Hi! I’m Lina (it’s actually my nickname ), I’m 18 years old and have been a fan of ABBA for a few years now. I grew up with some ABBA hits, such as “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme” and “Dancing Queen” because of my parents, but I never knew these songs were made by ABBA, up until a few years ago when I re-discovered ABBA through Mamma Mia. After watching the movie, I looked up all of the original songs and I have been a really big fan ever since. The first video I came across while re-discovering them was of them performing “Honey, Honey” in Germany, in 1974. Their music and ABBA as a whole has really meant a lot to me and has often been with me through some very special moments in my life since then! My favorite member is Agnetha (and Frida as well), although I love all members equally. I’ve also been editing ABBA pictures for some time now, mostly to improve quality or colour, and I hope to be sharing those pictures here sometime soon!

Hi @lina, welcome to the forum! Always good to welcome new members, and especially younger ones. Mamma Mia! picked up many fans and it’s interesting to hear your experiences. By all means post photos - I’m useless at enhancing old photos so will be exciting to see what you come up with!
The main topic of conversation at present is of course ABBA Voyage. We have a very big thread for that, so feel free to join in there too.

I will definitely look into all of the different topics and hopefully post some pictures every now and then!

Hi, I would like to re-introduce myself. My username was eddie previously but I opted for genius because I am Polish and my second name is Eugenuisz ( which is strictly my first name ) but I have become used to Edmund for many years. So that is why I chose Genius as my new username ( a sort of anagram of Eugenuisz ). I am not a genius at all. I am a shy and reserved person by nature and have suffered with bouts of depression over the years. Also, I am managing to control my anxiety issues which is not that easy to be honest. I am not very thick-skinned and extremely sensitive to criticism but I do understand that it is impossible to perceive every ABBA song is perfect. For that I apologise and we are allowed to express our ideas, views and opinions about our favourite band on ABBAchat. As Alan rightly mentioned that the point of a discussion forum is our own particular likes and dislikes which keeps the forum ongoing.
I have been a loyal ABBA fan for many many years since those heady days back in 1974 when ABBA won the ESC with " Waterloo " . In my opinion they are the best pop band in the world and I was blown away when I heard of their recent studio re-union ( an antidote to my depression and anxiety ). I love the new album " Voyage ".

Welcome back, Eddie! And please don't worry if another's view of an ABBA song doesn't match your own. Music means a lot to us but, in the end, as the saying goes, "It's only rock 'n roll!" I used to get very upset about what I regarded as ignorant, complacent, dismissive comments about my favourites. But not any more - and what a relief! Looking forward to reading your views again!

It's great to see you back, Eddie (@genius). You're part of the furniture here now. Rest assured that we understand your anxieties. You're right to take time away when it all gets a bit too much, but I hope that the next time you'll feel that maybe you can take that break without deleting your profile. Your wellbeing is what's important, though, so just do what feels right.

Hello all,
I will introduce myself . I am Sylvia from the Netherlands and I am 56 years old and I have been an ABBA fan since 1976. I started again a bit with only beautiful and good things to collect. I limit it a bit these days because otherwise it would become too much. a lot of information is in the beautiful books, it is also super fun to view the photos.

Thank you, warm welcome to everyone else here. So much to post after the last few months of excitment. I am still half way through with my review in my head for Voyage. I grew up on ABBA and they heavily influenced my music tastes (Steps, Selena, Britney Spears etc) over the years. Looking forward to participating more when i have recovered from this stupid heat wave and headaches! Kind Regards Dan

Hello. I’m someone who always enjoyed ABBA’s hits, but until this year, never really took a deep dive into their complete catalog. I recently purchased the CD Album Box Set, the two live discs and the Spanish-language album. My respect for them as artists has skyrocketed. So glad to have found this site. I’ve already learned so much about the group from simply browsing the members’ posts. Many thanks. ✌🏻, Cliff New Jersey USA

Hello cliff, Really interesting to read your post, kinda envy you having all that new music to explore and experience, though it was nice last November for us old ABBA fans. Hope you find this place informative and fun. Take care.

