For a while I wondered if, during the Voyage recording sessions, ABBA recorded more songs than appeared on the album - and the two unreleased songs. But would they have bothered with an old track such as Just A Notion had that been the case? (By the way, I think that, on the whole, I actually prefer the original version of JAN).
They certainly had enough time to write and record more songs than Voyage + 2. But that's assuming they had the necessary creativity and energy. I'm guessing - again, because of the inclusion of JAN - that that creativity and energy was a bit lacking.
So if it's only, possibly, to be these two formerly unfinished songs to be added to their released catalogue, then putting them on a deluxe edition of the Voyage album in 2024 as their 50th anniversary commemoration seems to me the obvious, logical choice.

Some good points. I have commented a few times on perhaps they were running out of steam hence the inclusion of JAN and time it took to finish those two songs. Perhaps those 2 new Voyage songs should be on a deluxe edition after all - if they are nothing special. But I wouldn't expect a deluxe edition to sell very much. I do think there should, and will be some sort of compilation next year. Perhaps a Voyage Show type compilation. Something that would be "new".

“Heart Attack” was tame compared to Madness’s “Cardiac Arrest”. Perhaps it might just be “Hit Like A Train”. I’d be disappointed if this song isn’t one of the two as I really want to hear it! Did someone have a title for the other Voyage outtake? I seem to recall Adam had one but not sure where it came from. 'Hit Me Like A Train' & 'My Story Ends With You' were the titles of the two songs left off the Voyage album according to a Facebook status on one of the ABBA pages in 2022. I personally would love one of the songs to be called 'Voyage' so the album as an actual title track I know 3 ABBA albums don't have a title track. I really hope that ABBA can give new life to a few more songs from the Undeleted medley no reason why they couldn't do a new backing track for 'Just Like That' and re-use the 1982 vocals same treatment they did with 'Just A Notion'. A vocal version of 'Arrival' in time for Christmas would be wonderful. 'Rikky Rock 'N' Roller' which was recorded in 1974 or 1975 during the sessions for the ABBA album is one of my favourite songs and it would be nice to hear it released in full along with 'Rubber Ball Man', 'Autumn Days' (Hamlet) & 'Giving A Little Bit More'.

I would prefer it if Ode To Freedom was replaced its the one song on the Voyage album I am not keen on even when I first heard it

There might be several releases not one. One of them being the deluxe of Voyage incl. videos for the singles. When the second show in another city will play I think we will get the deluxe inc. 2 new songs.

Hope I didn't give the impression in my previous post that I think that Just A Notion should be removed from the Voyage album. I don't think that. My point was that perhaps if they'd had more new songs which they thought were worthy and ready to go on the album at the time they wouldn't have turned to such an old track. Actually, I like the tune for JAN - I think it's a really good pop melody. But I don't like its revised arrangement - apart from the outro with Benny reiterating the tune on piano; I think that's great - in the new version on Voyage. In particular I can't take to the boogie shuffle rhythm. But I'm sure, as you say, many love this version of JAN and it should stay on Voyage.
Regarding adding tracks to a familiar album, it shouldn't really bother me because, once I got used to the songs on it, I often picked my favourites and listened to them separately. Even more so nowadays. My bad.

It’s not always helpful to name sources. Not helpful to the source who could get into trouble, and could negatively affect future leaks. As it supports what Catherine Tate said on Zoe Ball (expanding on it) I’m prepared to go with it. Sorry if this has been covered already (don't think I saw it mentioned otherwise on this thread) but what did Catherine Tate and Zoe Ball say in relation to this? Hugely excited for 2024 already!

Sorry if this has been covered already (don't think I saw it mentioned otherwise on this thread) but what did Catherine Tate and Zoe Ball say in relation to this? Hugely excited for 2024 already! Took me a while to find it as it wasn’t in the most obvious thread! Not sure where to put this, but hot news I found on facebook this afternoon... Catherine Tate was interviewed this morning on Zoe Ball Radio show. She is about to reprise her role as Donna on Dr. Who. She mentioned that Russell T Davies (Dr Who writer) is a friend of Bjorn and recently stayed with him on a trip to Stockholm. Bjorn told him about the two unreleased "Voyage" tracks and said watch this space for news about their release at a special event.... That part of the interview was very swiftly removed from streaming platforms (including BBC Sounds). I’ve moved the posts about it to this topic.

The two songs released at a special event? Maybe they will be an EP and not have an album home.

If we do get 2 more songs, I think it would be best to release one at a time, rather than both together. And with an ABBAtar video for at least one? What do you all think?

I agree with an ABBAtar video and I there is no lyric video for 'I Still Have Faith In You' when all the other songs on the 'Voyage' album got lyrics videos I actually would prefer to release both songs at the same time.

There is no reason why OTF cannot remain the album's closing track - for example, on a CD. Two new songs could easily be added on a Deluxe Edition as tracks 10 and 11, leaving OTF as track 12....or the new songs could be slotted into other places. There's no rule against not doing so.....

I’ve never known that to be the case with any album from any act, and I’ve got loads that have bonus tracks. As with ABBA’s other albums, the bonus tracks are added at the end. It’s usually made clear that they’re bonus tracks and the original album retains its running order. In the days of vinyl and cassette, we didn’t have much choice but to listen to every song on an album as it was much more difficult to “skip” songs. In the current era, you can skip anything you like. If you don’t like bonus tracks added at the end of albums, you’re under no obligation whatsoever to listen to them.

Unless anyone on this forum heard Catherine Tate speak about the ABBA tracks, I’d take it with a massive pinch of salt. That’s not to say that something isn’t going to happen with the unreleased tracks, but confirmation via Catherine Tate via Russell T Davies sounds suspect. Russell was photographed at the ABBA Voyage anniversary concert but it didn’t exactly look like he was great mates with Bjorn.

