some UK Vinyl Singles sell very well - such as 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen & 'Hotel California' by The Eagles. Or Beatles and David Bowie Singles Re-Issues. But, ABBA Singles tend not to be big Sellers, on Vinyl. They can't be, anyhow, as Universal only release a very limited few 100, (or few 1,000) of each one.

Apparently this week Eminem joined ABBA and Led Zeppelin as the only acts to have eight consecutive number one albums in the UK.

Yes, Gary - Eminem now ties ABBA & Led Zeppelin, for the most UK No.1 Albums in a row. I failed to notice that when I sent the UK Charts Company some Chart Trivia earlier in the Week. I did predict that Ed Sheeran's 'Perfect' would remain at No.1 in the Singles Chart, that Eminem's 'Revival' would enter at No.1 in the Album Chart & that 'Last Christmas' would be the UK No.3 Hit in the Chart. (Andrew Ridgeley - formerly of Wham!' - had started a 'Campaign' to get it to No.1 for Christmas, as it never got higher than No.2 in 1984). All of my predictions came true - except that I did not spot that Eminem now had 8 UK No.1 Albums in a row.
1)... Of his 8 No.1 Albums, no less than 7 entered at No.1. His 1st No.1 Album - 'The Marshall Mathers LP' - entered at No.2 in June 2000 & took 4 Weeks to get to No.1. Of the 8 consecutive No.1 Albums by Led Zeppelin, 5 entered at No.1. The other 3 entered at No.4, No.10 & No.5, before they got to No.1. ABBA's 8 consecutive No.1's saw 4 of them enter at the top. The 4 that didn't were 'Greatest Hits' in April 1976. That entered at No.38 & took a Month to reach No.1. Although ABBA were huge, in the UK, in 1976, 'Arrival' could only enter at No.6 in November of that Year. It took 8 Weeks to reach No.1. 'Greatest Hits Vol. 2' entered at No.8 in November 1979. it rose to No.1 a Week later. November 1982 saw 'The Singles - The First 10 Years' enter at No.6 & that went to No.1 the next Week. (ABBA had a 5th Album entering at No.1, in October 1992, when 'Gold' went in at the top).
2)... Led Zeppelin's 8 UK No.1 Albums 'only' spent 14 Weeks on top, between them. 'Revival' gives Eminem a 25th Week at No.1, in the UK Album Chart. ABBA do better than both Acts No.1 Weeks combined. ABBA's 8 consecutive No.1 Albums gave them 49 No.1 Weeks & 'Gold' gave them 8 more - for 57 UK No.1 Album Weeks.

Using an 'Inverse Top 75 Points System', (75 points for No.1 down to 1 Point for No.75), 'ABBA Gold' has just become only the 2nd Artist Album to reach 17,000 Points, in the UK Album Chart. It has 17,012 Points. The UK Album Chart began on W/E 28th July 1956. The only Artist Album to beat 'ABBA Gold', is 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', (1970), by Simon & Garfunkel. That has 17,978 Points. However, it is not surprising that even 'ABBA Gold' could not outscore it. It was No.1 for 33 Weeks & spent 135 Weeks in the Top 10! (To 8 No.1 Weeks & 58 Top 10 Weeks for 'ABBA Gold').
Only 2 other Albums have outscored the Simon & Garfunkel & ABBA Albums. 1st is 'The Sound Of Music' (Soundtrack - 1965), which has 23,490 Points. 2nd is 'South Pacific' (Soundtrack - 1958), which has 22,400 Points. 'The Sound Of Music' was No.1 for 70 Weeks & it was in the Top 10 for 233 Weeks. 'South Pacific' was No.1 for an incredible 115 Weeks - including every Week of 1959...With 276 Weeks in the Top 10.

ABBA Gold' is up from No.60 to No.48 in the latest UK Album Chart - W/E 4th January 2018.
It is actually the final chart of 2017 in the UK. This is because all of the Sales in it are from 2017 - from Friday 22nd December to Thursday 28th December.
'ABBA Gold' sold over 4,000 copies to be at No.60 last Week & it has sold about 4,400 to rise to No.48 this Week.
'Gold' used to be the UK Album with the most Weeks in the Top 75. However, it has now been over-taken by 'Legend' by Bob Marley & The Wailers & 'Greatest Hits' (One) by Queen.
THE UK ALBUMS WITH THE MOST TOP 75 WEEKS
1)... Legend -- Bob Marley & The Wailers -- (1984) -- 561 Weeks 2)... Greatest Hits (One) -- Queen -- (1981) -- 541 Weeks 3)... ABBA Gold -- ABBA -- (1992) -- 539 Weeks
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
THE UK ALBUMS WITH THE MOST TOP 100 WEEKS
1)... ABBA Gold -- ABBA -- (1992) -- 817 Weeks 2)... Greatest Hits (One) -- Queen -- (1981) -- 805 Weeks 3)... Legend -- Bob Marley & The Wailers -- (1984) -- 804 Weeks

