^^^^^^ Thank you.
So it's a possibility. I always thought that " more" deserved a higher placing than 13 here in the UK, and greater success, it could have the potential to be ABBAs 10th number one here in the UK, which would be fantastic. So we will see what happens.
Although, a new compilation would do well , again a possible number 1, riding on the back of MM2, is it really worth doing, that's all assuming Universal are even planning a release or re-release of course, there's another possibility that they do nothing and let the " new Soundtrack of MM2" do all the work and sales, and let the likes of Gold add a few more .
time will tell.

I'm hoping that Universal will re-promote 'More ABBA Gold', when 'Mamma Mia! 2' is released.
After all, the Songs in Film 2 will be more about 'More ABBA Gold' than 'ABBA Gold'.
In 2008 Universal re-promoted 'Gold', on the back of Film 1 & it returned to No.1 for the 5th time, (UK), for its 7th & 8th No.1 Weeks.
Also in 2008, the '18 Hits' Album, (2005), re-entered the UK Charts & it Peaked at No.15. It had previously only been as high as No.46 - in 2007.
Universal did not re-promote 'More ABBA Gold' in 2008, so it only Peaked at No.63, (for 2 non-consecutive Weeks), when it re-entered the Charts, that Year. Which was rather a disappointment, after it Peaked at No.14 in 1993 & No.13 in 1999. It is time that it was a Top 10 Hit in the UK - seeing as 'ABBA Gold' has spent 58 Weeks in the UK Top 10.
In December 2008 Universal released a 9 Album ABBA CD Box Set - 'The Albums'. It had all 8 of ABBA's Studio Albums in it and a 17 Track 'Bonus Disk'. That was also a UK Hit - reaching No.89 for 2 Weeks.
The 1st Film caused 'Mamma Mia' to re-enter the UK Singles Chart & it reached No.56. 'Dancing Queen' also re-entered and that reached No.82.
The Official Charts Company now have a Rule, (since 2017), that only 3 Songs by the same Artist can be in the Top 100 at the same time. This is because Ed Sheeran had 16 Songs, in the UK Top 20, in early 2017! The OCC decided that it must never, ever happen again - by any Act. (I believe that the same Act, is still allowed, to have as many Hit Albums - at the same time - that they can get into the Album Chart Top 100).

^^ so nothing official, even rumoured..
I guess Mamma Mia, could chart again, I think it plays a bigger part in MM2, more prominent.
whatever happens I guess we will see ABBA somewhere in the charts, wouldn't it be great if they got AGAN or another non single in the charts, alas it won't be huge, as so difficult for older acts to chart...

I don't think Dum Dum Diddle has made the cut, has it? The song is rumoured to be a metaphor for an even more solitary and personal activity than practising hard on the violin. I'm not sure how they could weave that into the script. I'd never heard that about Dum Dum Diddle, but I had heard it about the Beach Boys song In My Room (but I don't believe it), and the song (All I Have To Do Is) Dream (I see how it could be true in that case).

Graham - Foreverfan - Universal will have to re-promote 'More ABBA Gold', as they cannot just rely on Film 2 to get it back into the Charts. Remember - they never bothered to re-promote it in 2008, and it only reached No.63, in the UK, that Year. ('More ABBA Gold' Charted best in Sweden, where it reached No.3 & it spent 30 Weeks in the Top 60 - that was from 1993 on-wards & not just in 2008).
I'm hoping that Universal find a way to match an ABBA Compilation, with the actual ABBA Songs that are in Film 2. It was never done for the 1st Film, so the many people who heard 'Slipping Through My Fingers', for the first time, had no 'Hits' Album to buy it on. Just the 'Deluxe' Edition of 2006's Number Ones' Album, but that was not exactly widely available by July 2008. (Most People tend not to buy ABBA Studio Albums, so there was no chance of them hearing it on 'The Visitors').
I'd also like to see 'Happy New Year' get a place on an ABBA 'Hits' Album, seeing as it has been a Hit in several Countries, including reaching No.4 in Sweden, No.5 in Norway & No.8 in The Netherlands. Every New Year's Eve & New Year's Day, it becomes a Global Itunes Hit - but the UK, Ireland, USA, and other English speaking Countries, never join in. They virtually ignore it. If it were only given a place on a Global ABBA 'Hits' Album, it would get into the thoughts of the English speaking World, & we too would all make it an iTunes Hit every New Year. It is time that this happened. (Most people will not buy it on the 'Super Trouper' Album).
Zeebee - I too have heard that the Beach Boys 'In My Room' is about masturbation. Also, 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones & 'Pictures Of Lily' by The Who.

