Well, I’m going (for the second time) to the Voyage show on the 6th April.
Best case, all four are there, they have their photo taken with me, they premier the 2 new songs, and add the missing 6 songs to the show
Worst case, I get to see the awesome show again exactly 50 years to the hour from when I first saw them on Eurovision in ‘74
It would probably be better for my health if it’s just the “worst case” option, as I was a mess the first time I saw it 😂🤣
S’all good whatever. I’m trying to contain my excitement at present lest it throws me into a meltdown! 😭😭

MarkC, that's a good way to look at it - either way it's win-win. Let's hope that some time soon there's a massive announcement about some celebratory releases (preferably stuff we haven't heard before).

Carl Magnus Palm wrote in his new book, that Hit By A Train exists as a song.

We know it exists. Thing is, will it be released?
Begining to think no new songs, no new compilation even just that documentary and probably bits of media snippets.

Oh Johnny , I feel I'm on the same page as you..... I have a little optimism left, not much, that we will get something new, I know it's only March, but time is running out if they wish to celebrate the actual 50th anniversary, That said, I'll give it until then I guess,, then dare I say call it a day and resign myself to that's it..... It's been a brilliant 50 years and I've enough to keep me going to my end....
That little ray of hope is fading......

I've always thought anything ABBA release wise for their 50th would come nearer to Christmas as the record company knows that's when the big sales are. I'm still keeping positive and waiting sort of patiently until then!!!

Agreed. Q4 makes the most sense to me too. It makes the most of the entire calendar year. Pop a compilation/anthology out in November and look at the Christmas market giving sales an extra bump. The documentary in May should (I'd hope) give Gold a big boost. We'll have had the Waterloo HSM/singles box/pic discs in April. Possibly even a brief return to their respective charts for the album and singles. That would leave a gap in the period June to October. Ideally, Gold would still be riding high but why not reissue More Gold on vinyl around then?

The 50. anniversary is on 06.04.2024. That would be the only real day für a special release. I hope...

Here are my stand out moments from the voyage chapter by CMP..
1. Hit by a train was worked on throughout 2019 and completed by Jan 2020
2. Little boots describes the song as dark, beautiful, upbeat and SO ABBA
3, there is a completely different version of ode that was worked on throughout 2019.
Benny played all the voyage musicians 5 completed tracks I January 2020, of which train was one of the 5.
Apparently she was very surprised when voyage came out and the song wasent on it.

It’s something of a revelation that Hit By A Train was completed. It had previously been implied that it was one of two incomplete tracks that needed more work. If it is “dark, beautiful and upbeat” it sounds like it should have been on the album instead of Little Things. Or Just A Notion.
As a reminder, the other four songs at that point would be the obvious two, plus Bumblebee and I Can Be That Woman.
I was hoping the book might have dates for all the tracks but it would seem not.

If it is “dark, beautiful and upbeat” it sounds like it should have been on the album instead of Little Things. Or Just A Notion. Unless it's too close, stylistically, to one of the other album tracks? Or maybe it has a solo lead vocal that might upset the vocal balance on the album? So we have no information at all on My Story Ends With You? That's disappointing. Here are my stand out moments from the voyage chapter by CMP.. [...] 3, there is a completely different version of ode that was worked on throughout 2019. [...] That sounds properly interesting, and something that could grace an anthology and/or a deluxe edition of Voyage.

I always felt that the 3rd song Benny describes in 2018 being worked on for the show had to be Hit by a train. I knew Bumblebee and woman had been recorded in January 2019 but neither would be suitable. Now I've heard it described, Hit by a train perfectly fits the bill. I also thought they were holding the 2 songs back to use some time in the future. I thought perhaps to add train to the voyage show at some point. But now I'm not so sure.

The past 2 or 3 days on Instagram, Jeff Lynne's ELO have been doing teasers about some big news coming on Monday morning at 10am, and you can imagine some of the comments and speculation from ELO fans about what the news is...a new album, a tour etc. Whilst we ABBA fans had something similar build-up wise in August/September 2021, I can't help feeling a bit gutted that this anticipation and carefully timed teasing of possible new material isn't happening as we thought in 2024 for ABBA fans. It's part of the fun. I know there's still time as it's only March, and still a chance that there's nothing new coming at all, but I can't help feeling slightly envious of ELO fans this weekend.

2. Little boots describes the song as dark, beautiful, upbeat and SO ABBA "Dark [and] upbeat" - calls to mind an instruction producer Martin Hannett allegedly once gave to A Certain Ratio's guitarist Martin Moscrop during a recording session: "play faster but slower".

I don't see a reason for pesimism (yet). In 2014 the celebratory releases were spread throughout the whole year. It's true that we knew about some of them as early as winter 2013 (if I'm not mistaken, Benny himself revealed some of the plans in an interview) but I would not take the complete silence now as a proof that there's nothing happening. There were several hints last year but if there's something big coming, I'm not surprised that they want to keep it secret. I haven't expected any revelations about future releases in Palm's book. He would definitely not be allowed to do it even if he knew. The Waterloo reissues coincide with the actual anniversary (it would be really strange if nothing was released on 6th April) but they are just the beginning, I think.

Michal you're absolutely right. I wasent expecting any release news in his book and as you say that would never have been allowed!

Live at Wembley was a major release of the 40th anniversary year, which came out on 26 September 2014, so yes, there’s no reason to expect everything to happen next month.
And if Hit By A Train was finished by 2020, that’s also good as would mean Benny/ABBA didn’t have to complete it post-2021.

An interesting article from a couple of days ago which reveals that Benny has (recently?) had to update his studio to create Atmos mixes for 'Voyage', which means that they may be different to the Dolby mixes already available on Youtube. We already know that the whole ABBA catalogue is having the Atmos treatment, but it's good to know that Benny is as involved as he is: www.mixonline.com/recording/facilities/abbas-benny-andersson-voyages-into-immersive-mixing

For casual day-to-day listening 'on-the-go', I assume Atmos won't make much, if any, difference. But at home with the right equipment! The mention of '3D object placement' in recordings seems an exciting prospect. Will it allow, I wonder, Agnetha and Frida's vocals to be placed separately in the 3D space when it's deemed worth doing?

It was terrible and really detracted from it. It affected its impact on fans and critics leading to a poor appreciation of the band's efforts. What has saved Voyage has been some of the Atmos mixes on youtube - they more closely reflect the standard of ABBA in the past!

Regarding the mixing of Voyage, I was not too sure about it at first, but with repeated listens, especially with headphones, I really have come to like it! Listening to some of the Atmos versions now, they are ok but missing something for me.