It may not sound brilliant, but just think about it...
Gold is the 77th best selling album in the UK in 2017, down from 72nd in 2016 but up from 79th in 2015. Pretty consistent sales. I believe anywhere between 1000 and 2000 copies on average every week.
For a 1992 album, that's pretty good...
2018... should be interesting with MM2....

'ABBA Gold' sold around 91,000 copies, in the UK, in 2017.
'Officially' its UK Sales are around 5,420,000. However, some estimate its UK Sales to be over 5,600,000.
Its Year End No.77 placing is the 16th time that it has been in the UK's Top 100 Best Selling Albums of The Year.
The UK Album Chart began on W/E 28th July 1956 & only 'ABBA Gold' has managed to be in the Year End Top 100 as many as 16 times.
Today, I Emailed this fact to the 6 Staff, that I know at the UK Charts Company.
'ABBA Gold' will have a 17th Year End UK Top 100 placing, at the end of 2018.

To be at No.57, in the latest UK Album Chart, 'ABBA Gold' sold about 1,800 copies. Which gives it about 7,300 UK Sales, so far in 2018 - W/E 11th January to W/E 25th January. The UK Charts Company regards the W/E 4th January 2018 Charts as belonging to last Year, as all of the Sales, in those Charts, are from 2017.

In the latest UK Album Chart - W/E 22nd March 2018 - 'ABBA Gold' has risen from No.46 to No.31.
It sold around 3,150 copies to make that leap.
It looks like it will have sold over 20,000 UK copies, (in 2018), even before 'Mamma Mia! 2' is released, on July 27th. However, most of the Songs in Film 2 are not on 'ABBA Gold', so I do hope that Universal reflect that in a different Compilation, rather than the 1992 CD getting all of the attention - as usual. ('Only' 8, of the 21 'Mamma Mia! 2' Songs named - so far - are from 'ABBA Gold'. Rising to 9 out of 21 songs, if 'I Have A Dream' is in it, & 10 out of 22 Songs, if 'Chiquitita' is in it. So less than 50% of the 'Mamma Mia! 2' Songs are from 'ABBA Gold').

1)... Simon & Garfunkel -- Bridge Over Troubled Water = 279 Weeks 2)... Meat Loaf -- Bat Out Of Hell = 249 Weeks 3)... ABBA -- ABBA Gold = 232 Weeks
NOTE -- 'Legend' by Bob Marley & The Wailers has 179 Top 40 Weeks & 'Greatest Hits' (One) by Queen has 167 Top 40 Weeks. The OCC - wrongly - regards 2 'Legend' Top 40 Positions as not belonging to the 1984 Album. Including its No.26 Position, this Week. The other Top 40 Position being No.31 on the W/E 11th May 2017

Gary - 'Legend's UK Sales are a controversial subject.
The Official Charts Company gave it 3,380,000 UK Sales, to July 2016. They said it was the UK's 16th Best Selling Album. Since then, it has sold over 200,000 UK copies, so The OCC would give it around 3,600,000 UK Sales to the present day - W/E 22nd March 2018. That makes it the UK's 14th Best Selling Album.
However, there are records of its Annual UK Sales, since 1984 & 'Chart Fans' have carefully added them up. When you do that, you find that 'Legend' has really sold over 800,000 more copies, than The OCC says. That it has really sold about 4,400,000 UK copies. That makes it the UK's 8th Best Selling Album. However, The OCC don't like to change their minds about record Sales, & they insist on using the Total that has 800,000 copies missing from it.

Thanks Colin. I’m partial to a bit of Bob Marley, particularly Could You Be Loved. Interesting to hear about yet more errors by the OCC.

It always amazes me why with all the evidence available, companies like OCC don't believe and change the facts, what have they got to prove otherwise...