The only problem about Happy New Year, is that it's not 'Happy", a very good song but very melancholy, it doesn't make you want up and dance..lol..plus " we all know " 89" needs changing.
That all said, it was a huge missed opportunity in 1980, it should've been a double A side with Super Trouper, there was potential that it could've regained number 1, as pretty duff number ones at the time, Starting Over by John Lennon, tragic as it was was only number 1 for one week, and was going down rapidly, until his untimely death, That was replaced by the horrendous There's No One Quite Like Grandma, by St Winifred's Choir, the novelty hit, and was Christmas/ New Year number one. Super Trouper was still riding high for those weeks, 4, 5, 5 then 8. If it had been a double A, it would've been played a lot on the radio and had as above the potential to climb back, albeit for it to plummet out of the charts soon after, which ST did anyway, but it would've been a hit, and known, and could've re charted for years, as it does in Europe....
Alas all "if's buts and maybes " hindsight is a wonderful thing....
Its a shame that its a "forgotten track" outside of "us"
So perhaps an inclusion somewhere may help...
we we will see,

Kisses of Fire has also been confirmed. Plus 'something new" - I think there's talk of it being premiered at the next week's Grammi Awards.

Foreverfan - I too cannot find any confirmation - at all - that 'Kisses Of Fire' is in Film 2. I too hope that it is, as I really like it.
The Rubber Ball Man and Zeebee - I also think that 'Put On Your White Sombrero' suits Cher's voice. I cannot see Benny & Bjorn allowing it to be in the Film, as they see it as a 'flawed' ABBA Song. (As is also the case with 'Just Like That' - they see that as 'not good enough', too).
'Chiquitita' - It was sung in Film 1, but not included on the Soundtrack CD. Bjorn has now confirmed that it will be included on the Soundtrack for Film 2. I presume that this will be a re-recording by some of the Film 2 Cast. It may or may not be included in Film 2. If it is, then it means that at least 5 Songs from Film 1 are in Film 2 - 'Waterloo', 'Mamma Mia', 'Dancing Queen', 'Chiquitita', and 'I Have A Dream'. With 'The Name Of The Game' included in Film 2, because it was Filmed and then cut from Film 1.....

I have just heard that 'On and On and On' will also be in 'Mamma Mia! 2'. (It was called 'One and One and One', in the Article that revealed this! The Article also said that it is from 'ABBA - The Album'! I've corrected the Article & said that no such ABBA Track exists, that they mean 'On and On and On' and that it is from the 'Super Trouper' Album).
So now we know of 5 'Mamma Mia! 2' Songs that were on 'More ABBA Gold' - 'When I Kissed The Teacher', 'I Wonder (Departure)', 'Summer Night City', 'Angel Eyes' and 'On and On and On'. Plus the remaining Tracks off 'ABBA Gold', that were not in the 1st Film - 'Fernando', 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', 'The Name Of The Game', (which was cut from Film 1), and 'One Of Us'. Then we also have various Album Tracks in the 2nd Film. As well as Film 1 Songs that are used again - such as 'Mamma Mia' & 'Dancing Queen'.
I think that Film 2 will be a big surprise, to many who see it. A great many people only know 20 to 30 ABBA Songs, & they think that 'everything' was used in Film 1. I've seen many people saying that. They think that Film 2 is going to be Songs from Film 1, with only 'Fernando' & 'Angel Eyes' being 'fresh'. So, they are in for a shock, when they hear several ABBA Songs that they never knew existed.
The less well known 'Mamma Mia! 2' ABBA Album Tracks include: 'I've Been Waiting For You', 'Why Did it Have To Be Me?', 'As Good As New', 'If It Wasn't For The Nights' and 'Kisses Of Fire'. (in 1979 ABBA almost released 'If It Wasn't For The Nights', as their 1st Single off the 'Voulez Vous' Album. Then they changed their minds & released 'Chiquitita' instead).

