I think to increase familiarity with the soundtrack the following would have to be included.Summernight City, One of Us and Fernando, Waterloo and TYFTM(last three performed by the Dynamos as difficult to work into a dialogue)and possibly UnderAttack and Head over Heals. These tracks along with TNOTG, KMKY, DQ and MM would increase the singles and better known songs to 11. If that were so, along with the three album tracks we already know about (WIKTT, WDIHTBM, I Wonder)that would take the list to 14. Not leaving a lot of space for other tracks. If that were so I d like to see Kisses of fire, As good as new, Andante Andante, Ring Ring and If it wasn't for the Nights make up the remainder of the soundtrack. Fun speculating. Hoping to be surprised.

I find the Plots of both 'Mamma Mia!' Films to be very unimaginative. As if they were written by a Woman who reads nothing else except Mills & Boon Romance Novels. As it is, the 1st Film borrowed much from the 1968 Film, 'Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell'. Then they add in USA Teenager slang such as, 'OMG!' - 'Oh My God!'. None of it has ever excited me, which is why I've been unable to force myself to watch the 1st Film. I just watch the ABBA Song clips from it, on YouTube.
I'd far rather that ABBA Songs had been used in a huge, expensive Walt Disney Fantasy Cartoon - with the ABBA originals being used, instead of them being murdered, by Actors who, (mostly), cannot even sing - as in both 'Mamma Mia!' Films.
We will see if 'Fernando' will be used in Film 2, seeing as it is ABBA's 2nd biggest Single Globally, (after 'Dancing Queen'). It is also ABBA's biggest ever Hit in many Countries - Germany, Switzerland, Australia, & New Zealand, etc. They may feel that it cannot be 'fitted', into a Film about a 'Modern Real Life' situation. However, it is easy. They could use it in a 'Dream Sequence', where one of the Movie's Cast is having a Dream, in which a 'Fantasy' is shown, of 'Fernando' being sung. However, such a stretch of imagination may be too hard, for people, who seem only to read Mills & Boon Romances.
They are very lucky, that the ABBA Songs, have made a success of such a woefully basic & dull story! It is the Songs that hold it all together. Without them, it is a boring pile of junk!
I see the Films purely as a very successful way to promote ABBA. On their own, the Films are very ordinary. It infuriates me when I see people, on YouTube, saying that the 'Mamma Mia!' Actors perform the Songs better than ABBA did! It is obviously not true, when many of the Cast cannot even sing!!!

I agree with Onlyabba4me, it's a fantastic way to keep ABBA in the public view and promotion, it can only do good in that respect.
As for the film, I slightly disagree, yes its banal, rubbish, bubblegum, but surely it never took its self to serious in the first place, it's a fun film, with good actors, if not the role, and has you smiling, surely those millions that watch it on DVD must think it's good, and hey we can't have enough smiles...
your never going to please everyone, but that film/ show has done more for ABBA, than any one else over the past 10 years.
MM2 will do the same, as a success we will see..but more ABBA on the airwaves is no bad thing...

Just read that Cher will appear and will be singing and dancing. That should be fun. No details on which songs. That will raise the profile even more. I was unsure about an Abba musical 20 years ago and was won over after a friend surprised me with a trip to London and a ticket to see Mamma Mia . In a world full of depressing news , it's great escapism. I just hope the 2nd film can bring as much of a feel good factor as the first. And of course, let's hope it launches Abba further up the charts again.

I'm no great fan of the musical, but its pluses outweigh its minuses. Without it, ABBA would be nowhere near as prominent in the public's perception. And I find myself fascinated by the song list for the second film, particularly if it includes more obscure songs.
Another thought occurs to me: why is Mamma Mia 2 starting off as a film rather than in the theatre?

