I think the future may hold !!!!!! all good speculation...... A new album... about 8 tracks...... stand alone ... Then in time.. a glorified new edition of GOLD.... containing the new hits ..... It wouldnt be me if i didnt say..... Time will tell..... lol I keep imagining 8 tracks too..no idea why though!

I’m not sure I’d want any new tracks adding to Gold at any point. We’ve had More Gold added to Gold, we’ve had the videos added to Gold (twice!) and finally we’ve had b-sides (most of which are also album tracks) added to Gold. All of these have been short-lived gimmicks.
As with Mamma Mia!, Gold has a life of its own now. It’s become a phenomenon in itself and any tampering with it has always resulted in it reverting to its original form (well, apart from artwork and edits replaced by full versions).
Also, as the new tracks were recorded 35 years or more after ABBA’s last recordings, I’m not sure they should be placed alongside them. A new compilation at some point is an idea but all previous attempts at usurping Gold (Definitive/Essential, Number Ones, not to mention numerous budget comps, such as 18 Hits) have all met with comparatively little success.
I still see a new ABBA album at this point as being a long-awaited encore. ABBA’s era was 1972 to 1982 and songs recorded so much later will sit uneasily next to them. Plus we’ve all got the old songs many, many times over.
I’m not taking Janne Shaffer’s comments about an album too seriously. He possibly only knows as much as us - five tracks - and like the rest of us is scratching his head wondering what you can actually do with five songs. However, I still remain very positive that a full album will materialise.

I absolutely agree that there should be no more tampering with Gold. As for another compilation, perhaps to celebrate the 50 years, I see no problem with including the new songs on that, provided that they don't intermingle the new tracks with the old tracks and put them on a separate disc (or side of an LP), so that they are distinct. I don't think they will care that we've already bought the old songs many times over. They will be catering to the mass market, to which the new songs in a 50-year celebration package may appeal.

There are rumours, (we all know about them ).. on other chart sites, that the current UK album chart may be changed, and all OLD albums, i.e ABBA , Queen , etc over a certain length of time on those charts , will be removed to another chart, i.e I guess Catalogue ...Like in the USA...
So that would effectively stop GOLDs record on the official charts, with only its sales totals increasing, Gold sells on average 2-3000 a week currently , if on a Catalogue chart that would probably be a top 5 placing, so futher down that chart sales would be minimal, 100s, these other charts have little if no relevance.
Its to give "new " acts a chance. It remains to be seen if its purely rumours or something more definite...As if true Universal will not want to promote a Album that is not on the main chart....

I believe that the Top 100 Albums and Singles charts should be exactly that - the Top 100 best-selling albums or singles of the week. Any move away from that (although I know compilations are currently separated out) would be verging on corruption. The limit of a maximum of 3 singles per artist in the chart at any one time is also a distortion of the truth. So what if Ed Sheeran occupies 9 of the Top 10 positions - if that reflects the way people are buying/streaming in that particular week, so be it.

Remember also that the UK Singles Chart currently has 'ACR' applied to it - meaning that if a song has been in the chart for a certain number of weeks, and its sales/streams are not increasing, its descent in the chart is artificially accelerated. I am not exactly clear on the criteria or how they apply it, however Chart Specialists will probably know.

I must admit I used be a huge chart follower in 70s, 80s, and 90s, then it went all wrong ( plus i wasn't so keen on the music !! lol ).
I dont know much about the charts of today especially the singles, but i do think its manipulated to suit ! ACR , whats that ! surely it should still be all on sales, but hey I try to move with the times...... The Album chart I think and only think is a little bit easier, but again I know streaming etc comes into it, but its mostly sales ?
I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about really and living in the past, when it comes to the charts, I really enjoyed watching climbers and fallers, it was unusual for a single to last 20 weeks now its a year later and still there..
Have i turned into a grumpy old man !!
If someone can clearly explain the charts of today Id be grateful.....In simple words ..lol