Graham - I regularly look at an on-going 'List' of 'Mamma Mia! 2' Songs. 'Kisses Of Fire' was added to that 'List' just a couple of days ago. I'm assuming that this means that it has now been confirmed as definitely being included in the Film.
'Why Did It Have To Be Me?' was added to the 'List' about a Week ago - as was 'Chiquitita'.
'On and On and On' was added to the 'List' just 1 day ago.
So, I'm assuming that this means that all 4 of those ABBA Songs are 'Officially' in 'Mamma Mia! 2'.
Elsewhere, I replied, (in a Post), to an ABBA hater, today. He made it clear, that he does not just hate 'Mamma Mia!', but he cannot stand ABBA either. Like so many of these negative people, he was predicting doom & disaster for Film 2. He said that it is going to flop, (or 'bomb', as they say in the USA).
It amuses me, that these people think that they have a say in how well ABBA or 'Mamma Mia!' does! I pointed out to him, that it is ABBA Fans & Fans of the 1st Film, who will decide how big Film 2 is. That the 'haters' have Zero say in the matter.
In 2008, I was told, (several people), that Film 1 was going to 'flop'. Then it became the UK's biggest Box Office success of all time. 'ABBA Gold' returned to No.1, (UK), for the 5th time. The Soundtrack of Film 1 sold over 5 Million World-wide, with over 1,800,000 USA Sales & over 1,500,000 UK Sales. The Soundtrack was No.1 in the UK Compilation Chart for 11 Weeks. No.1 in the UK Soundtrack Chart for over 30 Weeks. The Film came out on DVD, in November 2008. It sold an incredible 1,600,000+ UK copies on its 1st Day of release & over 3 Million UK copies by the end of that Week. It is now the UK's biggest ever DVD, with over 5,000,000 UK Sales. So much for the 'haters', who told me that Film 1 had no chance to be a success! Now they are saying the same things about Film 2. As if they have any influence, or input, in how well, (or badly), 'Mamma Mia! 2' fares in Cinemas & on DVD.
I find the 'Star Wars' Films boring, but I'm not silly enough to say that each one is going to 'flop', just because I don't like them! It is the same with people who dislike ABBA & 'Mamma Mia!' 1 & 2.

Perhaps Pierce Brosnan could release an album of his versions of all the songs in Mamma Mia 2? It would be a dead cert number one!

I've just noticed that 'Bang-A-Boomerang' has now been added to the 'List', of ABBA Songs, that are to be in 'Mamma Mia! 2'. I know that the Song is rather 'silly', but I have liked it since I first heard it, in 1976, when I bought ABBA's 'Greatest Hits' Album. It is good that Benny & Bjorn have allowed so many catchy ABBA Songs, to be used in the 2nd Film. It matters not, that many people will not know a lot of the Songs, when they go to the Cinema in July & August. The Songs are very easy to recall the words to, so it will not harm the Box Office, (at all), that several Songs will be 'new', to a great many people, who go to see the Film. (After all, every Track on 'ABBA Gold', was 'new' to ABBA Fans, when they first heard them. Every ABBA Album Track, in Film 2, was also 'new', when those ABBA Studio Albums 1st came out. I doubt if most Fans of 'Grease' had heard most, (if any), of the Songs in it, when that Film came out, in 1978. I certainly knew none of them. 'Grease', was still a huge success, and the Soundtrack sold Millions, around the World).
When the 2nd Film is released, there will not be an ABBA Compilation to match the Songs in it. I'm hoping that Universal, (and Benny & Bjorn), realize this, and allow an ABBA Compilation to come out, with all of the Songs in Film 2.
Some ABBA Fans are expecting Film 2 to cause 'ABBA Gold' to take off again, but that only contains about 8 or 9 of the Songs in it. Even 'More ABBA Gold' 'only' contains about 5 of the Songs from Film 2 - there may be more, when we know every ABBA Song that is in the Film No Global ABBA Compilation contains the rest of the Film 2 Songs. Such as: 'I've Been Waiting For You', 'Bang-A-Boomerang', 'Why Did It Have To Be Me?', 'As Good As New', 'If It Wasn't For The Nights' and 'Kisses Of Fire'.
It will be rather sad, if the 2nd Film, only raises the Sales of 'ABBA Gold', when more than half of the other ABBA Songs in it are not even on that Compilation. It will be a lost chance, for Universal to make a big impact, with a Compilation that better mirrors what is actually sung in the 2nd Film.
Gary - Sadly, Benny & Bjorn think that Pierce Brosnan can sing. Benny has defended Pierce's 'singing' many times. He insists that the former 007 has a 'good voice'. I've yet to be convinced. I doubt if most people think that he has anything but a very poor singing voice.

Obviously it will re interest Gold, and increase sales, to what extent remains to be seen, perhaps making the UK top 10? Nudging closer to that 6 million , that all said it could be Golds last appearance in the UK charts, until MM 3 ..lol, so what's left, More Gold, is looking increasingly unlikely as many of the tracks don't appear on it, unless they totally rebrand, which in essence would be a new album. I'm beginning to think more and more there will be a new compilation, with probably some unimaginative title, like ABBA " Here We Go Again". That said it would have the potential to make ABBAs 10th number one here in the UK. Long over due.... as for singles reaching the chart, highly unlikely, with only Cher making any impact, and her last song " Walls" failed to make the top 100. Bang a boomerang, very catchy track, just intrigued to know how they will weave the tracks into the story... getting to be a lot of songs now for the film 20? How many in the first? as per always we will will have to wait...