It is good that Cher will be in 'Mamma Mia! 2'. Apparently, she will sing 2 ABBA Songs. At last, an Actress, in it, who can actually sing! It is not the first time that she has had an association with ABBA. She was in their 'The Last Video', in 2004: Here is a 'Daily Mail' Article, about Cher being in 'Mamma Mia! 2': LINK: goo.gl/mComf6Here she goes again: Cher prepares to return to the big screen with appearance in Mamma Mia 2
The 71-year-old is currently rehearsing for the Mamma Mia sequel in London
Oscar-winning actress has not been in films for years, opting for singing instead
Her character name and which Abba songs she'll be singing are still under wraps
By Baz Bamigboye for the Daily Mail
Monday 16th October 2017
Hollywood star Cher is preparing to be a 'dancing Queen' in the sequel to Abba movie musical Mamma Mia! The Oscar-winning actress is in London rehearsing choreography sequences for the film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. The Mail can reveal she will appear in two song and dance sequences in the follow up to the 2008 Mamma Mia! Movie, which starred Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper and Christine Baranski, all of whom are in the new film. Lily James is also in the film as the younger version of Donna, Streep's character. The cast has been shooting on locations in Croatia but they will join Cher on the dance floor set up at Shepperton Studios later this week. Cher's role and names of the Abba numbers she'll sing are being kept under wraps. 'Cher's our secret weapon. It'll spoil the fun if we give anything away,' an executive connected to the film explained last night. Cher, 71, has not been in front of film cameras for several years, although she has been busy touring and collaborating on developing a Broadway musical based on her life and career. Her Oscar was for best actress in Moonstruck in 1988. The stage show will feature her signature chart-toppers such as I Got You Babe, Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves and The Shoop Shoop Song. Cher revealed on her Twitter feed that she has been rehearsing dance numbers but didn't disclose the name of the project. However, she happily admitted to being in the UK where, she noted, 'It's always felt like home.' Mamma Mia! started out on stage in London eighteen years ago where it remains a West End favourite. Judy Craymer the producer who helped create the show also backed the 2008 film which took one billion dollars at the box office worldwide.

Potentially, good news, like said, she CAN sing... its all getting very interesting, the speculation on what she sings will be rife, and whatever she sings will probably be released as a single, so could be a big hit, that said here in the UK , the 'older' star generation are finding it hard to have a single hit these days. can only be good for the film , ABBA and the Bank...... she can act as well, not that she will need to do that in this film...lol..

Great news that Cher will be part of Mamma Mia 2. I have a theory..... She will sing Fernando and Andy Garcia will be Fernando in the story. Since Fernando is hard to get into any story these two new characters could be a way to fit it in. It´s at least a possible way to do it (.... not that there aren´t millions of other possibilities). We´ll see....

Now I have a wish regarding Cher´s appearance! Couldn´t she give som friendly advice on how love works to someone and belt out "Bang A Bommerang". I think that could be absolutely fantastic!

Cher has done several Tweets that suggest that 1 of her 'Mamma Mia! 2' Songs is 'Fernando'.
1)... 'Fernando'
2)... 'The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry'
3)... 'They were shining there for you and Me for liberty'
4)... 'If I had to do the same again I would my friend !?' Always cry when I'm singing it.
Some people know very little about ABBA. I found this error, in a Cher Article, on a USA Gay On-Line Site, called 'Out'. Justin Moran wrote the Article:
"A mysterious tweet, which says "Fernando" in all caps, could offer fans insight about what to expect —perhaps Cher will perform ABBA's 1980 single off Gracias Por La Música?"
I added this comment to the Site:
'Fernando' was on ABBA's 'Gracias Por La Musica' in 1980. But that was a Spanish Language ABBA Album. The Global Hit version - in English - was a 1976 Single. If Cher sings 'Fernando' in the 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film, she will obviously be singing the 1976 English Language original.
NOTE - I know that Frida originally sang 'Fernando', (in Swedish), on her 1975 'Frida Ensam' Album. However, I was just taking about ABBA's version's of the Song.

I also read Cher´s tweets regarding Fernando, but after my own speculation. Cher has re-recorded 'Fernando', as she was not fully happy with the first 'take'. However, she is delighted with the 2nd 'take'. Here is her Tweet about it, on 15th October: "Worked LATE LAST NIGHT.