Gary & Graham - I've found several errors on The OCC Site, but I no longer let them know. (Not right away, anyhow). This is because I'd send them proof that they'd made this or that mistake & they'd just ignore me. The mistakes were rarely corrected by them. In the end I felt that they were not interested in correcting mistakes.
They have an error in The Beatles 'Section', on their Site. They only give 'Get Back', (1969), 2 Weeks at No.1 in the UK. It was really No.1 for 6 Weeks. So they give The Beatles 65 UK No.1 Weeks, in the Singles Chart & 188 Singles Top 10 Weeks. It should be 69 Weeks at No.1, and 192 Top 10 Weeks. I've told them about their error, but they pay no attention to me. (Sadly, at least 1 Beatles Book has come out, that uses The OCC Site for its UK Chart statistics - and the Book says 65 No.1 Weeks, even though it should be 69).
When The BMRB did the UK Charts in the 1970's, they compiled the Top 100 UK Singles & Albums, of that Decade, at the end of 1979. The Top 100's only went up to W/E 8th December 1979. 'Greatest Hits Vol.2', by ABBA, was in the UK Top 2 at the time, but it lost its Sales for the final 3 Weeks of 1979, due to the 8th December cut off Date. It still ended up as the 67th Best Seller of the 1970's, but it would have been at least 37th, had it had its 15th, 22nd & 29th December Sales included. (ABBA had 5 Albums in that 1970's Top 100 - 'Greatest Hits' - 2nd, 'Arrival' - 7th, 'The Album' - 20th, 'Voulez-Vous' - 55th, & 'Greatest Hits Vol.2' - 67th). 'Greatest Hits Vol.2' was the UK's 8th Best Selling Album for 1979. But, due to it losing the final 3 Weeks Sales, it would have been higher. It would have been 3rd for 1979. With 'Greatest Hits', by Rod Stewart up from 11th for the Year, to about 5th. Both his 'Hits' Album & ABBA's were at No.1 & No.2, for several Weeks, between November 1979 & January 1980. Had those 2 Albums been given those missing 3 Weeks Sales, 'Voulez-Vous' would not have been 5th for 1979. It would have been 7th. The huge selling Pink Floyd Album - 'The Wall' - was unable to get higher than No.3, in the UK, due to the ABBA & Rod Stewart Compilations selling so massively in the Top 2. (One of the missing 3 Weeks Sales was for Christmas - the biggest selling Week of the Year).
By 1983 Gallup were compiling the UK Charts. In September 1987 it was the 20th Anniversary of B.B.C. Radio One starting. To 'celebrate', Gallup worked out the UK's Best Selling Albums, from September 1967 to September 1987. Somehow, they forgot to include 'Off The Wall', by Michael Jackson, in that Top 100. Even though that 1979 Album had sold well over a Million, & it should have been included. It had 'only' reached No.5, in the UK, but it Charted for Months & Months, to gain its big sales. It did not reach its UK Peak until Michael died, in July 2009. Then it re-entered the UK Top 75 & reached No.3. (ABBA had 5 Albums, in the 1967 to 1987 Top 100. 'Greatest Hits' was 4th, 'Arrival' was 17th, 'Greatest Hits Vol.2' was 39th, 'Super Trouper' was 41st & 'The Album' was 70th).
As The OCC ignore me so much, I find it odd that a lot of UK 'Chart Fans' think that I have a 'Special Bond' with them. This is because I know 6 of their Staff & I've known 3 more, who left. None of it does me any good. I still get ignored a lot. I can't just say, 'Hey Guys! How many has 'ABBA Gold' sold since 1992?' I always feel that I must do a great deal of Chart Work for them, to 'earn' the right to ask them such Questions. I do far, far more work for The OCC than they ever do for me. However, I'm very easy going & I find it very hard to get angry towards them. I just get very disillusioned.....
It took me ages, to convince them, that the 'More ABBA Gold' that reached No.63 in 2008, was exactly the same Album, as the one that reached No.14 in 1993 & No.13 in 1999. They finally listened to me. Just as it took me ages to get them to give '18 Hits' a UK Peak of No.15. They had it as a No.17 Album. It took them about 3 Years to correct that one!

Again, we " all " and was frustrating at the time, knew that the " cut off" for end of year was early, " even the chart companies" knew, so why do they still continue to deny those missing weeks, and sales, you,d think that there has to be confirmation somewhere, records kept, after all the year didn't stop ( i.e. 3rd December) to re start in January...
Colin you must have one big lump on your head from all that banging against the wall....and you can't be the only one to point this out.....