Graham - Remember, 'Greatest Hits' (One), by Queen, has not really sold over 6 Million UK copies. The OCC now have it on 6,300,000 UK Sales - a massive 940,000 more than 'ABBA Gold', which has a minimum of 5,436,000 UK Sales, to W/E 22nd February 2018.
The Queen Album is really on 5,674,000 UK Sales. The 6,300,000 Total includes 560,000 Sales, from 'The Platinum Collection' & 66,000 Sales from a Double CD, from 1994. So, 'Greatest Hits' has no less than 626,000 Sales added in from 2 other Queen releases. Its true 5,674,000 Sales are 314,000 more than 'ABBA Gold' - not 940,000 more.
There really should be an ABBA Compilation, to match the Songs in 'Mamma Mia! 2'. We had that Triple Disk 'ABBA Gold', in 2014, which had 'ABBA Gold' + 'More Gold', + 20 'B' Sides. However, even the Disk, with 20 'B' Sides on it, only has two of the less well known 'Mamma Mia! 2' Tracks on it. Those 2 Songs being: 'I've Been Waiting For You' and 'Kisses Of Fire'. There should be an ABBA Compilation, that far better 'mirrors' what is in Film 2. It is time, that the many ABBA Songs, that are not on 'ABBA Gold', got the attention that they deserve. Instead of the 19 Songs, on 'ABBA Gold', forever being 'highlighted'.

I agree with you "onlyabba4me"! As I´ve suggested before here somewhere, I would have named it "Abba - The Originals". I would suggest a 2CD set with all the songs from both films and put a sticker on it to make clear that it´s all the songs. I think it´s a brilliant idea and then they would be able to sell the old ones one more time as well. What do you think?

I wonder which song will be ‘ The winner takes it all’ big number. Liking the list of songs so far but I thought Ring Ring would have been a definite and maybe the ‘way old friends do’ and Arrival as Cher arrives in a helicopter as a nod to the album cover. Maybe Ring Ring overlooked because of the collaboration with Neil Sedaka?

If the 2nd 'Mamma Mia!' Film follows the same pattern as Film 1, then we now know virtually every ABBA Song that will be in it.
The 1st Film had 23 ABBA Songs in it, but 3 of them were done twice 'Mamma Mia', 'Dancing Queen' & 'I Have A Dream'. So Film 1 had 20 different ABBA Songs in it. ('The Name Of The Game' would have been a 21st ABBA Song, but it was cut from the Film).
We already know at least 18 of the ABBA Songs in Film 2 - 19, if 'I Have A Dream' is in it.
So, if there are to be just 20 different ABBA Songs, in Film 2, there are only 1 or 2 left, that we do not know about. Unless, Film 2 will have more Songs in it & there are 4 or 5 more of them.
These 15 ABBA Songs Were Not In Film 1 - But Are In Film 2
01)... “Bang-A-Boomerang” from ABBA -- (1975)
02)... “I’ve Been Waiting For You” from ABBA -- (1975)
03)... “Fernando” non-Album Single -- (1976)
04)... “When I Kissed The Teacher" from Arrival -- (1976)
05)... “Knowing Me, Knowing You” from Arrival -- (1976)
06)... "Why Did It Have To Be Me?" from Arrival -- (1976)
07)... "The Name Of The Game" from ABBA: The Album -- (1977) @@@
08)... "I Wonder (Departure)" from ABBA: The Album -- (1977)
09)... “Summer Night City” non-Album Single -- (1978)
10)... "As Good As New" from Voulez-Vous -- (1979)
11)... "Angel Eyes" from Voulez-Vous -- (1979)
12)... “If It Wasn't For The Nights” from Voulez-Vous -- (1979)
13)... "Kisses Of Fire" from Voulez-Vous -- (1979)
14)... “On and On and On” from Super Trouper -- (1980)
15)... “One Of Us” from The Visitors -- (1981)
@@@ = Filmed For Film 1 - Then Cut From It
These 3 Songs Will Be Re-used From The 1st Film
A)... “Waterloo” from Waterloo -- (1974)
B)... “Mamma Mia” from ABBA -- (1975)
C)... “Dancing Queen” from Arrival -- (1976)
This Song Has Been in One of The Trailers - But Not Confirmed As Being In Film 2
“I Have a Dream” from Voulez-Vous -- (1979)