MY VERSION IS Me.”GREAT SONG“

Ok, it looks as if it's Fernando.
I do love the song, my first real love of ABBA, however I feel it's one that hasn't aged as good as many of the others, so hoping Cher will put a new slant on it, at the moment can't see how drums, liberty, old and grey , etc fits well with the story, a song of war, freedom... Vietnam ?? that would possibly fit war wise....
its fun speculating

According to the Dubrovnik Times, Andy Garcia will be playing the role of "Fernando Cienfuegos". If this is true, and without delving too deep into politics, I wonder what refugee Garcia thinks of playing a character who's the namesake of one of the main leaders of the Cuban revolution.

Thanks Erik - I'm glad that 'I've Been Waiting For You' is in the 2nd Film. Ever since I first heard it, on the 'B' Side of 'So Long', (1974), I've loved that Song. I like the 'Fade In' Intro & Agnetha's lovely lead vocals. It is good, that so many lesser known ABBA Songs, are going to be heard, by a much wider audience, in 'Mamma Mia 2'.

Funny how one song can make a difference, I've Been Waiting For You, is that song, probably very dated by today's standards, but by far one of the best, a beautiful melodic, song, fell in love with it all those years ago and still a favourite, and so easily fitting into the film.
By the way, does anyone know anything about the Japanese characters? Yumiko and Tateyama..that are in the film ?

Agnethas vocals in "I´ve been waiting for you" sends shivers up my spine evvery time and it´s a great loveballad absolutely. The article said that Julie Walters sings it together with Christine Baranski and Amanda Seyfried. That sounds a little odd though... haha!
Where did you (foreverfan) get this info on Yumiko and Tateyama? I haven´t got a clue who they are and I haven´t heard about it.

The 1st 'Mamma Mia!' Film was not particularly big in Japan. Surprisingly, it was not in the Top 240 Japanese Films of 2008. This makes me think that it was not released there until 2009.
It was the 23rd biggest Japanese Film of 2009. It was the 8th biggest 'Western' Film in Japan, that Year.
It took just under $27,600,000 at the Japanese Box Office.
If there are 2 Japanese characters in Film 2, then maybe it is an attempt to make it a bigger Japanese Hit than was managed by Film 1?

From what we know so far, Mamma Mia 2 seems to involve a lot of looking back to an earlier time. For that reason, I'm hopeful that THE DAY BEFORE YOU CAME will be included somewhere.

A few Weeks ago I heard that 'One of Us' was also going to feature in 'Mamma Mia! 2'.
I wanted to 'collect' a couple more rumoured Songs, before I added 'One Of Us' here.
So, today I have 3 'fresh' ABBA Songs, that are said to be included in the Film:,
A)... One Of Us B)... As Good As New C)... If It Wasn't For The Nights
I'm pretty sure that 'As Good As New' would have been a No.1 UK, (& German), Single, in 1979, but ABBA left it on 'Voulez-Vous'.
I also love 'If It Wasn't For The Nights', which would also have been a huge Hit Single in 1979. Indeed, ABBA had planned to release it as the 1st 'Voulez-Vous' Single, but they then decided on 'Chiquitita' instead. (Either way, I feel that it would have made a far better ABBA Single than 'Does Your Mother Know', which was not a big UK & German Hit - No.4 here & No.10 in Germany. Even No.4 was an average result for ABBA, (UK), at that stage of their Career).
LILY JAMES -- (THE YOUNG 'DONNA') -- SHE CAN REALLY SING
Apart from Cher, it is a relief that Lily James can also really sing. She has a lovely voice. So, that is another welcome relief - that we are not to see ABBA Songs totally 'murdered' by all of the Actors in 'Mamma Mia 2' - just by some of them!
Lily played Cinderella in the 2015 Film of the same name. She sang 'A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes', which was originally included in Walt Disney's 1950 Cartoon Film of 'Cinderella'. I was very relieved - and surprised - to hear that Lily's voice is so good.

I don't think Dum Dum Diddle has made the cut, has it? The song is rumoured to be a metaphor for an even more solitary and personal activity than practising hard on the violin. I'm not sure how they could weave that into the script.

Just out of curiosity, how many " new tracks" are they allowed to add / change to " More Gold" without it becoming a " new album" .
as at the moment it looks like the obvious album to promote for MM2.
or is a new album in the pipeline ?