lamont,@eddie, Thanks for the welcome, Lamont & Eddie. Prior to “Voyage,” the only disc I owned was “Abba Gold.” Oh, and back in the ‘70’s, I played guitar and sang “Fernando” with a friend of mine at a high school teen arts festival. I always respected the songwriting, production and vocal skills of the group, but now I’m finding so much more to love than just the big hits. Two of my new favorites at the moment are “Why Did It Have To Be Me” and “Andante, Andante.” Listening to music has always been an active, rather than passive, activity for me. And now that I’m retired, it’s great to have more time to listen! ☮️

Cliff, Of course there are the big hits which will always be favourites of mine and I regularly listen to but I do like to hear quite a few album tracks, such as " When I Kissed The Teacher ", " If It Wasn't For The Nights ", " Kisses Of Fire ", " That's Me ", " Move On " " Andante Andante ", " Slipping Through My Fingers " and " My Love My Life ". There are so many others too. Not forgetting the brilliant " Voyage ".

@eddie ,
Well, yesterday I burned myself a car disc (I rarely take precious box set items with me in the car) of the songs you listed, as well as “Voyage” and two Spanish-language tracks “Andante, Andante” and “Se Me Está Escapando.” What great selections, Eddie!
Listening to “When I Kissed The Teacher” & “If It Wasn’t For The Nights,” it occurred to me that had Benny & Björn been around about a decade earlier, they’d have fit in perfectly with the great Brill Building songwriters I was raised on. B & B’s ability to write catchy, hook-filled songs is right up there with Goffin-King, Sedaka-Greenfield, Mann-Weil, Barry-Greenwich, etc.
I loved how Agnetha begins “Kisses Of Fire” the way many standards of the 1930’s and 40’s began…a sultry, stand-alone intro./verse before kicking the song into high gear! “That’s Me”…another great, hook-filled pop song showcasing the group’s incredible vocal arrangement skills. The background vocals are never JUST background vocals. They are complex counter-melodies which, in many cases, could probably stand as individual songs. “Move On”….wow…beautiful song, thoughtful lyrics. Björn does such a good American accent in the spoken word intro, that I thought “oh, cool. Abba got Glen Campbell to record with them.” Had to check the credits when I got home to see it was actually Björn!
Frida’s perfect rendition of “Andante, Andante” gets me choked up every time, since I first heard the song last month at my girlfriend’s suggestion. I’ve always loved waltzes…whether by Richard Strauss, Richard Rodgers or Ulvaeus & Andersson. There’s just something so romantic about a waltz, and the group executes it flawlessly.
Lyrically, “Slipping Through My Fingers” reminds me of Harry Chapin’s “Tangled Up Puppet” or “Cat’s In The Cradle.” A parent lamenting the speedy passage of time and seeing their child growing up too quickly. Coupled with a majestic, sweeping melody line, this one gave me goosebumps. And “My Love, My Life”…what a heart-tugging song of farewell. Something so affecting and basic at the same time…the notion that “we can’t love each other anymore, but I’ll always love you…”
And as for the “Voyage” album….I’m sure there have been many others who have already detailed the brilliance of its ten remarkable songs better than I could. Yesterday was probably the 8th time I listened to it from beginning to end, and it just gets better each time!
Thanks again, Eddie. Your picks made for a very satisfying “CD spin!” ✌🏻

I'm Jon ,41 yrs old from the UK and have been a fan of Abba's music since early 1990's, my parents had a couple of their albums plus I have family in Sweden so guess it was meant to be! It's very hard to pick a favourite Abba song with everything they have recorded! Have been to see the Mamma Mia stage show and the 2 MM film's and then last month saw the Voyage concert and going again in October, never thought I would get to see an Abba show it was an amazing experience. Looking forward to being part of the Abba Forum.

Hello everyone, my name is George, i live in London
I’ve been an abba fan since Nov 1979
I have most of the original UK singles and albums
I’d like to confess, I’ve been profoundly in love with Agnetha since I was 13¾ (Nov 1979)
I like to sing at karaokes and recently i decided to try some abba songs' they all need to have the key changed of course
I have tried so far ‘the winner takes it all’ not great ‘the name of the game’ did ok
And ’the day before you came’ probably my best effort so far (i believe this video proves Agnetha is the most beautiful woman in the world)