I checked the Instagram "countdown" today and I found it quite amusing how certain people comment like: Only three days left until the new songs.. as if it was a given fact. It would be so funny if Disillusion was featured again at the end and nothing more

I guess the news has to come from somewhere first, but of all the newspapers!! One of the UKs most unreliable comics... my old adage.. time will tell, but it seems to be building up to something fairly soon, or have the media scrolled through social media, and picked up that the “countdown” is nearly over and put 2&2 together...
For me, I think it would have to be something officially released from the group/fan club, or on UK radio, Ken Bruce on radio 2 is a huge fan, and usually premiers and has record of the week...( he’s interviewed Agnetha, a few years ago). I would imagine that the main UK tv channels would also announce the news, after all it will be massive, and something that’s fun in these gloomy times..
But quite happy to eat humble pie if The Sun is correct on all of its stories...🙄

Ironically UK TV, Good Morning Britain, has a news tag line saying what the Sun has said...an abridged version.. so have they just picked it up or are we imminent... Exciting times... potentially...

There's an ABBA Voyage website - the graphics would suggest some kind of link with ABBAsite: abbavoyage.com/The ABBA TikTok site is teasing "Voyage" with a 2 September date: https://www.tiktok.com/@abbavoyage/video/7000633129727741190 I've just heard it mentioned on the entertainment section of the radio news. The presenters seemed happily surprised and shocked, as if they hadn't heard about the new music already. Odd. But it might suggest that the general public have not been on tenterhooks like the rest of us!

But of course no mention yet as yo how many tracks, an album etc, 2nd September is a curious date, unless they announce all to reveal the single the following day?

It looks like it is real then. I don't see any indication of the number of songs to be released next week. I can't find any evidence of new ABBA releases available for pre-order on the Amazon UK or HMV site, so one might assume it will be digital-download release only (or even just streaming). I also can't find the "ABBA Voyage" show on the five major TV channels in the UK for the evenings of 2 or 3 September - I was hoping for a big unveiling on the BBC, as initially promised. I have signed up to the ABBA Voyage website - I wonder whether it will be a pay-to-view event. Hopefully more details will emerge today and tomorrow. Perhaps that press conference will now happen.

You could be right, justabba . I have seen some acts avoid the traditional release day of Friday. I think it may be that they're sending a signal that the charts are less important to them. Or it could be that they want to make a bigger splash by not getting "lost" in the sea of new releases on the same day. Anyway, a date on an official site means something. Just a week away! The TV special is an interesting one, gamleman. I wonder whether anything had already been filmed for the original date, and can it simply be dusted off and broadcast? Personally, I think it would make some sense to stagger things - a single now, an album/EP in October, a TV special close to Christmas to sustain momentum for the album campaign and lay further groundwork for the show. There's bound to be a chain of events to lead up to the opening of the show. The documentary section of the ABBAtars show is something I wasn't expecting. I thought it would be a full-tilt, nostalgia-driven concert. They're confounding our (my?) expectations!

I thought "ABBA Voyage" was the name of a show/documentary to be shown on 2 September to launch the new song(s) and ABBAtars show, and not actually the name of the ABBAtars show, or perhaps they're using the same title for both. So, it is in place of the BBC/NBC special that we were once promised. P.S. I get the impression it is "ABBA Voyage" documentary on Thursday 2 September and song release on Friday 3 September.

BBC has finally caught up.. so it must be true ..lol
Part of what they say...
"Those tracks, I Still Have Faith In You and Don't Shut Me Down, have been repeatedly delayed - and the band are now planning to release five tracks to thank fans for their patience."
So are there only 5 tracks ... we will see....
^^^ Its good to see new younger fans joining in and their thoughts.. there might be a few more coming !!! mind you whats younger these days 40 ..lol

I am absolutely delighted as I never got to experience ABBA during their heyday from 1970-1983 I was born in 1990 so at the age of 31 to see and hear that ABBA are releasing new songs for the first time in 38 years is absolutely incredible, I always had a feeling they would record together again.