Graham, (Foreverfan) - I often wonder how many 'fresh' Tracks can be added to an 'old', ('original'), UK Album, before The Official Charts Company decides that it can no longer be regarded as the same Album - even if it keeps its original Title.
Here are The Official UK Charts Rules on the matter - updated in July 2017:
4.1 Combining Formats for Album Chart
Unlimited album formats may be combined for chart placing providing they adhere to all chart rules
4.2 Alternative Album Formats (Deluxe, Re-Issues)
Transactions of alternative versions of an album where the alternative version features additional audio and / or audio visual material to the standard album version, will be combined provided:
• The alternative format contains 100% of the audio tracks as featured on the standard version
• The additional material on the alternative format has not been previously available for purchase or stream in its entirety as a separate product
If the additional tracks are released as a separate product, transactions of an album cannot be combined with those of the original format. This is applicable even if the album contains mixes/live/extended versions of songs on the original format.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Graham - So, an Album can have 'Bonus' Tracks added - and still be regarded as the same Album - as long as all of the Tracks on the original/old version are included and as long as the 'Bonus' Tracks have not been on Sale in the past. Of course, any 'Bonus' ABBA Tracks on 'More ABBA Gold' would have been on Sale/available to buy, in the past. However, I think that crucial wording is 'In its entirety as a separate product'.
Whilst any 'Bonus' Tracks on 'More ABBA Gold' will have been available in the past, they were certainly not all in one place - on the same old ABBA Compilation. So - in my view - they cannot have all been available, 'in their entirety', in the past. So - as they were spread over several ABBA Albums, they would be allowed to be added to 'More ABBA Gold', as a sort of 'Deluxe' Edition - and the UK Charts Company would still see it as 'More ABBA Gold' - and allow its Sales to be added to the 'old' version of 'More ABBA Gold'.
That is how I interpret the Chart Rules, anyhow. I could be wrong. In 2014 The OCC refused to regard the 3 CD 'ABBA Gold' as the same Album as 'ABBA Gold'. They told me that this was because it had 2 'Bonus' Disks, with 40 'Bonus' Tracks, between them. They said that adding 40 Tracks to the usual 19 Track/1 CD 'ABBA Gold' was 'too much', for it to be regarded as the same Album, as the 'original' version. So, the Sales of the 1 CD 'Gold' & the 3 CD 'Gold' were not allowed to be combined.
Benny & Bjorn's problem, (& Universal's), is that whilst several 'More Gold' Songs will be in 'Mamma Mia! 2', many of the ABBA Album Tracks included in it have no Global ABBA Compilation for Fans of the Film to buy. Most people will not buy ABBA Studio Albums. Therefore, it is better - and wiser - for those ABBA Album Tracks to be 'showcased' on an ABBA Compilation. Which is where adding 'Bonus' Tracks, to 'More Gold', comes in.
So far, those 'Bonus Tracks' are:, 'Why Did It Have To Be Me', 'I've Been Waiting For You', 'As Good As New' and 'If It Wasn't For The Nights' - but there are bound to be more ABBA Album Tracks, in the Film, that are not on either 'ABBA Gold' or 'More ABBA Gold'. We are talking about - maybe - 6 to 8 'Bonus' Tracks being added to 'More ABBA Gold' - and whether the UK Charts Company, (& other Countries Charts Companies), will still regard the 2018 Edition as still being the original 'More ABBA Gold'.
In 2008 The Official Charts Company allowed a 'Deluxe' version of 'Rockferry' by Duffy, to have its Sales added to the original version. The 'Deluxe' version had a 2nd CD added to it, with 6 New Tracks. But, those 6 Tracks really were New & had not previously been available elsewhere. In November 2009, The Official Charts Company allowed the Sales of 'The Fame' & 'The Fame Monster', by Lady GaGa, to be combined. 'The Fame Monster' was an 8 Track CD, that was added to 'The Fame' as a 'Bonus' Disk. It was allowed, because the 8 'Bonus' Tracks were New & had not been available in the past.
Any 'Bonus' Tracks on 'More ABBA Gold' will not be New, of course - but nor have they all been on Sale on the same ABBA Compilation before. So - could that fact, make it OK to add them to 'More ABBA Gold'?...