'ABBA Gold' has fallen from No.30 to No.40 in the latest UK Album Chart - W/E 12th April 2018.
It sold around 2,250 copies to be at No.40.
It has already sold around 31,500 UK copies this Year & that is even before the July 20th, (or 27th), release of 'Mamma Mia! 2' gives it a fresh burst of UK Sales.

To the current UK Album Chart - W/E 26th April - 'ABBA Gold' has sold 35,000 UK copies, in 2018.
It is - so far - the UK's 39th Best Selling Album of 2018.
This is before it gets a big 'boost' from 'Mamma Mia! 2' being released in July...

Remarkable really. ^^^ it's quite possible that it could end up being a top 20 album of the year, if MM2 is successful ( which it will be), even top 10?? Theres always the " other" compilation to consider as well if it happens, so potentially there could be 3 ABBA related , assuming a MM2 soundtrack will also be released in the best selling albums of the year chart...
we could / probably see a few years after of nothing, as the UK will be exhausted of ABBA... saying that ABBAtars follow in 2019 !!
who'd have thought.....

Graham - There are also UK Mid Week Charts on Tuesday's & Wednesday's.
As you said, the Monday Mid Week Chart had 'ABBA Gold' at No.19.
The Tuesday Mid Week Chart has it up from No.19 to No.16.
However, various signs show me that 'Gold's' Boost, this Week is now starting to decline. Therefore, I cannot see it reaching the Top 10 again, in Friday's Weekly Chart.
Really, Universal need to sort out another ABBA Compilation, to attract new buyers. 'Gold' has sold over 5,400,000 UK copies, & there really needs to be a 'fresh' ABBA Compilation, to fully cash in on the 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film, the Global ABBA TV Special, in December, & the 2 New ABBA Songs. (It would be good if the 2 New Songs were included on a 'fresh' ABBA Compilation. But, that should only be done after they have both been Singles first - otherwise the Compilation's Sales would prevent either Single being big Hits).
It would be a terrible shame if nothing is released to cash in on ABBA's 2018 attention. 'Gold' cannot be relied to do it, as it has already sold so many copies. It is very hard for it to be huge again.
Although 'Greatest Hits' by Queen, is the UK's Best Selling Album, & 'Gold' is 2nd, the Queen Album is 'only' about 174,000 Sales in front of 'Gold', in the UK. Queen Fans, (& the UK Charts Company), say that the Queen Album is on over 6,200,000 UK Sales, but that includes a massive 626,000 Sales from 2 other Queen Compilations. When those Sales are removed, it is far, far less than 800,000 Sales in front of 'ABBA Gold'.
Globally, 'ABBA Gold' is on 30 Million plus Sales. It is bigger than the 1981 Queen 'Hits' Album. That has sold between 25 Million & 26 Million Worldwide...
Some give 'ABBA Gold' 34 Million Global Sales.

I think this week may prove to be a blip, with all the news coverage etc, making a big difference, my guess Gold will end up around the 25 Mark by end of week. It's on it's longest consecutive chart action since 2008, so far by the end of this week it will have spent 44 consecutive weeks in the top 100 UK album charts, 32 of those in the official top 75.
i guess we will see the real " bounce" once MM2 is released. It's all good for Gold, but like so many of us, there needs to be something new, will that happen? There appears to be no rumours circulating apart from the obvious soundtrack, surely Universal aren't that stupid not to cash in, especially now...
With Chess, MM2, ABBAtars, 2 new tracks, what more can we ask for and for universal to promote, it's unlikely this period of time will come around again.

Graham - It looks like 'ABBA Gold' will manage to still be in the UK Top 20 in Friday's Weekly Chart.
It has held at No.16 in today's - Wednesday's - Mid Week Chart.
So, it has done this from Monday to Wednesday:
No.19, (up from No.51) - No.16 - No.16

'ABBA Gold' will certainly be in the UK Top 20, when Friday's Album Chart is revealed, at 5.45 pm, tomorrow.
It is up from No.16 to No.15 in the Thursday Mid Week Chart. So, it has been in the Top 20 from Monday to Thursday, this Week. It only needs to stay there on Friday & it has its 103rd Week in the UK Top 20...

So far, this Week, 'ABBA Gold' has done this in the Mid Week UK Charts:
Monday 14th May Mid Weeks -- No.21

If it is still in the Top 20 on Friday, it will be its 104th Week there -- 2 Years.