At Digital Spy Forums, someone was saying that he only knows a small number of the ABBA Songs in 'Mamma Mia! 2'. That the 2nd Film could end up only appealing to ABBA Fans, due to lack of familiarity with many of the Songs in it, I've added Videos of 8 of the, 'less well known', Songs in it, to the 'Mamma Mia! 2' Threads in both the Movies & Music Section there. The 8 Videos are those for, 'Kisses Of Fire', 'As Good As New', 'I've Been Waiting For You', 'On and On and On', 'When I Kissed The Teacher', 'Bang-A-Boomerang', 'If It Wasn't For The Nights', & 'Why Did It Have To Be Me?'.
Before the 8 Videos I've written this:
I'm aware of the fact that many of the ABBA Songs in Film 2 are not well known. (To people who are not dedicated ABBA Fans). However, it makes no difference, as to whether Film 2 will be big.
Several of the 'unknown' Songs are so catchy that people can pick up the words & melodies in no time. Especially if they see the Film more than once, as many people did with Film 1, in 2008.
You really do not have to know the Songs in a Musical for it to be a success. In 1978, I doubt if most people, who went to see 'Grease', had previously heard many - or even any - of the Songs in it. It was still a huge Film & the Soundtrack spent 13 Weeks at No.1 in the UK.
Indeed, the Film 2 ABBA Songs were, (mostly), unknown to ABBA Fans, when they first came out on their Studio Albums. It did not stop those Albums selling Millions around the World. (The same goes for the ABBA Songs in Film 1, in 2008).
The ABBA Songs in Film 2 are so catchy, that one would have to be an imbecile not to get the melodies stuck in your head. ABBA could have had far more than 19 UK Top 10 Hits, (9 at No.1). A lot of their Album Tracks were really strong enough to be Singles - and this will be a surprise, to those who don't know the Songs, when they see the 2nd Film.
It really matters not that 'Bang-A-Boomerang' is rather silly. It is meant to be a fun sing-a-long Track. ABBA were about melody & fun really, They never claimed to be Bob Dylan. That is something that many people never get - that ABBA never wanted to be 'deep' in their Music. It does not make a lot of their Tracks 'rubbish'. Just catchy. That's it.

2 'New' Songs have now been announced for 'Mamma Mia! 2'.
They are 'Super Trouper' & 'Hasta Manana'.
NOTE -- I'm told that Cher will be singing 'Super Trouper', as well as 'Fernando'.
I guess that 'Super Trouper' is in it because Lily James says it is her favourite ABBA Song.
'Hasta Manana' I think is very catchy & soothing. You will probably know, that it was between it & 'Waterloo', that ABBA planned to enter for the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. They decided to go with the up-tempo 'Waterloo', as the Contest had been dominated by Ballads for Decades, & 'Hasta Manana' was not 'surprising' enough. 'Waterloo' stood out more.
So, that's 8 confirmed Tracks from 'ABBA Gold'. 9 if 'I Have A Dream' is in it, & 10 if 'Chiquitita' is in it.
Plus 5 confimed Tracks from 'More ABBA Gold'.
Plus 7 confirmed Tracks, that are on neither 'ABBA Gold' nor 'More ABBA Gold'.
Making 20 confirmed Tracks & 2 'maybe' Tracks.
It would be a terrible shame if Universal did not release an ABBA Compilation - to tie in with the Film - that included the 7 Non-Gold Tracks. I'd add in 'Slipping Through My Fingers' too, seeing as a great many people liked it in Film 1, & it too is on neither 'Gold' CD.
I do hope that we are not going to see Universal concentrating only on promoting 'Gold' again! It really is time that ABBA's less well known Tracks got attention! After all - several of them are going to be 'sung' - mostly poorly - in Film 2. At least let ABBA's original's get some attention!

There are a number of Abba songs from both Mamma Mias on More Abba Gold. Maybe the additional tracks not on either Abba Gold or Moregold could be homed there. Maybe dropping a few from the original More Gold. Take out Lovelight, the Way old friends do, Head over Heels , Cassandra , So long and add in Slipping through my fingers, WDIHTBM, bang a boomerang, As good as new , if it wasn’t for the nights, kisses of fire and I’ve been waiting for you. This would mean that all the songs from both Mamma mias plus a few gems like Eagle and The visitors could be found on both albums. Just a thought. Would allow universal to promote More Abba gold and hopefully give Abba another number one as people would be more familiar with lesser known Abba songs after the release of Mamma Mia 2.

I think a new ABBA compilation has the greatest chance of commercial success. We all know that the original studio albums are never going to sell in any quantity again, unfortunately. ABBA Gold has already sold so many copies that the market for that is limited, though consistent. Tweaking More ABBA Gold might work, but why not simply release a 'soundtrack' of the new film featuring all the ABBA originals?