Unless anyone on this forum heard Catherine Tate speak about the ABBA tracks, I’d take it with a massive pinch of salt. It was reported elsewhere in the ABBA community, so she definitely said it. However, the subsequent post by a member on here refers to a very reliable source. It is not related to what Catherine Tate said, though it supports it. I therefore definitely think it will happen, but it’s not yet confirmed.

As an example, Sophie Elis-Bextor's 'Read My Lips' CD was reissued with bonus tracks a year after its original release - the song order was moved around and the extra tracks were not simply added to the end. That’s a good example but it’s quite rare. With that album, it was more of a re-launch/re-release. I don’t see that happening with Voyage. In any case, Ode to Freedom would still be the last track of the album proper, no matter how many tracks came after it.

I kinda like the idea of inserting extra tracks amongst the existing running order. Just because it's not commonly done, doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't. If ABBA can lead the way with the cutting edge concert idea, then why not go out on a limb in other areas? Even if the extra tracks were simply added to the end of the album, I think many of us would have fun jigging the running order around to satisfy fantasies.
I can see a downside, though. If new material suddenly appears as, say, track 5 and track 8, will it give the impression that the original album was rushed out, unfinished? Would people think they had been sold a well-marketed pup? Would ABBA look like they were beholden to, and under the thumb of Universal in getting ten tracks across the line for some notional deadline in 2021? Would it look like ABBA got retrospective cold feet about their album?
Now every dog on the street is releasing "deluxe" edition albums a year after the fact with new tracks and, sometimes, remixes attached. Nobody suggests that the artist shortchanged the audience with the original set. We're coming up on two years since the release of Voyage. To me, that seems about as long as you could stretch things for the standard "deluxe" edition approach. But what do I know? It could be a roaring success. Does anyone have stats about the hit rates for deluxe editions?
Personally, I'd like to see at the new tracks emerge as part of an anthology/career-spanning retrospective.

Judging by Björns recent comment about it not being a re release I think a voyage deluxe is highly unlikely. I think Tony's idea of the tracks appearing on an anthology of some sort would be much more attractive.

You definetly have a point here. Let's face it: The Voyage album, and the vinyl version in particular, performed so well in sales because the crazy fans bought not "just an album"but more a bunch of versions of one album. I bought 8 different Vinyl versions alone plus the CD Deluxe and a Japanese CD and one Cassette all at once. I never did that before and surely will not do it again. Issuing now a Deluxe Set with those two Songs would signal: "Hey, we might haven't done it properly first time around". But this never was or is how ABBA work. There should be another way of releasing this new stuff....

Issuing now a Deluxe Set with those two Songs would signal: "Hey, we might haven't done it properly first time around". But this never was or is how ABBA work. It kind of is, at least retrospectively. Since 1997, ABBA’s albums have been reissued multiple times (well, four anyway) with bonus tracks relating to the period. Voyage is therefore lacking in that department at present. Waterloo and The Album lack exclusive tracks but do at least have alternate versions. If it is just the two “outtakes” that we are to get, then they’d serve the same purpose as the likes of the b-sides added to other albums do now. Not good enough for the album proper but closely related to it. And let‘s face it, modern deluxe editions (released the same day as the standard version) merely have extra tracks that would have been b-sides in the old days, ie. not considered good enough for the main album (just today I saw Blur’s new album, with the deluxe edition having two extra tracks). However, if there are more than these two tracks (and if any others do not relate to the Voyage sessions) then I agree, there might be a better way of releasing them. I would hope that an anthology does not have anything previously released in the exact same form on it. If it met that criteria it would be extremely exciting!

But Alan, there is a difference, to pump up Editions of very old albums from a back-catalogue with some bonus tracks in retrospective or to add previously unreleased tracks to the latest oevre which,OK, is soon 2 years old but not a historical album yet. Also, Just in the last year Universal re-vamped the Album Vinyl and CD boxes. Just to have an updated Voyage 1 year later? I really hope that Universal/Polar/ABBA think of some other way to release new material, if they release it at all.

or not..... It seems to have gone quite quiet again in general and on here, no disrespect and it's great to see new members posting..it's mostly to do with old subjects , which is fine as I imagine there are angles that even the most seasoned fan may see / think differently about..
However there's nothing really new to talk about, we had a little flurry about the potential release of those two ( possibly more) tracks that got everybody excited for 5 minutes ( naturally ) then it died ...
So do you think it was a deliberate ploy by whoever to leak that news ? To keep the public/ us interested or was it a genuine mistake ? Also do you think it's deliberate at the moment to say nothing about the future... i.e. 50th anniversary/ Eurovision etc, all part of a marketing ploy for that final flourish....
Did I miss ? What was Zoe Balls big secret , surely it wasn't that so called " talent " show...
Your thoughts on ABBA Marketing in general, good ? Bad ? Past and present.....

I think its the quiet before the storm.we need to be patient. Not one of my best qualities! I cannot see anything happening before April 2024, so I guess they wish to keep things under wraps until then. I'm confident things are happening behind the scene. Whether the results and releases will be what we wish for is something entirely different...

Yes, it's too early for any announcements but I'm sure justabba is right. It was the same before the release of Voyage. They are saving the surprises and I'm sure the attack on our wallets will be immense next year. Even Björn mused that the 50th Anniversary is too important for them to escape with just some kind of reissue (no doubt there will be at least one - Waterloo as a half-speed remaster and the accompanying singles box set and picture discs). I'm very curious. I believe that the screening of ABBA The Movie in September is the first event paving the way for the celebrations.
